Chapter 97 - Chapter 97: A small town in danger

As the early morning mist enveloped the attacked town, Ebote, Saraswati and the members of the Hand of Brahma stepped into this silent land. There was a sense of anxiety in the air, and ruins were scattered on the streets, as if the entire town was silently telling the horror of that terrible attack.

"Everyone, proceed with caution," Abbott warned in a low voice, "We don't know if the enemy is still nearby."

Saraswati nodded in agreement, her eyes scanning the surroundings warily. "I feel a strange energy residue," she said with a frown, "It's probably left by that mysterious person."

The team moved cautiously toward the center of the town, recording traces of destruction along the way. The burn marks and strange energy residue left on the building made them more and more convinced that this attack was definitely not the work of ordinary people.

Arriving at the town square, everyone couldn't help but gasp. The central square that was supposed to be full of life is now in ruins. The fountain was blown to pieces, and surrounding shops and houses also suffered varying degrees of damage.

"Look there!" exclaimed a member of the Hand of Brahma, pointing to the ruins of the fountain.

Everyone took a closer look and found a strange symbol carved on the ground among the broken stones. It was a complex pattern they had never seen before, and it looked like some ancient magical mark.

Abbott knelt down and studied the symbol carefully. "This should be the mark left by the mysterious man," he mused, "but what does it mean?"

Saraswati also came closer, her brows furrowed. "This symbol... I seem to have seen something similar somewhere," she murmured, "but I can't remember it at the moment."

At this moment, a faint moan caught everyone's attention. The sound came from a nearby half-collapsed house. Ebote and Saraswati looked at each other and immediately ran in the direction of the sound.

They carefully removed some rubble and found an old man trapped in the rubble. The old man didn't appear to be seriously injured, but he was obviously frightened.

"It's okay, we're here to rescue you," Ebert comforted, while working with others to help the old man get out of trouble.

The old man trembled and said, "Thank you... that person... that terrible person..."

"Did you see the attacker?" Saraswati asked gently. "Can you tell us what happened?"

The old man took a deep breath and tried to calm down. "It was a man in a black cloak," he recalled. "He... he seemed to appear out of nowhere. And then the whole town was thrown into chaos. With a wave of his hand, the houses collapsed and the streets were torn apart. ...I have never seen such terrifying power."

Ebert and Saraswati exchanged solemn glances. This description is consistent with the mysterious man they encountered before.

"Did he say something? Or did he do anything special?" Ebert asked.

The old man frowned and thought for a while, and suddenly seemed to remember something important. "That's right!" he said excitedly, "Before leaving, the man drew a strange symbol near the fountain. And then...then he disappeared as mysteriously as he came."

This information made the team members more confident that the symbols they found were indeed related to the attackers.

"One more thing," the old man added, with a hint of fear in his voice, "after the man left, I heard strange noises coming from the ground. It was like... some kind of mechanism was activated."

Ebert and Saraswati looked at each other, and both saw surprise and curiosity in each other's eyes. "Is there anything underground?" Ebert asked.

The old man shook his head, "We always thought there was nothing underground in the town. But now... I'm not sure anymore."

After ensuring the safety of the old man, the team began to search the town for possible entrances to the underground. They carefully checked every suspicious place, hoping to find any clues.

Just when they were about to give up, Saraswati suddenly stopped. "Wait," she said, "do you feel it?"

Ebert concentrated his concentration and indeed felt a weak but unique energy fluctuation. "From the ground," he confirmed.

Following the guidance of the energy, they came to an abandoned warehouse on the edge of the town. The warehouse looked in disrepair but was not affected by the attack in the slightest.

"That's weird," one team member said, "Why is this the only place intact?"

Ebert carefully inspected the wall of the warehouse, and suddenly his fingers touched a hidden groove. "Found it!" he shouted excitedly.

Following Ebert's movements, the floor of the warehouse slowly moved away, revealing a downward staircase. Bursts of cold wind blew from the dark underground, carrying an ancient and mysterious atmosphere.

"It looks like we've found something amazing," Saraswati said, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

Abbott took a deep breath and turned to his companions. "Everyone, are you ready? We may be about to face something we have never seen before."

Everyone nodded in agreement with firm expressions on their faces. They know that this underground ruins may contain important clues about the mysterious attacker, and may even be related to the core power in Ebert's body.

"Then," Ebert said, lighting up a magic ball of light, "let's uncover the secrets of this town together."

Following the lead of Ebert, the team began to carefully descend down the stairs. Every step is full of unknown dangers, but also contains infinite possibilities. They all understand that this discovery may completely change their understanding of the world, and may also provide key information to fight against the mysterious enemy.

When the last person stepped into the underground passage, the entrance above ground quietly closed. The town fell into silence again, as if nothing had happened. However, beneath this calm surface, an adventure that could change the fate of the world is quietly unfolding.
