Chapter 40 - 40- Happy Ending

I was so happy with Dante's arrival. I'll tell you, dear reader, I didn't realize how much I needed him and his love. This week we spent apart felt like an eternity, I suffered greatly knowing about his accident, where the impact from the airbag was clearly visible and marked on his forehead.

You could see the bandage from a distance, and it was a bit purplish around the impact area. I was truly afraid of losing him and I came to the conclusion that it was better to be by his side, to live this love, and to stop avoiding the feelings he had shown so much since we reunited.

I confess I didn't know how to act because my desire was to touch him, sleep in his arms, and never let him go again. So, thinking about that, I decided to fight for our love and take the risk.

Leaving the airport, I plunged into thoughts because I couldn't leave things as they were. I had to set things right, I had nothing more to lose since I had been living alone for a long time... Now I didn't want to be alone anymore...

In fact, ever since I met Dante, this feeling of loneliness has been with me... Yes, I have friends, great friends who would do anything for me, I know that... But they had their own lives, and I couldn't be so selfish as to want to control them to revolve around me. That would be totally unfair to them...

Now I had to fix my life and fight for all the things I found important, for the love I let slip through my fingers and that perhaps, I wouldn't have another chance to experience.

The trip back was very calm, both of us remained quiet and enjoyed the silence provided by the moment. We arrived home and Dante went straight to take a shower, as fatigue was clearly visible on his face. I did the same, took less time because I wanted to prepare something to eat and also because I needed to take care of Freddy.

Freddy was quite mischievous and had already scratched the living room curtains. I found it very funny, even though Dante's curtains seemed expensive, but just seeing the joy of the little guy playing around warmed my heart.

I finished my shower, took care of Freddy, and went to the kitchen to prepare something quick for us to eat, and there was still no sign of Dante. I went to check if the shower was still on, and indeed it was.

When Dante finished, I had dinner ready and the table set for us to dine.

— Wow, you were quick! That smells delicious. - He said, appearing in the kitchen.

— I hope the taste is as good as the smell. - I laughed, winking at him.

We ate peacefully and enjoyed every moment together because, for the first time, it really felt like we were living together, and it was very enjoyable. I washed the dishes and he dried them, just like he did that day in my apartment, and I was glad he showed up that night... I could relive memories that had been asleep for a long time.

— Dante?

— Tell me.

— I really want to try...

— Tell me what you want to try, and I'll help you.

— I want to try dating you. I love you, in fact, I never stopped loving you.

Dante was at a loss for words for a few seconds... He seemed emotional by what I had just said.

— Are you sure, Kyra? - Dante asked, taking my hands.

— Yes, I am... I've never wanted something as much as loving you. - I got closer to him and kissed him.

Dante interrupted the kiss and picked me up as if we were newlyweds, carrying me to the bedroom.

— Kyra, there's something I want to tell you. - He said, placing me on the bed and going to get something from his bag.

— Alright.

He took something out of the bag that looked like a small black velvet box, approached me, knelt down, and opened the box, revealing a delicate and discreet diamond ring, nothing too flashy.

— I took a bit longer on the trip because I wanted to choose the perfect ring for you, knowing you don't like attention-grabbing things. Then I found it in a display window and I was sure you'd like it.

I was very surprised; I didn't imagine he had bought a ring for me and I was deeply moved by the scene in front of me. It felt like I was living a romantic story just like the ones in the movies I used to watch and thought didn't exist.

— Miss Kyra, will you marry me? - Dante asked, a smile on his face.

— Yes! - I said, teary-eyed.

Dante put the ring on my left finger. He stood up and kissed me! I can say that this night I spent with my love, and the next morning, I brought my things into Dante's room.

— Love, I want you to meet Freddy, the newest member of the family and destroyer of expensive curtains! - I said, laughing to Dante.

— Let's meet the little guy who's decorating my curtains.

The two of us went after Freddy and found him sleeping in our bed, looking like an angel, he was so cute. Dante saw him, picked him up, and petted him, and to my surprise, Freddy started purring for him. I was amazed, but even he noticed the good heart Dante had.

— He likes you! - I said.

— I'll let him sleep. - Dante put him back in the same spot so Freddy could go back to sleep.

— I want to show you the romance novel I want to publish. It's already finished, and I'd like to know your opinion.

— Oh, that's interesting. - Dante said, following me to the office.

I handed him the printed book.

— Give me a couple of days to read it, and I'll let you know if I like it or not, okay?

— Perfect!

*******************************************

Two days passed, and Dante informed me that he had finished reading it and had high expectations because he decided to publish it together with Trish.

I couldn't be happier... I had to make some changes, but they said it was exactly what the audience wanted to read, as it was captivating and charming... Everything seemed so unreal because I was engaged to the most handsome, lovely, and loving man I had ever seen. I adopted a kitten, and my novel was going to be published!

I'll leave you with a piece of advice, dear reader, don't act as I did in my past; instead, do as I am doing in my present! It's really worth fighting for everything you believe in, even if it hurts to hear a "No" or "That'll never work."

The one who will decide that is you, not the ones criticizing you, because life is yours! Even if things become difficult, or almost impossible to achieve, never give up on yourself, on your personality, and on what you believe will be best for you.

What we value in our lives is HAPPINESS, but the journey towards it isn't easy! Sometimes we just need to look at our families, coworkers who always help us, friends who are always there, that dream job, or even that special person who will make us happy, but whom we let go because of pride...

So don't let it slip away! Live life your way, with that warm feeling in your heart that will drive away all the sorrows, illnesses, and misfortunes in your life. Life is just a passage, and from here, we only take the good things we've done and the memories we leave behind.
