When Su Xiang returned to Huang Yeyan's tent it was to the strange sight of Wu Ling propped up in bed while the older alchemist sat at his bedside passing him small dishes or water as he slowly worked on eating breakfast. For a moment, Su Xiang wondered if the alchemist had decided to stand in as Wu Ling's mother now that he was injured but she quickly dismissed the notion as nonsense.
"You look better than you did last night," Su Xiang said, walking around to the opposite side of the bed Wu Ling lay on and looking into his silvery eyes. Relief washed over her when she saw how clear and pain-free his eyes were. There were occasional winces as he moved but nothing that looked like suffering. "Next time, let me take the big one."
