He leaned back in his chair, steepling his fingers as he gazed at her with an intensity that made her so nervous. His eyes narrowed, scrutinizing her every move, every twitch of her lips. The dim lighting in the office cast shadows on his face, making his expression seem even more enigmatic.
"How did you do it?" he asked finally, his voice low and measured, like a slow-burning fire. "You've only been investigating for less than an 4hrs and yet...you seem to know who's responsible."
He paused, his eyes boring into hers, as if daring her to reveal her secrets. His impatience was palpable, a living thing that crackled in the air like electricity.
"Tell me," he pressed, his voice a little sharper now, a little more demanding. "Who is it? Who stole the files?"
His gaze never wavered, his attention fixed on her with an unnerving intensity. She felt like a specimen under a microscope, her every move magnified and examined. The silence stretched out between them, heavy with anticipation, as he waited for her to reveal the truth.
"Actually sir… remembering the details of what happened earlier this morning, I think I have a suspect…" Andrea said to him trying to keep her eyes fixed on him
"What happened this morning, miss smith" He said narrowing down his eyes.
She went on to tell him how she met Prisca earlier this morning and the state she was in, the files she saw but didn't see it as something serious.
"Really miss Smith, and you didn't bother to ask her why she was in a hurry?. He asked her not because he was disappointed in her but because he was amazed that she was able to narrow down the suspect list.
"I didn't see it as something really important and I just started working here to be acting all bossy and all, please understand me sir"
He looked at her with a smirk and seeing how desperate she was to save her job, he asked her to leave and that he will look into the matter.
"Your suspicions better be correct else you know what's at stake" he said with a cold icy voice and the dark aura that seemed to slowly dissipate came back without warning.
Her boss's voice, low and measured, sent shivers down her spine as he spoke. Each word dripped with an icy disdain, making her feel like an insect pinned under a microscope. His gaze never wavered, its intensity making her hair stand on end as if electrified.
A cold chill ran down her spine, leaving a trail of goosebumps in its wake. Her heart raced, pounding in her chest like a drum, as she struggled to maintain her composure. The darkness in his eyes seemed to draw her in, a void of malevolence that threatened to consume her whole. She prayed in her hear that her suspicions were correct else who knows what this man will do to her.
Shortly after Andrea left, Theo came in to see Liam about the missing file.
"From what you told me, I ran a background search on this Prisca girl and guess what…" Theo said as he sat down directly opposite Liam. "She is the youngest of the Johnson family but married into Blackwood family and she's been working with us for about 3yrs now" he continued.
With a puzzled face as if trying to process the whole thing he asked "3 years??? How come we never noticed?? And how employed her??" He asked in frustration
"Well, according to her records from the her seniors she's a very hardworking cheerful person.
"Well, I can see how cheerful she is" Liam said sarcastically with a scoff. "Make sure no one else knows about the file just the three of us and send this prisca girl to my office find a lie or something but make sure she doesn't know I know the file is missing while she's here I want you to thoroughly search her office." He continued
"Yh that's the problem, she's not in the office"
"What do you mean she's not in the office" Liam was very frustrated that a girl could actually steal from him. "Well she's not a very smart Thief I guess"
"Or maybe she is" Theo said wondering why he would underestimate her. "She knows how smart you are and how dangerous you can be, so why on earth will be at the office and this might probably be her last day at the office also." Theo continued
A deafening silence filled the room, punctuated only by the soft hum of the sir conditional. Theo knew what was going to happen next, he felt a little pity for the girl since no one can save her now from the demon she woke from slumber.
"Do you know she actually posed as a friend to my pa??" Liam said breaking the silence with a smile that didn't reach his eyes.
"Liam… are you sure you're okay right now?? You know how important that file is and how long we've been trying to pin them down with no escape and now the file is missing all you could think about is your PA being befriended by that little deviant" Theo said trying to wrap his head around the whole thing
"Look at the bright side my friend, sending Andrea to get the file back isn't a bad idea now, is it" Liam have off a devilish smile then and there Theo knew that Andrea was down for.
