When Arthur saw the luxurious mansion where the target lived, he knew he had definitely been deceived.
Who was it that said something like that?
Right, the more beautiful the woman, the more likely she is to deceive people!
Now, it seemed that even though Agent Carter's face looked a bit honest, she still could deceive people without batting an eye.
"So, this is your idea of… an ordinary businessman?" Arthur pointed to the mansion not far away, guarded by armed men on both sides of the entrance.
And in the yard, there were wolves-like dogs being led around by people, walking around indifferently. Arthur questioned Peggy with an expression of indifference.
Agent Carter nodded seriously.
"Goodbye!"
Arthur turned around to leave.
"Wait." Agent Carter hastily grabbed him.
Arthur waved his hand dismissively. "Farewell!"
He didn't grow up to be fooled by others and then come to risk his life for someone else.
Whoever loved to do this kind of thing could go ahead, but he wasn't willing.
"Arthur… please!"
Agent Carter pleaded, "I really have no other choice, so I can only ask you for help…"
"You asking me for help won't change anything," Arthur said helplessly. "I'm not a Super Soldier. Go find Colonel Phillips… mobilize forces to besiege. Even if the other party dies, it doesn't matter. It's just one less nail for us, why take the risk of going in to capture someone?"
"If Colonel Phillips had agreed, I would have done that long ago."
Agent Carter, in her helplessness, could only tell the truth.
Arthur widened his eyes. "So, you want to tell me that this time, we came here without any military support? It's the two of us… acting on our own?"
Did this woman think she hadn't caused enough trouble for herself?
She barely escaped danger, and now she willingly came to it?
Peggy bit her lip and said, "Arthur… I'm sorry for not telling you the truth."
"We can go back and talk slowly," Arthur suggested.
"No." Peggy shook her head and said, "The situation is like this. This person is named Lindsay Clive. He's not just an ordinary businessman; this year, he will be running for Congress."
"What?"
Arthur was dumbfounded.
"Exactly because of the uniqueness of this person's identity, after obtaining his name, Colonel Phillips was very hesitant. Because the capture of the first two spies did not go smoothly, the Colonel is worried. Without any evidence, capturing this person could lead to his death. If that happens, it will have a negative impact on our military. They don't want to see any negative news about this… So…"
"So, you took action privately?" Arthur's eyeballs were almost falling onto his face. What kind of courage did this woman have? Did she have balls? Was it made of iron?
"I had no choice! Even though we know the other party is here, although there is no clear evidence, various sources have already proven that this person is highly likely to be the Hydra spy. It's precisely because of the issue of the other party's identity that we can't carry out a capture operation. You know, once the other party is successfully elected as a Congressman, what terrifying consequences will it have for us? His popularity… is high!"
Peggy was serious. The expression on her face showed a selfless spirit, everything was for… world peace?
After this thought suddenly popped into Arthur's mind, there was a tremendous sense of absurdity descending from the sky.
He took a deep breath and said, "Have you ever thought of anything that Colonel Phillips might have overlooked with his cunning nature?"
"Hmm?" Agent Carter was confused. "What do you mean?"
"My point is simple…" Arthur said, "Spies are terrifying, right? But their real terror isn't because of how skilled they are, but because they always lurk in the shadows! Once we know their identity, they cease to be frightening. In fact, we can even use them as tools and pawns!"
Agent Carter stared at him with widening eyes. "I'm starting to understand what you mean…"
"If you still don't understand then I really wouldn't know how you became a 'Special Agent,'" Arthur gritted his teeth as he spoke. "So, what we're doing here today is likely unnecessary. In other words, even if that person becomes a Congressman, what kind of information he holds and how much of it is conveyed will be entirely in our hands. We can even use this person to feed Hydra false information, information that could easily destroy one of their armies, and that's just a small part of it! In fact, making good use of this spy is much more effective than capturing him!"
Peggy covered her mouth. "I didn't think about all this…"
"Your body acts faster than your brain. This kind of thing is unacceptable, especially for…"
Arthur's words stopped abruptly, and he suddenly changed his expression, pressing down on Peggy's shoulder and crouching down.
Peggy's gaze followed Arthur's and fell onto his crotch. In her hurry and confusion, she didn't understand what this guy meant by suddenly getting aggressive. Her face turned red, and just as she was about to ask, Arthur crouched down as well.
"Huh? Why are you blushing?"
Arthur was a bit puzzled as he whispered to Peggy.
"What's wrong with you?" Peggy was a bit annoyed.
Arthur quickly made a gesture to silence her. "Someone's coming."
Following Arthur's gaze, Peggy's face changed. "Why are the patrol points so far away?"
"This indicates that the owner of this mansion indeed has something to hide," Arthur said. "We can't alert them. Although what I said earlier was just my speculation, it's highly probable. If we rashly alert this guy that we've noticed him, the situation will slip out of our control! Now, we withdraw…"
"We can't!"
Peggy bit her lip and said, "There's a dog!"
Indeed, there was a dog!
The patrolling guards were accompanied by dogs, and the dogs had already caught the scent of strangers. With its crimson eyes, it stared directly at Arthur and Peggy. Suddenly, it charged forward, its four slender legs moving rapidly, almost reaching Arthur and Peggy in an instant.
"Fuck!"
Arthur's face turned dark. It was too late to say anything. Just as Arthur uttered those words, the dog was already in front of him.
With saliva-dripping fangs and a gaping mouth, the dog lunged towards Arthur's arm!
With no time for more words. Arthur acted swiftly. With a punch from above, he struck the dog's head. A loud thud echoed, and the dog was suddenly attacked, emitting a whimpering sound of pain, changing direction, and falling to the ground.
Its four legs wobbled on the ground, eyes rolling with a dazed expression. Unable to endure, it collapsed to the ground and fainted.
