Chapter 147 - 147. Trapped.

Buzz!

The emblem on Vesemir's chest began to vibrate violently as well.

Allen instinctively channeled the magic within him, extending his right hand and tracing a triangle in the air.

Quen Sign!

A faint golden light flickered and clung to his polished leather armor.

"Hmm?"

"What's happening? What's happening?"

At this moment, only the middle-aged knight had drawn his sword, while the other two younger knights were panicking and shouting loudly.

"Be careful, there's a monster approaching!"

Seeing the golden glow of Quen on Allen, Vesemir let out a sigh of relief and quickly shouted to the three knights.

Clang!

Allen raised his right hand, and in a flash, drew his silver sword, Elsa, from over his left shoulder. The blade carved a cold, gleaming arc in the air as he charged towards the young knight named Bowen.

"These monsters really do have bad intentions!"

"This Witcher's shout about monsters is just to distract them!"

Bowen cursed inwardly as he hurriedly drew his knight's sword. But it was already too late; the silver sword, Elsa, was already slicing upwards from below. The razor-sharp blade, gleaming like a mirror, instantly reflected his ugly, terrified face. At that moment, a thought suddenly popped into Bowen's mind.

"I still need to inherit the title of Viscount; how could I die at the hands of a Witcher apprentice?"

Clang!

In the next instant, the silver blade clashed with a strange short-handled scythe right in front of Bowen, producing a loud metallic clang.

A scythe?

How could there be a scythe here?

The young knight, who had just narrowly escaped death, was momentarily dazed.

"Bowen, do you want to die? Draw your sword now!" The middle-aged knight's angry roar snapped him back to reality.

Bowen instinctively drew his sword and turned around.

In front of him was a monster, holding a lantern burning with pale flames in one hand and wielding a sword, axe, and scythe in the other. It was draped in a dark yellow hood, floating in the air like a ghost.

The young man he thought was just an ordinary Witcher apprentice was now entangled with a cloaked monster. But this eerie monster couldn't do anything to the apprentice.

"Allen, be careful, it's a Wraith... Damn it, how is a Wraith appearing in broad daylight?" Vesemir's loud shout finally reached them.

"Don't worry, Master Vesemir," Allen shouted back.

At this point, he had no time to consider the complex thoughts of the young knight.

In a narrow passageway about thirty or forty meters wide, six Wraiths had suddenly appeared. Vesemir was dealing with three of them, Allen with one, and the three knights with the remaining two.

Whoosh~

A green light flashed. The two Wraiths in front of Allen suddenly disappeared.

Not good! It's the Wraith's teleportation... Encountering this strange skill in reality for the first time, he was horrified. The next moment, the sound of wind suddenly came from behind him. Without thinking, Allen rolled forward, narrowly avoiding the short-handled scythe slashing down at him. Then, taking advantage of the gap in the Wraith's attack, he once again channeled his magic.

While staying vigilant for another attack, he systematically channeled his magic into the ground.

Yrden Sign.

In the blink of an eye.

A mystical glyph emitting a faint purple light appeared on the grassy ground.

In the game, Wraiths, which could turn incorporeal and teleport, had a weakness: the Yrden magic trap.

Sure enough, Even a level 1 Yrden Sign slowed down the Wraith's movement by at least a third.

Allen seized the opportunity, lunging at the creature now constrained by the glyph, spinning and leaping like a top.

The sounds of clashing blades and whistling swords enveloped the Wraith.

Ah~

A hoarse wail, as if coming from a throat with a gaping hole, echoed from the Wraith's mouth. But this couldn't change its fate.

Sizzle~ Sizzle~ Sizzle~

In the blink of an eye, Allen slashed the Wraith three times. Each time Elsa's silver blade made contact with the creature, a sizzling sound like molten metal on snow erupted.

At the same time, a stench of scorched flesh filled the air. This was the violent reaction caused by pure silver touching ghostly creatures. Soon, the Wraith's body dimmed considerably.

Allen was about to strike again to finish off the Wraith and then assist Vesemir, who was battling three of them. But at that moment.

"Ahh!"

"Fargo!"

A human's pained scream and the middle-aged knight's frantic shout reached Allen's ears. He glanced to the side. Three steps away, the young knight named Fargo had a deep gash on his back, about half a finger wide, cut by a Wraith wielding a longsword. He screamed as he fell to the ground.

If not for the standard issue leather armor of the King's Guard, he would be dead by now. But Fargo's situation wasn't looking good. The middle-aged knight and Bowen were struggling to deal with the teleporting creatures and didn't dare turn their backs. They had been caught off guard by the Wraith's abilities, allowing it to exploit an opening.

Vesemir had drawn three Wraiths into a corner. Though he used his far superior Yrden Sign to firmly control the three creatures, cutting down their health bars one sword strike at a time, he couldn't possibly come to the rescue in time. So, the only one in the castle who could save the young knight was Allen.

But… should he save him?

Thud~ Thud~

Taking three quick strides, Allen lunged at the young knight Fargo, shoving him out of the way of the Wraith's swinging longsword. These knights could die, but not in front of Vesemir and Allen.

Otherwise, Even if the consequences were the fault of the three knights, Allen and Vesemir would still face great trouble.

At the very least, they wouldn't be able to complete the red-haired elf's mission or fulfill the human couple's request. So, Allen had to save him.

"Hmph~"

A groan of pain. Fargo was pushed out of the battle.

With the wounded out of the way, the two knights breathed a sigh of relief, focusing on fending off the Wraith's attacks. For a trained kingdom elite, dealing with a single Wraith wasn't particularly difficult, even with its strange teleportation skill. For a moment, the other two battlefronts reached a sort of equilibrium. But now, Allen was in big trouble!

Rolling to dodge the flashing silver light of the Wraith's sword, Allen noticed another green flash in the corner of his vision and had to roll again to avoid the slashing short-handled scythe. Rising to his feet and seeing the two Wraiths in front of him, he quickly retreated two steps. But in the next second, the sword-wielding Wraith disappeared again, forcing Allen to roll sideways once more.

The continuous attacks from the two Wraiths disrupted Allen's rhythm completely, leaving him no time to crouch and use the Yrden Sign.

Rolling, sidestepping, charging forward, retreating.

The grass underfoot was trampled, blades sliced through it, and it was crushed, oozing juice.

Now, Allen was limited to dodging!

Still not familiar with the Wraith's attack patterns; if these were drowners, even with three times as many, he could have handled them easily. Allen cursed inwardly.

The high-frequency combat was already wearing him out.

"This won't do, I must find an opening to deal with at least one of these Wraiths!"
