In the end, the head of the Wolf School nodded and agreed to the request. Seeing that the sun was already setting, Sol suggested they return. With a snap of her fingers, an orange portal appeared. Upon seeing the portal, Vesemir's face turned pale, and he said, "I'll walk back, no need to trouble Lady Vera."
"I'll go too," Allen said, attempting to follow.
"Allen, stay. I have something to tell you," Vera softly broke Allen's hopes. Sol glanced at Vera and then sympathetically nodded at Allen before following Vesemir out.
Back in the alchemy room, after Allen drank the green potion Vera handed him, he saw Mary looking eagerly at the sorceress. Vera, thinking of the scene upon returning from Sol's place, said, "Mary, you've worked hard this time."
"It's nothing, Lady Vera," the girl responded, beaming with pride. Allen could almost see an imaginary tail wagging behind her. Vera nodded at Mary, then glanced at Allen. After a moment of hesitation, Mary promptly laid down on the alchemy table, leaving both Vera and Allen stunned.
"Wow, she's got experience passing out," Allen thought humorously. Finally, Vera snapped her fingers, putting Mary into a peaceful sleep.
"Allen, I'll be leaving soon," Vera said. Allen nodded, unsure why she was telling him this. Vera sighed inwardly and handed Allen a worn-out experimental record with a wrinkled leather cover and yellowed pages.
"Check if there's anything you need to modify and tell me," Vera instructed. Puzzled, Allen opened the record, finding it mostly about the Witcher's Eye. Looking closer, he realized the subject described was remarkably similar to him. Before Allen could ask, Vera continued, "Yes, it's as you imagine. The Witcher's Eye was Sol's creation."
"To protect my identity as the Child of Miracle?" Allen asked.
"Partly," Vera replied.
"And the other part?" Allen pressed.
Vera shifted the topic, "Let's finish it here. Once you're done, I'll be leaving." Reluctantly, Allen focused on modifying the record. It was no easy task, balancing what needed to be revealed and what could remain hidden.
An hour later, Allen handed over the modifications. Vera took the paper, nodded, and said, "Alright, you can leave."
As Allen reached the door, he heard Vera's voice again. "Even if you don't want to continue learning alchemy, you can still come here to make potions. The materials are plentiful. I'll remind Mary once she wakes."
"Thank you, Lady Vera. I don't know how to..." Allen began.
"No need. Just remember your promise," Vera interrupted. "Don't let my investment go to waste."
--------------
Leaving the tower, Allen didn't head back to the dormitory immediately despite the late hour. Today was the last day for the 'main course.' Allen decided to use the Drowner King's Heart Essence before returning.
Finding a secluded corner, he initiated the process. As he clicked the option, a torrent of icy energy surged down his throat into his stomach. Prepared for the worst, Allen was surprised by the milder impact compared to yesterday.
The torrent subsided, and Allen checked his status. His health was hardly affected. "Is it because of my water affinity?" he wondered. He used the last Drowner King's Heart Essence, noting an even milder reaction. The chaotic magic from his water affinity seemed to protect his organs. "Even a low affinity is useful," Allen thought, satisfied.
[Name: Allen]
[Level: 11]
[Health: 100%, Stamina: 240/240, Mana: 230/230]
[Attributes: Strength 16 (+4), Agility 15 (+4), Constitution 24 (+6), Perception 17 (+2), Mystery 23 (+10)]
[Affinity: Water 3]
The level up from this morning's Heliotrop Sign added 26 attribute points, rejuvenating Allen. The boosts in Constitution and Mystery were especially welcome, impacting his most powerful skill, Witcher Sense, and his valuable life-saving item, the Mirage Pearl.
This significant enhancement made Allen feel capable of single-handedly taking on the Drowner King. "Calm down! Calm down!" he reminded himself, recalling Vesemir's struggle against the Drowner King. The inflated sense of power quickly dissipated.
Reviewing the system's messages, Allen remembered a main quest reward he hadn't checked due to the excitement of opening chests. "Let's see," he thought, summoning the quest log in his mind.
[Main Quest Completed: Stranger from Another World (Defeat the Drowner King 1/1)]
[Reward: Conjunction of the Spheres]
"Conjunction of the Spheres?" Allen pondered.
