Chapter 42 - 42. Affinity.

[Name: Allen]

[Level: 10]

[Health: 73%, Stamina: 190/190, Mana: 137/137]

[Attributes: Strength 12 (+2), Agility 11 (+2), Constitution 18 (+3), Perception 15 (+1), Mystery 13 (+5)]

[Affinity: Water 1]

A 13-point attribute boost—no wonder it's the Drowner King.

Once all attributes reach ten points, the decimal values disappear. However, when focusing on specific attributes, more detailed values can still be seen. Allen smacked his lips, satisfied, and took a longer look at the significant increase in Mystery.

"This means the development of my Mirage Pearl can move to the next stage, and the level of my signs can continue to improve."

The attribute boost alone justified spending all his special skill points on *Monster Hunting* earlier in the afternoon. But what intrigued Allen even more was the newly appeared "Affinity."

"Does affinity refer to elemental affinity?" Allen wondered.

Yet, he wasn't a sorcerer, and there were only a few signs. What use was water elemental affinity to him?

With questions in mind, Allen carefully felt the power surging within him as the freezing numbness dissipated from his body. The swelling of muscles, the rush of blood, Apart from feeling much stronger in terms of power and magic, there didn't seem to be any other changes. No, there was something different.

The Witcher apprentice suddenly noticed a faint coolness he could perceive in the fibers of his muscles. After carefully sensing it a few more times, he confirmed it wasn't his imagination.

"It seems... it seems a bit like the aura around the Drowner King's body..."

Allen hesitated for a moment before activating his skill.

[Monster Hunting]

In the monster hunting state, Allen's mental power fully immersed into his muscles.

"No mistake!"

"This is definitely the blessing of chaotic magic!"

But isn't this biological field something only those monsters can naturally possess?

Once again, sensing the elements of wandering water that seemed to be scattered throughout every muscle, a strange thought suddenly popped into Allen's head: Does this mean that if someone wants to kill me in the future, they will need to use a silver sword too?

On the top floor of the main keep. This was the reception hall of the head of the Wolf School. The head of the school rubbed his chin, walked two laps around the small mound of flesh at the center, and then asked: "Vesemir, you mean this large monster appeared suddenly?"

Vesemir nodded and said, "It was a dead end with only one exit."

"Moreover, I was blocking the entrance at the time, fending off the horde of drowners like a tide. There was no way any creature could pass by me unnoticed, especially one of such size."

"Hmm?"

"What about the drowner horde?"

Sol stopped in his tracks, puzzled. Vesemir had just arrived and only mentioned the unfamiliar monster to him. A tidal wave of drowners?

The last time a horde of drowners attacked a village was centuries ago. Now, though drowners were rampant, their numbers weren't enough to form a horde, right?

Vesemir paused, considering the head's relationship with the sorceress, before taking out the Drowner Whistle.

"No wonder it's one of Vera's creations. With just a slight noise, it alarmed all the drowners in Killer Lake."

The head, confused, took the pale bone artifact. His Witcher senses told him it wasn't a magical artifact. However, trusting Vesemir, he hesitated for a moment before taking out the medallion from his chest. Sol's medallion was different from Vesemir's. Covered in the marks of time, the round medallion depicted a heavily scarred knight returning home.

"Knight Triumphant under the Iris Flower"

That's the medallion's name, handcrafted and engraved by the Witcher Order's creator, Cosimo Malaspina.

As the medallion and the drowner whistle got closer, even when pressed together, the knight remained unmoved.

"No wonder Vera's craftsmanship is so superb. Even your medallion can't detect any magical fluctuations," Vesemir praised.

The head gave Vesemir a helpless look. He knew Vera's level. Though she had reached Cosimo's level in power, her alchemy skills were still somewhat lacking. And his order's medallion had never failed to detect magical fluctuations. It was highly likely this whistle wasn't a magical item at all. However, the head did not argue with Vesemir.

After thinking for a moment, he said, "Are you planning to return this whistle to Allen tomorrow?"

Vesemir nodded, shifting his gaze from the head's medallion, and said, "I'll give it to him in the afternoon."

"Vesser, I'll send it tomorrow..."

"Bang—"

Before the head could finish his sentence, a portal opened in front of the two of them.

"Sol!"

"Before you left, what did you promise me..."

The voice came before the person. However, as the sorceress Vera walked out of the orange-yellow portal with a forceful demeanor and saw someone else in the head's quarters, she quickly swallowed her words. Then, pretending nothing was amiss, she glanced at Vesemir.

Vesemir tactfully excused himself.

"Bang"

The heavy wooden door closed.

"Vera, have you found any clues?"

The head saw the sorceress's displeasure and asked first.

Vera ignored the head's thoughts and urgently asked: "Where's Allen?"

"Is he okay?"

"Vera, Allen is fine," Sol immediately replied, then asked curiously, "How did you know something happened to Allen?"

The sorceress didn't answer and instead continued to ask, "Was he hurt?"

"No, he's fine, don't worry."

"Allen just attended the bonfire feast in the castle hall. He should be in the apprentice dormitory now."

The head of the Wolf School wanted to pat Vera on the back to calm her down. But the sorceress dodged aside. Sol withdrew his hand helplessly and began recounting what he had learned from Vesemir.

At this moment, the sorceress noticed the mound of flesh behind him.

"Have you seen this kind of monster before?" Sol asked as he saw Vera focusing on the monster's corpse, quietly sighing in relief. He had no idea Allen could have encountered problems while hunting drowners with Vesemir, especially since they were right in Kaer Morhen. The most dangerous monster nearby was Old Speartip, a cyclops. But that one only came out to hunt drowners when hungry, otherwise staying in its lair.

Vera approached the Drowner King's corpse, feeling the faint remnants of its magical field, and said: "I've never seen such a creature."

"The magical components feel very similar to a drowner."

The sorceress circled the Drowner King once more and continued: "A few characteristics also resemble drowners."

"You said this creature appeared suddenly."

Vera stopped, sighed, and said: "It's clear it came through a conjunction of the spheres."

The head of the Wolf School nodded and said: "I thought so too, and additionally..."

He took out the Drowner Whistle and handed it to Vera, saying: "Vera, did you make this?"
