Claire and Joshua sat across from each other in the living room, the silence between them thick and heavy. Their earlier exchange had only added fuel to the fire of their growing resentment.
Joshua finally broke the silence, his voice hard and edged with frustration. "You know, Claire, I don't understand why you always have to make everything about you. Mia was hurt, and all you can think about is how it affects you."
Claire's eyes flashed with anger. "That's not fair, Joshua. I'm tired of being second place in my own marriage. Every time Mia needs something, you drop everything and run to her. Do you even see how that makes me feel?"
Joshua shook his head, his expression stony. "Maybe if you stopped acting like a victim and actually tried to be supportive, things would be different."
