As Thanatos and Cade downed their drinks, Cade leaned forward, his face growing solemn as he fixed Thanatos, or Ash, with a knowing look.
"Listen, Ash," he began, his voice low, "I know it might seem like I'm trying to discourage you from being an adventurer, but I'm only trying to save you from the harsh reality of this life."
He paused, downing the last of his drink before refilling both of their cups with the amber-colored ale.
"It might seem like a glamorous life," Cade continued, his gaze fixed on his drink, "but the truth is, it's full of danger, heartache, and blood."
He sighed, rubbing a scar on his cheek as if remembering a particularly bad encounter.
"There have been times when I've woken up in the middle of the night, drenched in sweat, reliving the faces of the comrades I've lost." He looked up, meeting Thanatos's eyes.
