From a young age, Kartikeya was trained in the art of war by the celestial sage, Vishwamitra. He learned to master various weapons, strategies, and combat techniques. His six faces allowed him to observe and absorb knowledge rapidly, making him an exceptional student.

Indra, the king of gods, bestowed upon Kartikeya his mighty weapon, the Vel (spear), which became Kartikeya's primary weapon. Kartikeya's prowess in battle grew, and his courage and leadership were evident to all the gods.
