Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

'We absolutely have no idea what's to come tomorrow. It could be a good and nice day or a bad and worst day. That's is why, it's good to focus in the present to avoid ourselves feel disappointed—'

"We're here." the three woman in their early twenties look out the window to see the medium cozy cabin.

Their eyes sparkled in excitement as they set foot on their hometown in front of their new home.

"Wow, didn't know this fine looking house belongs to your family." Akyra commented, before she walks to the back to open the car trunk and gets their baggages.

The drive from the city back to their hometown was tiring but after breathing the province fresh air it seems like their energy are in full charged.

It feels so good to be back and live their life in more peaceful and fresh environment.

"This house belongs to my grandma and after my grandpa died, she moved in across from our house. Auntie Claudine's the one keeping this property clean." Ysabella informed and she rummaged her bag to find the bundle of keys to open their new home.

"Kyra?" Leslie called which Akyra answered with a hum, "Isn't this the place where you used to steal oranges and give it to us every lunch?" Leslie turned to Akyra who's picking up Ysa's luggage to put it on the porch.

As she put the luggage and Ysabella got interested to what Leslie said, they both looked to the side where a row of orange tree is planted.

Akyra's face creased as she attempts to recall that memory.

"Oh right! and Ysa said it taste like the oranges from her grandma!" Akyra beamed, laughing as she remembered their conversation 8 years ago.

"You stole it here? So you're the 'naughty kids' my grandma always complained about." she narrowed her eyes before entering the keys to open the door to their new home.

"Home sweet home." she muttered as memories of the past makes her feel the nostalgia.

She used to run to the stairs and always got scolded by her dad, playing dolls on the old leather couch, and dragging the chair to reach the cabinet above and stole some snacks.

The thoughts of her dead grandfather almost make her tear up if Akyra didn't shove her aside to place the heavy luggage on the couch.

"I have a plan." Akyra grinned, an excited look on her face intrigued the two ladies. "Let's get ready for picnic!" she clapped.

"Where?" Leslie takes off her shoes aside and wear the slippers for inside.

"Girl, have you ever seen someone does picnic inside the house? Of course, outside!" Akyra rolled her eyes which annoyed Leslie, "I was genuinely asking!"

Akyrw shrugged, "And I'm answering you 'genuinely'" going to the kitchen to search food for the 'planned' picnic.

"You're a very rude person." Leslie comments, following the ravenette to the kitchen.

"Thank you for the compliment." Akyra smiled briefly before going back to rummage the cabinets.

"You're welcome." Leslie then pick a glass, opened the refrigerator to pour cold water from the pitcher to the glass. "I'm dehyrated."

"I'll go upstairs to pick some blanket then!" Ysa announced, stepping on the first stair to see if they're gonna join her upstairs.

Almost immediately, the cabinet were left unattended and the fridge were closed as the two laughed and shouted, "Me too!" in sync.

There were five rooms around the stairs. Three bedrooms, an office room and a restroom.

Behind the stairs, there is a small balcony.

They took their time to pick their own rooms.

Ysabella and Akyra's rooms on left side and Leslie in the middle, next to the restroom. Just after picking some blanket, someone called them from outside.

It was Mr. Joseph, the fine and attractive man in his 50's. It's a lie to say Ysabella and Akyra didn't used to have crush on this man. They looked at each other and pinch each other secretly.

"Hi, Mr. Joseph!" they greeted. Akyra wants to throw compliment to the man but stops herself to save her reputation. She didn't want to be weird— "Wow! You're aging like a fine wine, Mr. Joseph. Do you have a wife now?" She could see Leslie cover her face with her palm in embarrassment.

Joseph elicits a deep chuckle, amuse by the young lady's words, "Still lively since the last time I saw you, Kyra."

"What brings you here, Mr. Joseph?" Ysabella spoke, a blanket still on her arms. "Right! We're going to have a welcome party for the three of you and for my nieces tomorrow night at the Center Round." It's very normal for the small town to celebrate the arrival of someone as everyone are close and knew every neighbors. It's like welcoming a family.

"Aw really?"

"Why, though?"

"Why not?"

"Yes. Why not? The three infamous troublemaker is back in this small town."Mr. Joseph commented, smiling at the three girls. They were so young when they leave the small town and now that they are back and become grown ups, Joseph's proud of them like he had raised them himself. He, everyone, could see how close the three of them are.

After dropping the spoken invitation, they continued their picnic plan. Leslie look around the property to pick the perfect location. In the right, under the large tree just 30-meters away from them seems perfect for the picnic.

As usual, Akyra's carrying the heavy things like the two baskets with lunch boxes full of foods, pitcher and cups for drinks, and a tote bag with books for them to read. Ysabella with the blanket and small bag with girl things. Leslie with the yellow umbrella for the scorching sun.

"Could you two be a good girls and take this basket and the tote bag from me? My vision's tripling—" She aggressively blinked and shakes her head to subside the dizziness she felt. Akyra, growing up as a healthy child, wants to experience the feeling of passing out or bleeding nose. Ysabella and Leslie, being the child with health conditions and has experienced multiple times of passing out and havingtheir nose bleed, wondered why.

"I think I'm gonna pass out now." Akyra informed.

"Oh, isn't that a good thing? Wow, dream come true." Leslie sarcastically replied, smiling to Akyra through her shoulder. No matter what happened, she'll never pass out or whatever.

"Wow, it's perfect! Can't wait to have our second picnic here." Ysabella excitedly unfold the blanket, her comment earned weird looks from both of her friends.

"I see you worry a lot in your life." Akyra joked, taking a deep breath as she puts the baskets on the ground.

Leslie checked the ground for unwanted stones because the last thing they want is to get hurt. Ysabella then put the blanket over the ground and lastly, Akyra arrange, well, tossed the lunch boxes on the blanket which got scolded and slapped by Ysabella. She winces and rubs her shoulder, it kinda hurt because Ysabella has heavy hands but she laughed it off.

Leslie and Ysa sets the foods, drinks, and books, while Kyra made herself comfortable laying on the blanket with her arms and legs spread like a starfish. Leslie urged her to help them but she just hummed, ignoring them. They argue for a moment about Kyra being lazy, then back to Ysa and Leslie not helping her with the heavy things. Akyra changed the subjects to the 'tea' she heard when her mom talked to her. When they felt the grumble in their stomach, they all decided to feast on their delicious lunch.

As they finished their lunch, they took a deep breath and look around their new surrounding. They talked about missing the city but happy to go back in their hometown.

"I miss the province air. It's way more, y'know, breathable than the city." Akyra said, the two nodded in agreement. "I'll miss the nights we spend in twenty-four-twelve drinking till we pass out." she added, earning a chuckle from her two friends.

"Hey, you make it sound like we're alcoholic." Leslie snickered as she reach for the sunglass and lays down. Ysa says, "You drink without moderation, you no-self-restraint."

"Yeah, I admit I'm an alcoholic and I'm not ashamed. Just a little."

"What a bad influence." Ysa shakes her head with a light smile.

Unbeknowst to them, a light glow appear behind them but it disappeared in seconds.

In the middle of their conversation, Ysabella's eyes rolled and falls backward with a thud, unconscious. Akyra, who were facing front turn to the side as she saw Ysa falling in her peripheral view. She laughed for a moment then stopped when she got suspicious by how fast Ysa fell asleep.

Her eyebrows creased in confusion, her heart beats doubling as she remembered Ysa is prone to passing out. But it's weird because the temperature is not even that low or high nor she's overfatigue or what. She tried to wake her up by shaking her shoulders, turning to Leslie for help but she's also passed out.

Her hands began trembling as she shakes the two of her friends. "I'll cut all your nails tight if you don't wake up right now." she threatened, knowing they won't like that, hoping they would buy her threat. After minutes of waking them up she decided to call someone for help while doing first aid, something she learned from her father.

Suddenly, as she move to face Ysabella, she felt her whole body began to lose energy and strength like something was sucking it. She tried to shake her head to focus but it's futile as she's getting more and more dizzier. From afar, Akyra passed out. Dream come true.
