Chapter 50 - Chapter 50: Gambler's choice

"Dear Vice President, care to take a guess?" Luna Hu played with the ponytail hanging over her chest, her eyes glinting with provocation. "Which side do you think it will be?"

"Miss Witch, your word traps are as skillful as ever," Leon Chen replied with a smile. "I guess it's heads..." He paused briefly before concluding, "Either side will do!"

The witch smiled without a word.

The other members were momentarily puzzled. Sandra Yue asked, "Vice President, why?"

"This is actually a common psychological trap," Leon explained. "Typically, when you ask a gambler to guess the outcome of a coin toss, if it has landed heads ten times in a row, most gamblers would think it's impossible for it to be heads eleven times in a row, so they'd guess tails."

Sandra nodded in understanding.

"And dear witch, you've used a language trap to make me choose a side, implying I can only choose heads or tails. But in reality, it doesn't matter. Whether it's ten heads in a row or a hundred, the probability of heads or tails is still 50% each time... so either side works." Leon looked at Luna with a smile. "This test isn't about the choice itself, but the reasoning behind the choice, right?"

"Mmhmm, our dear Vice President hasn't lost his touch after his hospital stay," Luna replied with a wicked smile, clearly satisfied.

Sandra sighed, "The Vice President is amazing. He saw through the President's trap immediately. Back then, everyone but William got it wrong."

Leon wasn't surprised. William Jiang, being a psychology major, found this kind of psychological test quite simple.

"Well, it's thanks to the constant challenges from the witch," Leon joked before turning serious. "But Luna, you're not seriously planning to use this as an entrance test for the club, are you?"

"I don't want our Paranormal Investigation Club members to be as useless as those in the Detective Club." The pen in her hand stopped twirling. "The recruitment event this weekend is up to you guys."

After the meeting ended, Luna approached Leon and tapped the table with a black pencil. "Leon, I want to ask you something."

"Go ahead."

"In what situation would a man passionately kiss a pure girl he just met?" The witch's smile was mischievous. "This is a challenging logic problem. I haven't figured it out yet because, as far as I know, the man in question is very honest."

Leon helplessly replied, "He must be witched."

"That's a good reason, but not a convincing excuse... How's life with a girlfriend?" Luna asked, sitting down and spinning the pencil between her fingers.

"Let's not talk about that. Why did you visit the Detective Club earlier?" Leon knew how skilled Luna was with words, often uncovering the truth from the smallest details. He didn't want her to figure out too much.

"Changing the topic?" Luna stopped spinning the pencil and smiled slyly.

"If you want, fine, I'll reluctantly give you a lesson on relationship development," Leon responded, not willing to back down.

"No need to say more. I already know your hidden side," Luna laughed.

Luna's motto, "Look beneath the surface and then construct an unseen layer," always gave Leon a headache. "Seriously, losing three members makes things difficult. The Paranormal Investigation Club might actually get canceled."

"Hmph, if anything gets canceled, it should be the useless Detective Club," Luna said irritably. Leon knew she had once been a member of the Detective Club but left to start the Paranormal Investigation Club due to some disagreements.

Leon remembered that the president of the Detective Club was a girl known as the "Queen of Deduction." He wondered if that had something to do with Luna's departure.

"The President went to the Detective Club to recruit some members but was rejected," Sandra explained from the side.

Leon understood why Luna was so upset.

Luna then asked Leon about the incident at the mall. For the club members, experiencing a crime scene firsthand was a valuable experience. The witch's inquiries made Leon wary.

From Leon's casual remarks, Luna sensed that his being shot wasn't as simple as a stray bullet. However, even with her analytical mind, she couldn't guess the connection between Leon and Isabella Xiang.

The two chatted amiably, occasionally calling each other "dear," a term that the other members had grown accustomed to. To them, it was a sign of a close bond.

Soon, someone knocked on the Club's door.

"Is this the Supernatural Mystery Research Club?" A man and a woman entered. Leon found the man familiar, recalling him as someone who had mentioned the BERGLAS EFFECT at a previous event.

The girl beside him was a complete stranger, with a strikingly heroic look and sharp eyes.

"Yes, what can we do for you?" Sandra responded.

The girl walked straight up to Leon and looked down at him. "You're Leon Chen, right?"

After receiving confirmation, she said, "I need to talk to you alone." She grabbed Leon and led him to a small room, leaving the club members staring at each other in surprise.

"Explain!" Luna demanded, glaring at the student who had accompanied the girl.

Under the witch's ghostly gaze, he hurriedly explained. They were members of the university's Magic Club, and the girl was the vice president. After witnessing Leon's Baader-Meinhof trick at the event, they had watched the video countless times but couldn't figure it out, so she had come to find him.

Currently, even the world's top magicians couldn't replicate the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon, especially with the mind-reading twist Leon had added.

Luna nodded thoughtfully, a small smile playing at her lips. "Honestly, I didn't understand Leon's magic trick either."

In the room, the girl cut to the chase, producing a deck of cards and spreading them out in a fan.

Her sleight of hand was impressive, her shuffling skills dazzling and far superior to Leon's. She handed the deck to Leon, her sharp eyes signaling him to proceed.

"Name a number," she said as Leon shuffled the cards. Her voice was pleasant but aloof.

"Twenty-five," Leon answered casually.

"Okay." The girl placed the deck on the table without touching it again, signaling Leon once more.

Without unnecessary words, Leon counted out twenty-five cards and flipped over the twenty-fifth card.

It was the same card he had used in his magic trick at the event.

The King of Hearts!
