Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Hacking the US Department of Defense

Knowing how to use his powers, Leon Chen spent the next few days testing out his abilities. However, the limitation of using only one basic power per day annoyed him. He wasn't sure how his mental strength was judged, but on the third day of the new semester, his watch finally upgraded from red to orange. This meant he could now use the superpowers three times a day. Though three times wasn't much, it was better than once.

"NO108 is Mind Reading, costing a passionate kiss. NO107 is Echolocation, costing a glass of water. NO106 is Superhuman Resistance, costing thirty seconds of pain afterward. NO105 is Superhuman Reflexes, with no cost; NO104…" Leon lay on his bed, recording the powers he had discovered so far in his notebook. He had identified nine abilities, but aside from a few like Mind Reading, the rest were quite ordinary. None of the movie-like, earth-shattering powers he had fantasized about had appeared. As expected, the three-digit abilities were indeed basic.

Leon wondered how cool the single-digit abilities must be. He tried testing the highest-level abilities a few times, but without success, he lost interest.

"Having understood all the three-digit abilities, it seems there's still one chance left for exploration today." Leon thought for a moment. He might as well explore some of the top-tier abilities. Don't blame Leon for being a bit eager; top-tier powers were far more tempting than basic ones. Who wouldn't choose the better option if given the chance?

Lina had also reminded him that the abilities numbered 50 and above had a loss rate of over 50%, with the probability increasing for higher numbers. That's why Leon started with basic abilities. There was still a chance some advanced abilities might be intact.

This probability left Leon speechless. So far, all the numbers from 1 to 8 had no data. Today, 9 was the last top-tier ability to test.

Leon closed his eyes and prayed silently to Buddha, Jesus, Jehovah, Satan, Sun Wukong, Akira Toriyama, hoping 9 would be intact. With a mix of anticipation and anxiety, Leon pressed the button. A few seconds later, a sweet voice echoed in his mind. 『Sorry, no record of SL No. 9…』 This voice had driven Leon crazy more than once.

Damn, the last top-tier ability was also missing. Cursing under his breath, Leon, frustrated, pressed the button for number 10 without much hope. But as the saying goes, things often happen when you least expect them.

"NO10SL data loading, ability code: Data Manipulation successful…"

Leon was stunned. Number ten? That's close to the top-tier ability! Ecstatic, Leon finally had a powerful ability. His excitement drew odd looks from his roommates, so he laughed it off and dashed to the public restroom.

Sitting on the toilet, Leon pondered the function of this ability. Data Manipulation? He had never heard of such a thing. He decided to ask Lina for clarification.

"Do you mean the Supernatural Law No. 10, Data Manipulation?" Lina's voice carried a hint of surprise. It sounded promising, Leon thought, satisfied. "Yes, what does Data Manipulation do?"

"Oh…" Lina paused, then laughed. "Data Manipulation allows you to control any computer data with your mind."

"Do you mean…" Leon, a computer science major, felt a thrill of excitement.

"Yes, you can issue mental commands to any data product like computers, and they will be fully executed," Lina confirmed. "This ability may not seem as flashy as other advanced powers, but it's ranked tenth because of its immense potential, which I believe you understand well."

"Damn, this is awesome." It was more than powerful; it was world-altering. Since the advent of the intelligent computer Turing in the H Nation., a digital future was taking shape. With Data Manipulation, he could control the entire network.

"This product is designed for use with the computer in your watch. However, be cautious of cyber police," Lina warned with a smile.

Ending the call, Leon followed Lina's instructions and pressed several buttons on the watch. This Heavenly Realm product was incredibly advanced. After entering a few digits, a 3D projection screen appeared in mid-air, like something out of a movie.

Leon decided to start by logging into the Department of Defense website. He was about to do what he had always dreamed of—hacking the US Department of Defense!

"Create a virtual administrator with top-level access," Leon commanded. Anyone witnessing this would have been shocked as data flowed in waves through the boy's pupils.

Access granted, successfully entered the mainframe! The computer prompted.

Leon shook his head; it was too easy. Something that many hackers could never achieve in a lifetime was done with a single command. This ability was the ultimate cheat. Thinking of himself as the sole owner of this cheat made Leon grateful.

The 3D projection screen displayed countless streams of DNA-like data—classified information from the H Nation Department of Defense. Leon casually opened one. A document titled "Classified Simulation of Future Cyber Warfare" appeared. The damn English text gave Leon Chen a headache. "Translate the document into Chinese." In a second, the computer transformed the gibberish into Chinese characters.

Damn, this is awesome. Leon cursed with delight. The hundred-page document made his eyes swim, so he used the second ability, NO104—Photographic Memory.

With this power, Leon felt unstoppable, browsing through the Department of Defense's internal documents recklessly.

Leon was baffled by the abundance of classified information but its limited practical value. He primarily sought information on the intelligent computer Turing's development and secret technologies.

After infiltrating the Department of Defense, Leon didn't forget to issue a command to erase his tracks, ensuring the computer's information reverted to its pre-invasion state, making it hard for anyone to detect the breach.
