Holmes and Poirot continued their investigation, following leads and gathering evidence. But just as they thought they were closing in on the thief, a surprising twist threw them off course.
Lady Emily's loyal butler, Jenkins, was discovered hiding a small box in his quarters. Inside the box was the Windsor Diamond Necklace!
"Ah, Jenkins, you sneaky fellow," Holmes exclaimed. "I should have known better than to underestimate you."
But Poirot's eyes narrowed. "Wait, Holmes. Something doesn't add up. Jenkins, why would you steal the necklace only to hide it in your own quarters?"
Jenkins' eyes darted around the room before he whispered, "I didn't steal it, sir. I was just trying to protect it... from the real thief."
Holmes and Poirot exchanged a skeptical glance. "The plot thickens," Holmes muttered.
Poirot's eyes sparkled with insight. "Ah, I think I see. Jenkins, you are not the thief, but a pawn in a larger game. The real thief is still at large, n'est-ce pas?"
Jenkins nodded, and the detectives' minds raced with the implications. The game was far from over. In fact, it was only just beginning.
