Chapter 149: Priority Construction
Returning to the council hall, Gu Xi found that a stone statue had appeared on the open ground outside the council hall. This statue depicted a warrior holding a long sword.
The long sword in the statue's hand was the sacred artifact, the Sword of Courage, that Gu Xi had obtained.
"Did you arrange this?" Gu Xi pointed to the Sword of Courage and asked Luna.
"Yes, the statue is well-made, right? I originally wanted to make it look like you, but I thought you'd look cooler holding a staff."
"It's fine, I was just asking."
Gu Xi blushed slightly at Luna's words.
They then walked into the council hall.
As soon as he entered, Gu Xi felt a darkness before his eyes. He looked up and found that Dimmy was already standing in front of the council hall.
"My lord."
"Why is she here?" Gu Xi glanced at Luna.
"Something happened in the Central District, no, the Demon Plant District. I was worried, so I specifically asked her to come and oversee things here. As long as the council hall is not occupied, Aridowei City remains under our control."
Gu Xi understood what was going on.
Dimmy was not the type to avoid people. Seeing Gu Xi, she even made tea for him.
After sitting down in the council hall, Gu Xi pointed to the map and said, "Our next focus is on the two core buildings and medium-sized buildings. One core building is locked for constructing the magic tower.
This suits me fine. We need the magic tower, and building it first has plenty of benefits for us.
Now we need to consider the other core building. My idea is..."
"Barracks!"
Before Gu Xi could finish, Dimmy interrupted him, "With a barracks, you can organize soldiers without leaders, assign leaders to complete city tasks, and level them up.
Without a barracks, you'll just watch the city fall into chaos.
Right now, it's manageable since you have few soldiers. But later, when you have more troops, you won't be able to manage them all alone.
High-level undead are easier. You can summon more by killing a few enemy leaders.
But your current troop acquisition rate is limited, and you haven't learned many of the supporting spells for your necromancy, right? Can you raise skeletons yet? Can your necromancy raise zombies?
And your new gargoylesâ€"these aren't head-level summons from necromancy. How do you plan to manage them when their numbers grow?"
Dimmy's questions left Gu Xi in silence. He initially hadn't planned to build the barracks first.
His idea was to build a blacksmith shop. The recent incident at the Dispersed Immortal Garden's blacksmith shop made Gu Xi uncomfortable not having his own.
He thought if he had a blacksmith shop, he could train blacksmiths to make weapons and equipment when needed.
But he hadn't realized that the barracks were the most important for Aridowei at this stage.
Gu Xi glanced at Luna and saw her nodding.
"Alright, after the magic tower, we'll build the barracks. Then we'll start on the medium-sized buildings. But before that, all the auxiliary buildings must be constructed.
Build auxiliary buildings in the Demon Plant District and the Upper City.
The Upper City will still use chandeliers, and the Demon Plant District can use twisted giant trees."
Dimmy didn't mind the auxiliary buildings. They were mainly for decorating the city, and their specific use wasn't significant.
Moreover, Dimmy was waiting for Gu Xi to build medium-sized buildings to meet the prerequisites for her three main buildings.
So Luna quickly agreed.
Then Gu Xi looked at the distribution map of the vacant lots in the city, considering what to build for the medium and small buildings.
While thinking about this, Gu Xi glanced at Dimmy. Many of the medium and small buildings she wanted were queued up.
Especially the Alchemy Laboratory, which needed to be upgraded to level 3. All the buildings in the city were currently level 1, and Gu Xi didn't even know what was needed for the upgrades.
He pressed his temples, realizing he needed to find Liu Kai after handling the matters of Aridowei.
Liu Kai, who had obtained a construction design, must have access to other designs. Gu Xi wanted to ask him if there were any new leads.
At the very least, he needed to find a place to buy or trade for building designs.
Money wasn't the issue; it was about having a place to buy from.
Otherwise, having money but nowhere to spend it would be a real hassle.
"My lord, are you tired? If so, you should rest. Aridowei is not currently at war."
"No, I'm just drained of mana and feeling unwell. I need to check the Upper City to see what's going on with the land designated for the magic tower.
By the way, wasn't there another sacred artifact in the Upper City?
I haven't checked it out because I had to rush to the Demon Plant District. Is that artifact still in the Upper City?"
"It should still be there. Speaking of which, I almost forgot. My lord, let me take you there."
Dimmy got interested. "A sacred artifact, like the sword in the statue's hand?"
Dimmy had been wandering around Aridowei these days, almost like a street urchin, with nothing better to do than roam the city.
Since there was no sun, she could walk around without getting burned.
She appeared wherever there was excitement.
Besides Luna, Dimmy was the most familiar with Aridowei.
She noticed every change in the city.
She even inspected every new streetlight.
The council hall was her favorite place. She noticed the new statue immediately.
Now, hearing Gu Xi mention another sacred artifact, Dimmy jumped up.
"My lord, you captured the Upper City, but I haven't seen it yet. Can I go with you?"
"Sure, come along."
Gu Xi picked up his Staff and left the council hall, not forgetting to discuss the city's medium and small building needs with Luna on the way out.
