Chapter 35 - I See Monsters

Lily by this time could not understand what was really going on and the anticipation was killing her. Chris on the other hand was looking around the walls of the cave and he instinctively placed his hand on the rocky wall of the cave next to him. He then gasped sharply as he closed his eyes, unable to retrieve back his hand from the rocky wall.

Chris once again found himself being taken for a short trip. What he saw this time was however very different from what he had seen earlier by the small rocks. This time it was rather horrific. Finally being able to gain maximum control over himself, Chris jerked his hand off the rock at once.

He took a few steps backwards and held tightly onto his hand that he had placed on the rock. He had slightly began shaking by now. The horrific look on his face was getting worse each moment.

"No,no!" Chris gasped in disbelief. At this point he could not contain it anymore. "What is happening Chris, what is it!" Lily asked equally shocked because she could not get to place it correctly why Chris was behaving that way.

And for a minute she could feel the intense fear that Chris had radiated just a while ago, like he had seen something from the pits of hell. "Chris," Lily tapped Chris's arm jolting him back from his thoughts.

"No Lily I don't get it, why is this happening to me..." Chris hesitated while speaking, trying so hard to make even a little sense of what he had been experiencing for the past few moments.

"What do you mean, what is happening?" Lily inquired, more intrigued than before. Chris staggered to support himself by the rocks and immediately stopped midway just when he was about to touch them.

He steadied himself because in his mind he was sure not going to put himself in the same situation again. He dreaded having to touch those rocks once more only to experience what he just did.

"We have to get out of this place," Chris suddenly looked at Lily and started walking back. He was walking rather fast as if he was trying to get away from something. Lily just followed suit without being sure was they were really getting away from.

At this point Lily was even considering to take matters in her hand and forcefully get the information she needed without Chris's consent. That is something that she could do so easily since with just one firm grasp on his hand or a touch on him, Lily could be able to see what Chris had seen.

She however did not want things to take that turn since it was not a nice experience to have your mind forcefully invaded. Moreover, this was Chris and not any other person. So, to do that to one of the closest people to her was something she was not willing to think about at the moment.

By now, they were a few metres past the caves and Chris finally slowed down. And once again, Lily kept a little distance between them. She had a hunch about what was happening to Chris but she was willing to give it time before she confirmed it.

Chris reducing his pace, once again darted his eyes on the sand as he got lost in his thoughts once more. He was trying to figure out what he had seen in the caves and how that was even possible.

He recalled a creature in the caves. It was just above his head as if waiting to pounce on them. He saw the creature advance ahead a little and right there, he could now see it clearly.

It was in the shape of a man, a humanoid figure. What was however strange about it was the fact that it was totally dark and the contents in it's body moved like waves of smoke. It had no solid feature and yet it was so terrifying.

Just gazing on it in his mind, Chris felt like he was being watched by the creature and that feeling creeped on him like death itself. He immediately remembered retrieving his hand just when the creature had begun moving through the walls like a shadow, advancing towards him.

"No it was too real to be just in my head..." Chris spoke to himself as he kept looking around. Lily advanced towards him and careful touched his arm. "What was too real Chris?" She asked in a concerned way.

Without removing her hand from Chris's arm, she looked at him waiting for him to say something. And for a minute, she felt the urge to just get the answer out of him without him having to tell her.

She looked at Chris and noticed that his eyes were still wondering about like those of someone who was totally lost. She wanted so bad to take advantage of this moment and invade his mind.

Invading his mind was one thing, making him forget that she invaded his mind was however another thing all together. She could only make him forget that she invaded his mind if she removed her pendant.

She had thought about it and wondered if she could remove her pendant and make him forget then afterwards put it back on. This idea was however going to have an epic fail since the moment she would remove her pendant, it would immediately send her enemies her way and worst of all, her nemesis.

She could however hurry with her plan and flee the area before anything or anyone got there but still that wasn't good enough. It would only make her enemies alert and in the know of he she really is and yet again, that was a risk not worth taking. Especially for the fact that perhaps the information she wanted out of Chris might turn out to be of no importance to her.

Deciding to forget all about it and rely only on herself being able to persuade Chris to talk to her, she sighed and let go of his arm.

Chris turned towards Lily and with hesitation he spoke, "I see monsters..." Chris got lost again in his thoughts as he looked around and focused his gaze towards the caves where they had come from.

Lily was still processing what Chris has just said. 'No way' she thought to herself and finally spoke out loud, "what monster Chris?" She tried to follow up.

"Tell me exactly what you saw," Lily stated with a serious look in her eyes. Chris on the other hand hesitated as he argued with himself if he at all could tell Lily what was going on or decide not to.

He felt that telling her about it would be a bad idea since he had a feeling she would not understand him. How could he expect Lily to see sense in anything he would say, that he was seeing things? That she would believe him? Chris battled in his head.

Chris decided in his head that it would make no difference anyway. He argued that if at all he spoke to Lily about it she would not have much to say so he risked nothing and on the other hand, if he spoke to his parents about it, they would just make sure he never stepped out of the house and that way worse than talking to Lily about it.

"In the caves..." He hesitated, "I saw nothing, nevermind, it was nothing and it is all in my head," Chris gave up midway.

Lily saw how he was struggling to sound normal and gave up just when he felt he was about to say something that would have sounded rather outrageous. But outrageous was good since everything going on was not suppose to sound normal. Perhaps this was something.

"Come on Chris, I just came out of the witches forest and got attacked in the process, do you think that is normal? I will believe you, trust me I have seen things in those woods," Lily tried persuading Chris and it seemed to have worked.

"It was just made of dark smoke and yet it looked so horrific as it moved within the cave..." Chris stopped as his eyes wondered into what seemed to be his nightmares. Lily immediately became alert as Chris described the monster.

"How did it move?" Lily followed up curiously. "Like a shadow cast on the walls of the cave...it felt like staring into death itself," Chris answered with fear in his eyes.

'The Shade, but how is it that he saw it and it is already dead', Lily wondered in her head. "What else did you see Chris?" Lily asked again. Chris was getting uncomfortable at this moment as he looked at Lily. "I know I sound ridiculous but that was what I really saw Lily you have to believe me!" Chris spoke desperately.

"I believe you Chris," Lily affirmed but she could see Chris second guessing everything and she immediately understood. "Do you remember the attack at the square?" Lily looked at him asking. "Yes I do, I had already left but they said it was something unnatural...you don't mean...," Chris hesitated with realization.

Lily nodded, "what you saw, it was the thing that attacked people at the square but it disappeared," Lily finalized, not wanting to disclose much. "But why was it in the caves, is it perhaps still there? " Chris asked with fear and seriousness. And at this moment, Lily regretted having explained some things to Chris.
