I had many plans for the weekend. Going out on a walk, playing games all day, trying out the new cold coffee in moonbucks..... standing awkwardly in a corner of the Headmaster's Office, was not one of those plans.
Unlike the storage room, that was filled with equipment and dust, the headmaster's room, was of course, a 100 times better. It was a square room, with royal red colored walls and the wall opposite to the main door had the painting of a beautiful landscape hanging on it. There was a beautiful chandelier hanging from the top of the ceiling. The wall on the right had a showcase filled with different awards and the one on the left had a window, with gold colored velvet drapes. The room had a luxury vinyl flooring. There was a sofa set aligned to the wall on the right side of the door, with a glass table. In the middle of the room, was an executive wooden desk facing towards the door, made of mahogany with a brown colored, leatherette boss chair. One may even feel that such a room belonged in a castle, rather than a University.
Now, there was not any actual need for me to explain the interior of the office in such details, but when you are standing in a corner, with 3 idiots on your side, not allowed to leave, and waiting for what may come, you are not left with a lot of options. I was not going to try to strike a conversation with any of these guys, so observing my surrounding seemed like a much better option.
On a side note, the walls were equipped with temperature regulation magic runes. The only reason I knew about them was because my ability may have messed with them, out of my irritation at this annoying situation, and now the room was freezing with the temperature being around 8° Celsius.
As I was shivering in cold with my mind filled with these thoughts, suddenly the door opened and a lady, who looked as if she was in her early twenty's entered the room. She was wearing a white colored shirt, sleeves folded, with a black colored jeans and black ankle boots. Her black hair were flowing open in the air.
Judging by her looks, one may think of her to be a senior student, but she was in fact, Ciel Lunala, the youngest of the 4 'S' rankers of our country and also the founder and the chancellor of our Lunaria Academy. One thing was quite obvious that she was not expecting her office to be freezing as if we were in hills.
" Seems like the runes are not working properly.... might as well get rid of them", just as she said that, there was sudden surge of mana in the room, and the runes engraved in the walls were destroyed, bringing down the temperature back to normal.
She went ahead and sat in her chair, while looking at the files on her desk, which were most probably the student files that Miss Smith were talking about. Then she called all of us one by one, in front of her desk.
"Why are only four of you here?..... There was supposed to be one more"
"Ma'am, Tim is not here. He is currently resting in the infirmary as he had fainted", I replied to her question, as the other three were way too nervous to speak. I had a better look at her face now as I was standing in front of her, and she was indeed beautiful. she had almond colored eyes with a deep and stern gaze, filled with mascara, and her lips had the color of a red rose. There was a reason she was considered one of the most beautiful women in our country.
" I see, well I will talk to him later. For now, which one of you would like to explain the situation?"
"MA'AM LET ME EXPLAIN", yelled Marvin, the leader of this trio, and the guy with a broken nose. "We were just hanging around in the room with our friend, and then this guy just barged in and started beating us up. Just look at what he did to my face."
Though his story was a complete lie, the injury made it more believable. Miss Ciel looked at the other two, who were a bit bruised up as well, though not as bad as Marvin. She then looked at me, who, unlike the others, was completely uninjured, which i believe somewhere added more credibility to his story. She looked at what seemed like my file, and then turned her gaze towards me.
"So, Is he telling the truth Kisna?"
Her gaze was so fierce and intense that it was making me nervous. I felt like she'd kick me in the guts if I looked away. However, I was not planning to be accused of something that never happened. Though with the way my plans went down the drain in the last hour, I wasn't sure how much it mattered. Still, I was going to take my stand.
I took a deep breath and said, "Ma'am, respectfully, everything he said is complete bullshit"
She looked at me, surprised by my choice of words while Marvin had started to get tense.
"Oh, Is that so? Then why don't you tell me what happened?"
"Miss, don't listen to this guy, he is trying to lie and save himself", Marvin interrupted the conversation, trying to keep things in his favor, bit it didn't went as he was thinking.
"I don't need you to tell me if i am being deceived or not, and you are advised to not speak until you are asked too. You will gonna get a separate punishment if you repeat this a second time. Kisna, continue"
I may have giggled a bit, seeing that guy get scolded, but I recovered my composure, and said my side of the story.
"I did barged in the room but it was not suddenly or because of no reason. These guys were bullying Tim and as his friend, I decided to step in. When I asked them to let him go, these guys got aggravated, and Marvin here charged towards me."
"I see, and what about there injury?"
"Well, I am responsible for it, but it was only in self defense. Just as I mentioned, he charged at me to punch me in the face, and in order to protect myself, I dodged the attack while grabbing his arm and throwing him down, face first. The only reason his nose broke was because he was strengthening his body with mana while trying to hit me. The force was high, and he fell down pretty hard", I spoke as if reciting a script given to me prior.
"I see, and what about the other two?"
" These guys came at me after seeing there boss fall, and again, I fought only in defense"
" Alright, so out of the four of you, you and Marvin are awakened and you are in possession of an ability. In accordance with your explanation, do you admit that both of you used mana strengthening, unsupervised in the academy's premises? I hope you understand that it is a punishable offence right?", as she said that, there was a slight increase in the pressure in the room. Though she maintained a pleasant expression, she was clearly trying to intimidate me here. I calmed my racing heart, and replied to her.
"Ma'am he was the one who used mana strengthening not me. Actually, I am not able to control my mana flow or use it at all."
"....Huh? What do you mean?"
Her expression showed her confusion quite clearly. Not the first time I have seen that face though. The same could be said for the other three in the room.
"My ability is mana disruption, and it messes with the flow of mana around me. However, It's not something that I can control on my will, and a lot of times, it just starts on its own. And it does not only messes with external mana, but also the mana in my body, due to which, I have never been able to control it. Thus, making me unable to use mana in her body"
" I see, then are you saying you were able to fight a mana strengthened Marvin here, without using any of it?"
"well, yes."
"And how did you do that?"
" There were just two main reasons to this. First is that, this weakness of mine was quite obvious since a young age, So, I started to take self defense classes, since I was 13, and that helped. About the second one..... frankly, it's because Marvin here is a simpleton, who just acts without thinking, and his move was really not that hard to counter."
Miss Ciel listened to my explanation with attention and sincerity. It seemed like she was thinking something, then a bit later, she looked at Marvin, who was quite clearly trembling because of the mana pressure in the air. The look on his face changed from what it was before I explained myself. I cannot blame him for being like that though. Among the four of us, I had it the easiest here because my ability was cancelling out the pressure around me, making it much more bearable. The other were about to get knocked out right there.
"Is he telling the truth, Marvin? I advice you to be true to me, I know other ways to find what actually happened. And, if I find that what you are about to say next is a lie, you will face severe punishment"
This time, Marvin agreed to my statements. I guess he was too scared to keep up the farce now. I was feeling glad that at least the situation was cleared up.
"I see. Well then, Kisna, clear another one of my doubt. Which one of you knocked down Tim?"
"Um, well about that.... It was actually none of us."
"Huh? Then why is he in the infirmary?"
"Well, when we were fighting, Mr. Simon came and stopped us"
"I know that much, he was the one who reported to me. How did Tim faint though?"
"Well..... When Mr. Simons told us to go to your office, Tim got too scared, and fainted on the spot."
After hearing the answer, she had a mixed expression, filled with confusion, surprise and a tinge of.... embarrassment? She then sighed gently.
" I see..... well, he was the victim here so let him rest. Marvin and Kisna, you two stay here, I need to talk to you about your responsibility as awakeners. And you two, for your involvement in the bullying and ragging of another student, you are suspended for a week. Repeated offence will result in expulsion from the academy"
The two guys, who were looking like idiots at start, were now carrying such a devastated and scared expression , they were almost pitiable. They left the room silently.
Now there were the three of us in the room, and though I was somewhat enjoying the situation's progression, I needed to get back to my house.
"Excuse me miss, if I've explained my side of the story, and that i am not the one at fault, can i request you to let me go back home? I am already late, and i don't want my mother to worry about me"
Marvin looked at me with a wired face, full of surprise. I do understand the reason, as I am pretty sure no one would consider this a good idea, in front of someone like Miss Ciel. But then again, I also had my priorities.
Miss Ciel, however, looked calm and had a soft expression.
" Yes, your role in all this is quite clear, and I understand that you were not the one at fault. However, I still believe we need to talk about your decision to jump in a fight instead of calling a teacher. Also, don't worry about your parents. I called the parents of all five of you, to discuss your behavior with them."
"YOU CALLED MY PARENTS?", is what i wanted to say, but would you look at that, Marvin beat me to it. That guy was yelled so loud, I was about to punch his face out of reflex.
"keep your voice down, young man. You are not in a park here", Miss Ciel said. This time, she was clearly angry.
" I-I am sorry miss, but please-", Marvin was about to say something but before he could finish, there was a knock at the door. It was one of the non-teaching staff member.
" Ma'am, Mr. Marvin's father has arrived."
"Bring him in please"
As she went to bring him, Marvin's expression began changing for the worse. then a bit later, we could hear some footsteps approaching at a steady pace. Then the door opened, and a man entered the room.
It was Marvin's Father.
