Chapter 140: Some one In the sky.
____
A massive figure resembling the legendary dragon, but with four wings on its back, slowly drifted through the sky.
Below, the humans were singing and dancing, blissfully unaware of the giant creature overhead.
The four-winged dragon glanced down indifferently, and its enormous body vanished, reappearing thousands of miles away in an instant.
The long river roared, churning up large flakes of white snow.
It dove into the river, slowly closing its eyes.
…
After leaving the small village, Aoki did not hesitate any longer. He flapped his wings and flew south without pause.
Although the open sky left him vulnerable to attacks from dangerous flying creatures, his ability to "travel through space" made him fearless of surprise assaults.
On the surface, flying seemed no faster than running at full speed, but in truth, flight was not restricted by terrain and allowed for much quicker travel.
Besides, the dangers on the ground were no fewer than those in the sky.
Without needing rest or worrying about physical exhaustion, Aoki moved at an astonishing speed, leaving the cold region behind in less than a day.
The snow and ice covering the earth gradually melted away, and the temperature began to rise.
However, the living conditions of the people had not improved much.
Dilapidated and abandoned villages were everywhere, and most of the inhabitants were pale and thin, clearly having endured long periods of starvation.
The large trees formed a natural wall, with houses scattered in the open space in between.
Aoki emerged from one of the houses and left the village, where only a single person remained.
He knew only the general direction of his destination.
Over long distances, even the slightest deviation in his route could place him far off course.
He had to constantly ask for directions and adjust his path.
Aoki flapped his wings, flying across the sky. In an instant, he arrived at a valley and looked down.
The valley was surrounded by mountains on three sides, creating a natural fortress. The only exit was blocked by towering walls and heavy gates.
A few rough houses dotted the valley.
"Are these the robbers the lady mentioned?"
With the empire on the verge of collapse, more and more evildoers were surfacing, and bandits were becoming increasingly common.
When he had asked for directions earlier, the lady had warned him about a group of vicious robbers in the area and advised him to be cautious when passing through.
On the city wall, the bald-headed robber standing guard yawned. He suddenly froze, rubbing his eyes to make sure he wasn't mistaken, then hurriedly called for his companions.
"Hey, look! There's someone in the sky!"
"Are you still drunk? How could there be someone flying in the heavens?"
His companion cursed and turned to look.
His vision suddenly darkened. Before he could comprehend what was happening, his consciousness sank into nothingness.
Aoki's fingers had pierced the robber's forehead. Thin strands of blood emerged from his fingertips, fusing into the robber's body.
"You...what kind of monster are you?"
The bald robber trembled in fear as the winged figure who had just been in the sky appeared beside him, killing his companion.
Aoki said nothing, raising his other hand.
Whoosh!
His fingers pierced the bald robber's head, and a torrent of blood surged from his fingertips.
Both robbers collapsed, their bodies twisting and convulsing.
To be a robber, one had to possess some level of strength.
The physical abilities of these two were far superior to those of ordinary humans, giving them a distinct advantage over common folk in this world of demon slayers.
The stronger the individual, the longer it took to transform into a demon. He wondered how long it would take for these two to complete their transformation.
This was the first time he had created a demon in this world.
When the old lady had told him about the bandits who were committing all manner of evil—burning, killing, looting—he had grown interested.
They were perfect material.
In the world of Akame ga Kill, Aoki had two goals: to collect imperial tools and to level up his "King of the White Walker" ability.
Heading to the imperial capital was for the first goal, but the second could not be neglected.
He wanted to take this opportunity to experiment.
Aoki tossed the two robbers aside.
Suddenly, the door of a building below creaked open, and a drunk man stumbled out. He caught sight of the scene before him and was instantly startled.
As he processed what he had witnessed, his intoxicated mind quickly sobered, and he shouted at the top of his lungs, "Enemy! There's an enemy!"
Aoki did nothing to stop him.
The next day.
The sun rose slowly, its warm rays filling the world.
The bandits' lair in the valley was eerily quiet, not a single sound emerging from within.
Aoki clapped his hands, satisfied, as he turned to look at the last remaining demon.
He opened the door and stepped outside.
The bright morning sunshine lifted his spirits.
Success!
Although only the strongest leaders had provided him with experience, he had at least confirmed that his theory of "creating demons and then killing them" was feasible.
However, he had also discovered a problem.
He couldn't leave a curse within the demons he created. In other words, he had to actively sever the connection.
Otherwise, the demons were treated as allies by the system. After devouring them, they replenished his energy but didn't give him any experience.
"I'll have to be more careful next time. Before creating a demon, I need to beat it half to death or find a way to control it," Aoki mused.
Once transformed into a demon, the sheer immortality alone would drastically increase their strength.
Anyone who could give him experience had to be powerful in their own right.
And he couldn't leave behind any curse.
It would be embarrassing to accidentally create an enemy he couldn't handle.
Beyond the valley lay a wide river, its waters rushing and splashing large patches of white foam.
Aoki took a few steps before suddenly coming to a halt.
By the river, a young girl sat. She had short black hair, a slim figure, and delicate features. A knife lay beside her as she silently munched on a bag of snacks.
His eyes shifted from her face to the blade at her side.
Sensing his gaze, the girl turned her head towards him, clutching her snacks and eyeing him warily.
The corners of Aoki's mouth twitched, and he sighed inwardly. "I didn't expect to meet her here."
Black pupils.
Akame's younger sister.
A member of the Empire's Assassin Corps.
The wielder of the March of the Dead: Yatsufusa.
The knife beside her must be Yatsufusa, the weapon capable of turning corpses into puppets.
If used properly, that ability could be incredibly powerful.
While Kurome's puppets weren't particularly impressive, she had still managed to hold off most of the Night Raid single-handedly for a time.
She had even forced Najenda to expend her life force, allowing Susanoo to use his secret techniques to finally defeat Kurome.
If she could control a few super-dangerous beasts, Kurome could potentially be even more terrifying than Esdeath.
However...
The main materials for crafting imperial weapons came from the bodies of super-dangerous species. It was still unclear whether Yatsufusa could control multiple super-dangerous species at once.
"Forget it. I'd better not mess with her."
Aoki averted his gaze and activated his "Space Shuttle" ability.
But at that very moment…
Beneath the river's surface, a creature resembling a dragon, with four wings on its back, suddenly opened its eyes.
A strange wave of energy rippled outward.
On the shore, Aoki's expression changed. Before he could react, his body abruptly vanished.
