Morgan's pov
A moment after Marrissa walked out of my office in anger, my account officer came in with a worried face.
What's going on?" I asked
Sir, someone has been stealing from the company, he said.
The news of missing funds sent shockwaves through my body, and I found myself at the center of the storm.
I sent a word to my father and he promised to be at the company soon.
I also called the police to investigate, and I was shocked at what they discovered. Not only were there records that someone had been embezzling from the company, the thief had broken in and taken a huge amount of money from the company's safe.
I was mad with rage as the police interviewed everyone of the employees but the fools, the whole lot kept denying.
"So you are the cashier ?" The police asked.
"No,I'm the receptionist."
"Did any person pass by your desk without clarifying why they are here ?"
"No."
It was so sharp
I looked away, after this whole nonsense I was going to sack all the fools and employ fresh competent hands .
I was tired of all this nonsense.
Marissa, this is all your fault, you brought this ill luck to this company .I said to myself and swore to snap her neck when she returned to the office.
As the investigation unfolded, doubts began to gnaw at me,I wonder if the culprit will ever be found.
As the day wore on, I couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't adding up – that there were pieces missing from the puzzle that could change everything.
And as I surveyed the chaos unfolding before me ,the police interviewing , looking for clues,I was getting dizzy .
Then the security guy and both men watching the CCTV at the room were interviewed.
"Did you watch the CCTV camera today and find anything that might interest us?
"I don't think so." One of them said
"Really,." I interjected."Does it mean you are the thief or you are an accomplice."I said, staring hard at him.
His mouth hung open to protest but no words came out .
"Calm down sir, we have got this under control." One of the police officers said.
"To hell with this,. It's been four hours and nothing has been done yet,all of you,all of you are just so incompetent and stupid ." I pointed at all of them ." I will make sure you all rot in jail."
"I think I saw something in the footage in the early hours of the morning but when I came again,it was wiped out."
The CCTV guy said, drawing our attention back .
"What do you mean it's been wiped out?" I asked, anger surging in me.
"I don't know sir,I'm innocent of this ." He protested, fear lacing in his voice.
"I saw Ms Marissa walking into the safe room late at night yesterday, she was the late person to go home as a matter of fact"
My brows twitched up maybe in surprise or confusion.
"Who is Marissa Cooper?" The police officer looked up at me .
"My personal assistant."
"And sir,one more thing .'"
The CCTV guy continued.
"She is the only one who holds the key to the safe ."
I turned to look at the police officer to find him staring at me too.
"So ?" I asked.
"We have found our suspect and if possible the criminal." He stood up." Our work here is done ."

Marrissa's pov
I rushed into the hospital, that godforsaken dare devil of a boss, Morgan Thornhill,it was his fault,I had arrived very late at the hospital. It was evening already, the drive here had been very long and tiring.
My heart was pounding in my chest as I raced to my mothers ward,it was visiting day at the hospital and I felt so guilty for waiting till Tuesday to come and see her.
A nurse had given me a call, urging me from the other end to come quickly to come and see her.
My mind had raced with a million thoughts and since then I had promised myself to always come visiting very early but the devil had his ways of sending his demons to deal with you .
I pushed open the door to my mother's room, relief flooded through me as I saw her lying in bed, pale but smiling weakly, she looked kind of stronger now .
"Marissa, my darling." She said trying to sit up and beckoning me with her frail hands which I have come to notice were bulging with criss cross veins .
"I'm so glad you're here," my mother said, her voice barely a whisper.
I rushed to her side, emotions building within me and tears stung my eyes.
I took her hand in mine, concern stretched on my face.
"Mom, how are you feeling now ? Are you okay?"
My mother's smile though kind of faded was still there , her eyes filled with worry. "I'm getting better now."
Before I could reply to her, the shrill sound of my ringtone made me tremble.
As I glanced down at the caller ID,my blood ran cold as I saw the name flashing through the screen.
It was Morgan Thornhill.
Father Lord .
With a sinking feeling of dread in the pit of my stomach,I answered the call bracing myself for the worst insult ever.
"Marissa," Morgan's voice was cold and piercing, sending shivers down my spine as he spoke into the receiver .
"I need you to come to the office. Now."
I felt a knot form in my stomach, tightening, refusing to let go as I listened to his words. I knew deep down in my guts that something was wrong, terribly wrong.
"What's it Marissa?" My mother asked, seeing worry etched in my face.
"It's nothing mom." I lied.i didn't want her to get worried, her medications need to work on her.
"It's my boss, I said I need to respond to a couple of emails."
"See you mom." I kissed the top of her head and in minutes ,I rushed out of the hospital room, my mind a whirlwind of confusion and fear.
I took a cab and as it drove to the office,my mind kept whirling and whirling.
When I arrived at the office, my heart sank as I saw the police cars parked outside.
*What was going on?"
I couldn't place it but I knew somehow I was connected to whatever was going on.
"Good Lord, please save me".
My hands shook as I pushed open the door, my breath catching in my throat, almost ceasing as I saw the police officers waiting for me.
Their expression fierce .Stone cold
"Marissa Cooper?" one of them asked, his voice stern tearing through me like an ax.
I nodded,my neck felt heavy as I did, almost everyone at the company had their eyes piercing through me
I was unable to speak, fear gripping me , holding my voice hostage.
"You will have to come with us to the police station. You're under arrest for embezzlement," The officer said, looking directly at me, his words echoing in my ears like a death sentence.
"Embezzlement?"
What's happening? The word rang in my ears, like a bell sending shockwaves through my already shattered world.
"How could you Marissa?" Morgan asked, his eyes blazing, the hatred and fury etched in them had increased ten times.
"You are so full of surprises ." He shook his head.
"No wonder you were in a hurry to go see your mother. You are so filthy pathetic."
Tears rolled down my cheeks as Morgan's cold voice cut through my words like a knife.
"I don't know what they are talking about ? I have never stolen...."
"Oh spare me,so the CCTV footage was lying." He spat."I know with this my father will have no other option but to send your poverty strike ass out of this company."
"She's guilty," He said immediately as I tried to protest ,his eyes blazing with hatred. "Lock her up."
"No, don't." I begged."I know nothing about this sir."Why would I steal ?"
"How I'm I supposed to know?" He answered my question, almost laughing.
As I was led away,I prayed deep in my heart that justice would be served and I would come out of this mess alive.
