Chapter 13 - The Oak Tree

The morning at the café began like any other. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafted through the air, mingling with the chatter of patrons and the clinking of cups and saucers. Sabel, disguised as a middle-aged barista, enjoyed the routine. However, today was destined to be anything but routine.

As he was preparing a pot of coffee, Sabel noticed something unusual happening to a coffee bean he had set aside. It started to tremble and glow faintly. Intrigued, he picked it up and examined it closely. Before he could understand it, the bean sprouted a tiny shoot. Within seconds, it grew into a sapling, then a small tree, and finally a full-grown oak tree, all within the confines of the café.

Leaves and branches erupted from the rapidly expanding tree, filling the café with greenery. Patrons screamed in surprise, dodging branches and ducking under leaves. Tables were overturned, cups shattered on the floor, and the once-cosy café was now an indoor forest.

"Great gods!" Sabel exclaimed, trying to maintain his composure. "This is not what I signed up for."

Rosemary, the café owner, rushed in from the back, her eyes wide with shock. "What in the world is happening here?"

Sabel, ever the quick thinker, realized he needed to act fast. "It appears we have a bit of a magical mishap," he said, trying to sound calm. "But don't worry, I have an idea."

Drawing upon his vast knowledge of illusion, magic, and deception, Sabel began to weave a spell. He concentrated on the image he wanted to project: a tropical-themed café, where the oak tree was a central, charming feature rather than a chaotic disruption. As he chanted softly under his breath, the tree and its branches started to shimmer and change.

The patrons, cowering in corners, looked on in awe as the oak tree transformed. The rough bark became smoother, adorned with exotic flowers and vines. The branches turned into elegant arches, creating natural canopies over the tables. Soft, warm light filtered through the leaves, casting a soothing glow throughout the café.

"There we go," Sabel said with a satisfied grin. "Welcome to our new theme, The Tropical Oasis."

Rosemary blinked, then laughed in relief. "Well, I'll be! You've turned a disaster into a dream. How did you do that?"

"A bit of magic and a lot of quick thinking," Sabel replied, winking.

The patrons, now calmed and intrigued by the transformation, began to settle back into their seats. They admired the beautiful new setting, marvelling at how refreshing and invigorating it felt. The air seemed fresher, the light softer, and the atmosphere more inviting.

Sabel decided to capitalize on this sudden change. "Ladies and gentlemen," he announced, "to complement our new tropical theme, we have a special treat for you today: Tropical Old Coffee. It's a unique blend that captures the essence of our new surroundings, served hot and fresh."

He hurried to the counter and began preparing the new coffee. He used a unique blend of beans, infusing them with magic to enhance the flavours. As the coffee brewed, the rich, inviting aroma filled the café, blending perfectly with the natural scents of the transformed oak tree.

Patrons watched in anticipation as Sabel poured the coffee into mugs, adding a sprinkle of tropical spices for an extra kick. He handed the first cup to Rosemary, who took a cautious sip.

Her eyes widened in delight. "This is amazing! It's like nothing I've ever tasted before."

Sabel smiled. "I'm glad you like it. It's our special Tropical Old Coffee, brewed to perfection."

The patrons eagerly ordered their cups, and soon the café was buzzing with excitement. Combining the new theme and the delicious coffee created a unique and memorable experience. People laughed and chatted, enjoying the ambience and the flavours.

Throughout the day, Sabel played the role of the genial barista, serving coffee and entertaining the patrons with his wit and charm. He made sure to keep the illusion spell strong, maintaining the tropical feel of the café. The oak tree, once a source of chaos, had become a beloved centrepiece, drawing in curious customers and regulars alike.

As the evening approached, the café was still bustling. Sabel took a moment to catch his breath, leaning against the counter and surveying the lively scene. Rosemary joined him, a look of admiration on her face.

"You saved the day," she said. "I don't know how you do it."

Sabel shrugged modestly. "Just a bit of magic and a knack for deception. It's all about turning challenges into opportunities."

Rosemary laughed. "Well, you've certainly done that. This place has never been so popular."

Sabel felt satisfied as the last customers left, and the café began to quiet down. He had not only averted a crisis but had also created something special. The Tropical Oasis was a hit, and the Tropical Old Coffee quickly became a favourite.

After closing, Sabel went to the rooftop, his favourite spot to unwind. He sat down with a cup of Tropical Old Coffee, gazing at the city as the stars twinkled in the sky.

He chuckled to himself, thinking about the bizarre turn of events. "Who would've thought a runaway prince would end up here, making coffee and creating magical trees?"

Sabel felt a sense of peace and fulfilment as he sipped his coffee. Despite the chaos and the challenges, he had found a place where he could be himself, use his magic creatively, and bring joy to others. It wasn't the life he had expected, but it was one he had come to love.

And so, under the canopy of stars and the gentle rustling of magical leaves, the prince-turned-barista savoured the moment, ready to face whatever surprises the next day would bring.
