Chapter 18 - The Best Summon!

Inhaling deeply, the Scarlet Bunsen smiled. His eyes fell on me, two empty pits that were as bottomless as they were soulless.

"You called, master?" His voice was the boiling of seas, the heat around him making me sweat.

All I could do was point at my attackers. I was too stunned to speak.

The summon snorted. With the wave of his hand, the water bird fizzled into steam, crying out in pain.

My materia didn't drop or lower, despite summoning a mythic level summon.

Am I this strong now? Is this the power of being pacted?

The summon turned to me, his maroon robes flapping in the wind. Steam rose from his palm, dancing up his finger tips.

"Would you like me to wipe out the demon egg just east of here?"

"Do you not remember me?" I had finally gathered the strength to talk.

The Bunsen was acting like it never knew me? Like it didn't just kill me for fun in my last life!

"You killed me like, a week or so ago!"

The summon just laughed. "That's the past. This is now."

Noir cut in. "Hold it, demon. What demon egg?"

The Scarlet Bunsen paid Noir no attention.  He just looked at me as if he couldn't hear or see her.

"What's a demon egg?"

Scarlet nodded slowly. "A demon egg is the incubation chamber that a homunculi sleeps in. When it awakes, the mage tainted by the magic of the dark god turns them into a horrible form known as homunculi."

So that's how demons are made?

"Most demons tend to protect an egg to ensure the survival of their kin. But to have this many protecting one egg…" Noir chewed her lip. "This must be a powerful egg. Possibly rare level or higher."

"What level do most demons hatch at?" I asked Noir. The summon answers for her.

"They typically hatch at the common, master." The air around him warped with boiling moisture and heat waves. "Even something uncommon is possible. But this egg," he nodded to the Canopy, "feels like it's a rare. If not higher."

"How can you tell? You're only a summon. Spirits can't detect the levels of other creatures!" Noir barked.

The scarlet gave her no reaction. My summon just stared at me, awaiting my command.

"Answer her." I told him.

"We mythic level monsters can sense the levels of other creatures." Pressing a gaudy hand to his chest he announced his own level. "I myself can use the skill appraisal."

Mythic Summons we're practically on the skill level of wizards. No wonder Noir needed help to seal the demon!

"So, do you want me to destroy it or not? I only have another minute before I am at full strength."

He's not even at full strength!

"What's that supposed to mean?" Noir hissed.

"Meaning other mythic levels can sense me."

He meant that who or whatever was in that Canopy would be able to sense his presence.

"Destroy it!" I blurted.

With the wave of his hand, the canopy collapsed. It had grown soggy in an instant and evaporated into brown steam.

"It has been done."

My system notified me that I had eradicated several demons.
