"I understand," Chen Yang said, glancing at Qin Moyao.
Qin Moyao looked slightly surprised, then asked, "So what are you thinking?"
Chen Yang fell silent. Qin Moyao had his best interests at heart, and he considered her a friend. He didn't want to lie to her.
But Qin Moyao was also a police officer, one with strong principles and a sense of justice. So Chen Yang couldn't speak the whole truth.
In this situation, silence was his only option.
Qin Moyao took a deep breath and continued, "Do you really intend to escape and live as a fugitive for the rest of your life?"
Chen Yang replied firmly, "I haven't committed any crime, so I won't allow myself to be imprisoned."
"So you're willing to fight to the bitter end?" Qin Moyao asked.
Chen Yang remained silent, unable to explain further.
Qin Moyao said, "Chen Yang, I know you have an unyielding personality. But if you become a fugitive, how will you continue to protect Lin Qingxue? It would be a permanent stain on your life. Why not bow your head to reality for now? Even Han Xin endured the humiliation of crawling between someone's legs. As long as you're alive and well, you'll have chances to turn things around in the future. Don't you think so?"
A cold glint flashed in Chen Yang's eyes. He looked sharply at Qin Moyao and said in an unfriendly tone, "Are you suggesting I kowtow to Yang Ling and admit fault?"
Qin Moyao felt a twinge of fear but gathered her courage and said, "If enduring for a moment and taking a step back can bring you a lifetime of peace, is it really so unacceptable? Even if you kowtow to Yang Ling, none of us here would look down on you."
Chen Yang suddenly stood up and said sternly, "But I would look down on myself. Captain Qin, I consider you a friend, so I'll let this slide this time." He paused, then continued, "If I were truly at fault, I wouldn't hesitate to kowtow or even offer my head. But my conscience is clear. I won't even bow my head, let alone kowtow."
Qin Moyao once again felt the intensity of Chen Yang's inner resolve. She knew that nothing she said would change his mind.
Chen Yang added, "Han Xin could endure humiliation because he was a great military talent. Liu Bang could be despicable because he was a hegemon. But I absolutely cannot endure humiliation, even unto death, because I am a warrior, a common man. When a common man's anger is aroused, blood will spill. I can be tolerant and forgiving, but I cannot be humiliated. Whoever dares to insult me, I will kill them."
Qin Moyao's heart trembled. She was left speechless.
She realized that the man before her was a true warrior. The mark of a warrior was deeply imprinted on him.
The man before her was a real man.
"I'm sorry," Qin Moyao said before quietly leaving.
No matter what Chen Yang chose to do, Qin Moyao knew she couldn't control his decisions. He had no regrets, and she could only respect that.
After Qin Moyao left, Chen Yang gradually calmed down.
He lay back down on the bed.
He always remembered what his master had told him when teaching him martial arts.
His master had said, "Xiao Yang, remember, we are warriors. Warriors are not politicians; we don't need to be overly courteous. We warriors can be tolerant, but we must never be humiliated. We can bleed, but we must never cry. A warrior's unyielding spirit is the sharpest blade, a keen edge. Once you bow your head, show weakness, or shed tears, you lose that edge, and your fists are no longer formidable. A person lives by their spirit. While the spirit endures, the person endures. When the spirit fades, the person perishes."
His master was the person Chen Yang respected most. In the days that followed, no matter how great the setbacks or injuries he suffered, Chen Yang had never bowed his head or shown weakness.
He had struggled alone in a foreign land, sleeping under bridges with homeless people, without a penny to his name. Even then, he had never been pessimistic or given up.
Chen Yang closed his eyes. Tonight, his emotions seemed particularly intense, all because he had once again thought of his master.
"Master, where are you?" Chen Yang cried out in his heart.
After a while, many images suddenly flashed through Chen Yang's mind.
They were all scenes from abroad, bloody battles. He and his comrades had fought their way out of mountains of corpses and seas of blood. In those images, the flames of war raged.
Chen Yang's eyes snapped open. He gave a cold laugh and thought to himself, "Yang Ling, oh Yang Ling, I was already killing people when you were still playing in the mud. You think you can drive me to my death? Don't make me laugh."
At that moment, a fierce light flashed in Chen Yang's eyes, revealing the savagery and sharpness in his gaze.
In fact, if Chen Yang hadn't been concerned about Lin Qingxue and the others, if he hadn't wanted to avoid tainting his identity, he would have already made Yang Ling pay a bloody price.
At four in the morning, the South District Police Station was silent.
The main door of the station was open, with white light emanating from the incandescent lamps. Moths and mosquitoes swarmed around the white lampshades.
Five police officers were on duty in the office, listlessly watching TV, yawning, some even sleeping soundly on their desks.
The air conditioner wasn't on; only ceiling fans spun, creaking as they turned.
At that moment, a young man wearing a black Zhongshan suit appeared at the door.
The young man looked to be only about eighteen years old, almost still a boy. He had a crew cut, and his face was handsome yet cold, as if devoid of any emotion.
Although it was the height of summer and the air was filled with sweltering heat, as soon as this young man appeared, the atmosphere became charged with a chill.
It was as if the temperature had truly dropped.
The police officers in the office immediately focused their attention on the young man.
Their first impression was that of strangeness - how could anyone wear such a thick Zhongshan suit in this heat?
Their second impression was also one of strangeness - this young man seemed like a ghost, without any emotion. He seemed almost unreal.
The officers had been on edge lately. Suddenly seeing this young man, they were immediately on high alert, almost scared out of their wits. Mustering their courage, they quickly stood up, some grabbing batons, others reaching for their guns.
One of them was so nervous that he dropped his gun on the floor.
"Who are you? What are you doing here?" one officer demanded, trying to sound fierce despite his fear.
The young man in the Zhongshan suit looked calmly at the officer and said, "I'm here to see my big brother. Please make an exception."
Though his words were polite, his tone carried no hint of actually troubling anyone or feeling apologetic. It sounded more like a command.
The officer immediately asked, "Who's your big brother?"
"Chen Yang!"
"Is that alright?" the young man asked again.
The officer was about to say no, but after meeting the young man's eyes, as cold and dark as black ice, he found himself unexpectedly saying, "It's alright."
As soon as he said it, the officer regretted it.
But the young man had already said, "Thank you!"
At this point, having accepted the young man's thanks, the officer didn't dare prevent him from seeing Chen Yang.
He had a strange feeling that if he answered wrongly, he would die at this young man's hands.
There was a terrifying, intangible killing intent emanating from this young man.
Seeing this, the other officers naturally didn't dare to object either.
And so, the young man walked naturally to the detention room, where an officer opened the door for him. He entered the detention room openly and met with Chen Yang.
The officers didn't dare to leave, fearing something unexpected might happen, so they stood guard at the door.
"Big brother!" When the young man saw Chen Yang, his icy eyes finally showed some emotion - excitement.
Chen Yang looked at the young man and immediately stood up.
"You little rascal, you finally came," Chen Yang said, striding forward and embracing the young man.
A slight blush appeared on the young man's face, but he didn't resist Chen Yang's enthusiastic hug.
Chen Yang released the young man and, seeing his blush, laughed heartily. "You little brat, blushing like a young girl. What are you afraid of? It's not like I'm into men."
The young man lowered his head, seeming a bit embarrassed.
This scene left the officers dumbfounded. They had instinctively thought this young man was a cold-blooded killer, a fierce and terrifying presence. But they never expected him to be so docile in front of Chen Yang.
"Big brother, how did you end up here?" the young man then said. "Let's go."
"Go my ass!" Chen Yang said. "Do you think your big brother couldn't leave if he wanted to?"
The young man was stunned.
Chen Yang then said seriously, "Little Leaf, I'm here because I've been framed. I called you back because I have something for you to do."
The young man immediately said, "Big brother, just say it. Who do you want me to kill?"
He spoke of killing as casually as if he were talking about eating or drinking.
The officers shuddered, once again confirming their feeling that this guy was indeed a cold-blooded killer. But at this point, they didn't dare to step forward and fulfill their duty by arresting the young man.
Chen Yang glared and said, "Damn it, Little Leaf, this is a police station. Don't talk about killing so crudely and directly. Do you want the police uncles to throw you in here too?"
The young man said very seriously, "Whoever tries to arrest me, I'll kill them."
Chen Yang said, "Alright, enough nonsense. Go find Mu Jing and let her tell you the whole story. As for what to do, you should know better than me. It's not convenient to talk here, so I won't say more."
The young man had spoken to Mu Jing on the phone before, so he knew her. He immediately said, "Okay, big brother. I'll go now."
Chen Yang nodded and said, "Be careful."
The young man grunted in acknowledgment and turned to leave.
The officers watched the young man leave, only breathing a sigh of relief when he had truly left the police station.
Once the young man was gone, the officers felt the pressure disappear. They finally regained their normal thinking and, after a brief discussion, immediately reported the situation to Qin Moyao in the middle of the night.
Upon hearing the news, Qin Moyao took the matter very seriously and rushed over.
Qin Moyao first watched the surveillance footage of the young man coming to see Chen Yang, then went to the interrogation room to question Chen Yang.
"What exactly are you planning? Who is that young man?"
Chen Yang glanced at Qin Moyao, then said lazily, "He's a little brother I took in when I was abroad. He heard I was in trouble and wanted to come back to help me."
