Chereads / THE BILLIONAIRE’S FAKE BRIDE / Chapter 9 - chapter 9

Chapter 9 - chapter 9

I thought I had finally escaped the darkness of my past, but it seemed to follow me like a shadow. I had built a new life with my mother and Liam, but the fear of Damian and his father still lingered.

One day, as I was walking home from work, I noticed a familiar face across the street. It was Anita, Damian's sister. She looked different, her hair shorter and her eyes sunken, but I knew it was her.

My heart raced as I wondered what she wanted. Had Damian sent her to spy on me? I quickened my pace, but Anita caught up to me.

"Wait, please," she said, out of breath. "I need to talk to you."

I hesitated, unsure if I should trust her. But something in her eyes told me she was genuinely seeking help.

"What do you want, Anita?" I asked warily.

"I want to help you," she said, glancing around nervously. "I know what my brother and father did to you. I'm so sorry."

I raised an eyebrow, surprised by her apology. "Why should I trust you?"

Anita took a deep breath. "Because I've seen the truth. I know what they're capable of. And I want to make it right."

I studied her face, searching for any sign of deception. But all I saw was sincerity.

"Okay," I said finally. "I'll listen."

Anita nodded, relief washing over her face. "Thank you. I have information about my father's plans. He's not going to stop until he gets what he wants."

My heart sank, fearing for Liam's safety. "What does he want?"

Anita hesitated before answering. "He wants Liam. He believes the child is the key to his legacy."

I felt a chill run down my spine. I knew I had to protect my son at all costs.

"What can we do?" I asked Anita.

She smiled grimly. "I have a plan. But we need to be careful. My father will stop at nothing to get what he wants."

I nodded, determination coursing through my veins. I would do whatever it took to keep Liam safe.

And so, an unlikely alliance was formed. Anita, the sister of my tormentor, became my unlikely ally in the fight against her father's evil plans.

Together, we vowed to protect Liam and bring down the man who had haunted me for so long.

But little did we know, the past was far from done with us. It was only just beginning to unravel, threatening to destroy everything we held dear.

Anita's words painted a different picture of Damian, one that I hadn't considered before. She revealed that Damian wasn't a bad person, but rather a victim of circumstance, trying to protect me and Liam from his father's evil clutches.

"Damian loves Liam," Anita said, her voice filled with conviction. "When you left, he was devastated. He tried to keep my father from finding out about Liam's birth, but eventually, he discovered the truth. Damian knew that my father would stop at nothing to harm Liam, so he decided to leave and keep an eye on you from afar."

I felt a mix of emotions: shock, confusion, and a hint of hope. Could it be true that Damian wasn't the monster I thought he was?

Anita continued, "Damian was forced into my father's drug smuggling business, but he refused to participate. My father threatened to kill him if he didn't comply. That's what Damian was going through, and that's why he seemed so distant and cold."

I thought back to our time together, trying to reconcile this new information with my past experiences. It was a lot to take in, but a part of me wanted to believe that Damian wasn't beyond redemption.

"Why are you telling me this, Anita?" I asked, searching for her motives.

"Because I want to help you and Liam," she replied. "I know my father's secrets, and I can help you take him down. But I need your trust."

I looked at Anita, seeing the sincerity in her eyes. Maybe, just maybe, we could work together to bring down her father and create a safer future for Liam.

Anita's words left me stunned and reeling. The contract marriage, the scam, the manipulation - it was all too much to take in.

"So, let me get this straight," I said, trying to process everything. "Your father, Damian's father, is the one who orchestrated the contract marriage between me and Damian. He's the one who wanted to use Damian's name to scam the company, and he's the one who's been pulling the strings all along?"

Anita nodded, her eyes filled with tears. "Yes, that's right. My father is a ruthless man who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. He's been using people for years, and he doesn't care who he hurts in the process."

I felt a wave of anger wash over me. How could one person be so manipulative and cruel?

"And Racheal, my boss," I continued, "she's in on it too? She's been working for your father all along?"

Anita nodded again. "Yes, Racheal has been working for my father for years. She's been feeding him information and helping him to manipulate people like you and Damian."

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Racheal, the person I trusted, was actually working against me.

"What about Damian?" I asked, my mind racing with questions. "Is he still involved with your father's schemes?"

Anita hesitated before answering. "Damian wants out, but my father won't let him go. He's threatening to hurt Liam and you if Damian doesn't cooperate."

My heart sank at the mention of Liam's name. I knew I had to protect my son at all costs.

"What can we do, Anita?" I asked, feeling a sense of desperation. "How can we stop your father and keep Liam safe?"

Anita took a deep breath before answering. "We need to gather evidence and take it to the authorities. We need to expose my father's schemes and bring him to justice once and for all."

Anita's words struck a chord deep within me. I had been so blinded by my past experiences that I hadn't considered the possibility that Damian might be a victim too.

"Damian loves you and Liam," Anita repeated, her eyes filled with conviction. "He wants to be a good father to his son and a good partner to you. But my father's grip is tight, and he's being held back."

I felt a surge of hope and determination. Could it be true that Damian was capable of love and change?

"Let's fight for him," Anita urged. "Let's bring him out of that bondage and give him a chance to be the man he truly is. He deserves love and a family, just like you and Liam do."

I nodded, a sense of purpose washing over me. Together, we could bring down the Blackwood empire and shatter the chains that bound Damian.

"Let's do it," I said, my voice firm. "Let's work together and create a better future for all of us."

Anita smiled, a sense of solidarity forming between us. "We can do this," she said. "We can bring down my father's empire and build a new life, free from manipulation and fear."

With newfound determination, we began to formulate a plan to take down the Blackwood empire and free Damian from its grasp. It wouldn't be easy, but I knew that with Anita by my side, we could overcome any obstacle and create a brighter future for ourselves and our loved ones.

I felt a pang of sadness and concern at the thought of being separated from Liam, even if it was for his own protection.

"But what about me?" I asked Anita, my voice laced with worry. "I don't want to be away from Liam for an extended period. How can I be sure he's safe and happy if I'm not there with him?"

Anita's expression softened, and she placed a reassuring hand on my arm. "I understand your concerns, and I know it's hard to be away from your child. But trust me, your mother will take good care of Liam. She's a strong and capable woman, and she'll make sure he's safe and loved."

I nodded, knowing Anita was right. My mother had always been a pillar of strength and love in my life, and I trusted her implicitly.

"But what about me?" I pressed on, still uncertain. "How will I be able to help bring your father to justice if I'm in another country?"

Anita smiled, a hint of mischief in her eyes. "Leave that to me. I have a plan, and it requires you to be in my father's country. You'll be working with some trusted allies to gather evidence and build a case against him. It's the only way we can bring him down and ensure Liam's safety."

I took a deep breath, weighing my options. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I was willing to do whatever it took to protect Liam and bring Anita's father to justice.

"Okay," I said finally, making a decision. "I'll do it. I'll go to your father's country and help bring him down."

Anita's face lit up with a triumphant smile. "I knew I could count on you. Together, we'll make this happen and create a better future for everyone."
