Chapter 10 - Chapter 10 - RESPITE (1)

The rest of the night went well, we sent connor home about an hour later and I went to bed. While I was laying in bed an idea struck me. What if I combined work and leisure?

"Register my mom" I say quietly.

"AHH! What is this thing?!" I hear my mom shout from the other room.

"The Coop-Player System mom. Go to bed, ill explain it in the morning," I yell back.

I wake up in the morning to my mom at the door of my bedroom.

"So, what is this system you spoke of yesterday?" She asks.

"Just say status window," I explain.

"Well… alright, i guess. Status.. window?" As she says it, the interface appears before her.

"I see…"

"What are your skills?" I ask.

"Looks like… elemental control and… magic control? Whats the difference?" She responds.

I contemplate this for a moment before explaining, "I'm guessing elemental control is related to thaumaturgy, and magic control is related to other schools of magic?"

"What is thaumaturgy?" She looks even more puzzled after that explanation.

"To put it simply its elemental magic, think fireball, Ice Spear, etc. To think you'd be able to control them all, though… well, anyways, its time to go. Get ready then join me in the backyard," I say, walking over to my closet to pull out some new clothes.

"Why out there?" She asks.

"Just trust me," I say putting on some socks and ushering her out of my room so I can change.

When I'm finished changing I head out to meet her. She's standing at the back door looking rather impatient.

"So, what's going on?" She asks as I walk out the door.

"Watch. Open A-1!" I yell as the gate opens on our patio.

"What the… fuck.. is that?" She asks, looking towards the gate with a look of pure terror plastered across her face.

"A gate. Lets go," I say, and drag her in.

"Woah! Is this really what it's like when you guys go into one of these?" She asks as we walk down the mossy corridors of the dungeon.

"There are multiple environment types, but yeah, more or less," I explain as we round a corner and are met with my production line.

"What are… what are these machines?" She asks incredulously.

"Oh, this is my production line. That's why we are here, you have high elemental control so im thinking that these grenades could be useful for you to defend yourself in the case of a break," I explain, handing her a case with four Ice, Water, Fire, and Bios grenades, "And, today… we are going to train you."

"We?" She looks at me, perplexed.

"Yes, Connor? You're somewhere around here, right?" I call out deeper into the dungeon.

"Yup! On my way over!" He shouts back, and makes his way over to our location.

"Hey, Mrs. Monty, I'll be teaching you about elemental control today!" He says as he approaches us.

"Okay… I'll be in your care, I guess," She says as connor leads us to an empty corridor.

"You have those grenades right?" Connor turns to ask as we stop walking.

"Yeah, why?" She responds.

"Great, take out an ignis grenade and throw it at that pile of wood over there," He says and points in the direction of a pile of stacked lumber.

"Okay, got it!" She says as she throws the grenade, which explodes into a raging fire, igniting the pile.

"Alright, now, im gonna show you the usage of a skill," He says, and launches a fireball at a nearby pile.

"How the hell did you do that?!" She shouts.

"Its easy. Firstly, concentrate really hard on the skill you want to use. Think about the direction, the spin, the temperature, the power, and the speed you want it to have. Then, strain your mind really hard, and you'll notice what feels almost like a force blocking you from using the skill - youll feel the power welling up from within your hand. All you need to do, is break that wall," He explains.

"I… I see, so should I…?" She trails off.

"Sure, try manipulating the flames on the piles," He explains and steps back.

She stands there for a moment with her eyes closed, and arm stretched out.

Eventually, she opens her eyes and drags her arm in a straight line. Much to Connors surprise, the flames follow the line she draws in the air with very little resistance.

"Wow… first try, holy sh*t," he mutters.

"How was that?" She asks.

"Perfect, mom!" I say.

With that, my family should be safe.
