"Is there any discomfort?" Adam stood by the window, the light from outside casting a soft glow on half of his face, adding to his ethereal beauty.
Azura, standing nearby, couldn't help but be mesmerized by the sight of this handsome doctor. She was utterly smitten.
She thought to herself that she might just switch her allegiance from Owen to Adam. As someone who adored good looks, Azura found herself entertaining the mischievous thought that if she were the one lying in the hospital bed, it would be quite a happy situation.
Zuri shook her head. "I'm fine. I was just too tired and slept a bit longer."
Adam nodded. "If you're tired, make sure to rest well."
"Thank you."
Adam gazed into her eyes. Though he usually wasn't one to meddle, he couldn't help but add, "A girl who smiles often tends to be luckier. Your eyes should smile more."
Smile? She didn't think so. In her past life, she had smiled enough, and what was the result? No luck, only misfortune.
Zuri disagreed but didn't argue.
Seeing her downcast expression, Adam glanced at Aaron, who was trying to please her, and then turned to Leo, saying, "If there's anything, contact my assistant."
With that, Adam left.
Zuri stayed in the hospital for a week before Leo finally agreed to discharge her. On the day of her discharge, she didn't inform her family; only Leo came to pick her up.
As soon as she got into the car, Zuri asked, "Where is he?"
She couldn't reach Kaden and had no way of knowing where Mouse Rui was hiding. Leo, tight-lipped as always, wouldn't reveal a thing. She had experienced Mouse Rui's cunning in her previous life.
Catching him would be impossible without a strong network of connections and intelligence.
Leo anticipated her question. "I'm taking you somewhere."
Zuri's eyes darkened. "No. Tell me, where is Mouse Rui?"
"You'll find out when we get there."
Zuri reached for the car door, only to find it locked.
"Tell me," Zuri demanded, her gaze cold.
Leo admired the look in her eyes. "Silly girl, you'll see him when we get there."
This normally sharp girl seemed to lose her wits when it came to this matter.
Zuri calmed down and sat quietly, her eyes wandering over the scenery flashing past the window.
Leo kept an eye on her through the corner of his eye.
The car was unusually quiet, as if the air had frozen and time had stopped.
An hour later, the car drove into a desolate area overgrown with weeds. In front of them stood a solitary warehouse.
The car came to a slow stop in front of the warehouse, and the door opened. Zuri looked at the building, while someone hidden in the shadows saw them getting out of the car and reported through a walkie-talkie.
"Boss, there's a man and a woman outside, driving a Maybach. They must be rich."
Inside the warehouse, Mouse Rui, who had been enjoying some grilled meat and old wine, threw down his food when he heard the report.
A rat-faced guy next to him said, "Boss, should we rob them?"
Mouse Rui kicked the man's leg. "Do I need you to tell me that?"
In this remote place, two fat sheep suddenly showed up. There was no way they would pass up this opportunity. Recently, his entire territory had been taken over by a group of unknown people.
Mouse Rui suspected it was the Ye Family, but he had no proof. Nevertheless, he had made a note of this grudge. One day, he would settle the score.
Mouse Rui kicked away an empty wine bottle and ordered the rowdy men below, "Open the warehouse door. Let's have some fun."
No sooner had he spoken than the trembling voice of the lookout came through the walkie-talkie. "Boss, they want to see you."
Mouse Rui was taken aback. This wasn't a simple case of fleecing them; it was a business deal coming to them.
"Open the door."
The men quickly opened the warehouse door, and a nauseating stench, a mix of rotten food and other foul odors, wafted out. The two people at the door didn't even flinch.
Mouse Rui's eyes lit up when he saw them. These were definitely big clients, not short of money. He was on the verge of running out of supplies, and this was the perfect opportunity to extort a hefty sum.
Zuri squinted her eyes, coldly staring at the man before her. She would recognize him anywhere, even if he turned to ashes.
It was him! Mouse Rui!
The restless energy in Zuri's blood began to boil. Her hands clenched into fists, the veins standing out.
Suddenly, a large hand wrapped around her trembling one, the warmth seeping into her body.
Mouse Rui lounged on a sofa at the far end, eyes narrowed, his tone arrogant. "What do you want from me?"
Before they could respond, he continued, "Whatever it is, let me be clear: I don't do jobs for less than a million. But if I take it, I guarantee satisfaction."
Leo pulled out a knife and tossed it at Mouse Rui's feet.
Mouse Rui jumped, glaring at them. "So, you're not here to talk business, but to settle a score?"
"At least you're not too stupid," Leo said coolly.
Mouse Rui laughed, looking at the two of them as if they were a joke.
"You think you can handle me?" Mouse Rui sneered at them.
Were they underestimating him or overestimating themselves?
The men around him burst into laughter.
"Boss, these two are here to deliver us a meal."
"Boss, you don't even need to lift a finger; we can take them down ourselves."
"Going against our boss? They've got a death wish."
"We'll show them how we deal with people who mess with us."
The rat-faced man leered at Zuri. "This little chick is pretty. Maybe we should—"
Suddenly, he felt a chill on the back of his neck.
Leo's cold gaze was locked on him, as if he were looking at a dead man.
Mouse Rui raised his hand, silencing the chatter. He looked at the two of them arrogantly. "I'll give you one chance. Leave a million and that car outside, and I won't hold this against you. Otherwise, don't blame me, Mouse Rui, for being ruthless."
Leo spoke just as coldly, "I'll give you one chance. Pick up the knife and cut sixty-eight pieces of flesh from your body. I'll let your men go. If not, they'll end up just like you. I'll count to three."
"Hahahaha!" Mouse Rui burst into mocking laughter.
The men around him did the same, looking at the two as if they were idiots.
"Brothers, isn't this the funniest joke?"
"Yeah, hilarious! Almost made me lose my teeth laughing."
"Boss, they're just here to make us laugh."
