Zuri turned her head to see the person by the bedside. Her eyes were cold as ice, a chilling frost emanating from them. Upon recognizing the visitor, the coldness in her eyes slowly subsided, leaving behind a calm, indifferent look like a still pond.
"Get some rest. We've found the person," Leo offered, providing a glimmer of hope.
A slight flicker of emotion appeared in Zuri's otherwise expressionless eyes. She tried to sit up, intending to get out of bed, but a pair of strong hands gently but firmly held her down.
"The person isn't going anywhere. Focus on recovering," Leo said, gently tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear.
"Alright," Zuri responded obediently.
"What would you like to eat?"
"Congee."
For the past few days, Zuri had been sustained by IV drips, leaving her feeling weak and devoid of strength, as if all her energy had been drained away.
Leo made a quick phone call to place an order. He then remained by her bedside, not moving an inch.
Twenty minutes later, his assistant, Fang Xiang, entered the room carrying a meticulously prepared meal box. After setting it down, he promptly left. Leo opened the box, releasing the aroma of the food.
As Zuri reached out, a hand preemptively took a spoonful, blowing on it gently before bringing it to her lips.
Zuri stared blankly at the congee near her lips.
Seeing her hesitation, Leo spoke softly, "It's not hot anymore."
Zuri looked at him. "Don't be kind to me."
She believed herself to be an unlucky person.
Those who were kind to her never met good ends.
Leo gazed into her eyes, which seemed as lifeless as a dead sea. "Open your mouth."
Zuri remained unmoved.
Suddenly, Leo took a sip of the congee himself, then leaned down, pressing his warm lips against her pale ones, his hands gently cradling her head.
Stunned by his sudden action, Zuri's eyes widened, her mind blank. She forgot to resist, forgot to push him away.
When she finally did push him, Leo released her.
Leo noticed that her previously lifeless eyes now held a flicker of life, and her pale face had a hint of a blush.
Much better now.
"You..."
As she began to speak, Leo interrupted, "Don't overthink it. His death wasn't your fault. You're not a deity; you couldn't have foreseen everything."
"Now, drink your congee."
At the mention of "drink congee," Zuri instinctively recoiled.
Leo watched her reaction, both amused and frustrated.
He took another spoonful, blew on it to cool it, and held it out to her again.
This time, Zuri obediently opened her mouth and ate the congee.
After finishing the bowl, Leo spoke in a soothing tone, as if praising a child, "Good girl."
He reached out and gently ruffled her hair. Her soft, smooth hair felt nice to the touch.
Zuri looked at his hand, then at Leo's gentle expression, and said, "Brother Leo, don't be kind to me."
"Silly girl!"
Seeing that he wouldn't listen, Zuri said no more and closed her eyes.
She didn't dare take any more risks.
What if they got dragged into her troubles too?
Leo frowned.
Although this silly girl had woken up, it seemed like she had walked into a dead end.
Meanwhile, in a secluded corner of Oceanic City's most prestigious private residence, a figure quietly scaled the wall. Dropping from the two-story high wall, Kaden landed softly.
Looking around to make sure no one was watching, Kaden let out a sigh of relief. Finally, he could go see Zuri and check on her condition.
As Kaden took a few steps, blinding lights suddenly surrounded him, so bright he couldn't open his eyes.
After squinting for a while, Kaden finally managed to open his eyes.
Looking around, he saw the people surrounding him and his father standing opposite him, causing a throbbing headache out of anger.
"Restrain him."
Men from all sides surged forward, tying Kaden up tightly.
Even though he was bound, Kaden continued to struggle, trying desperately to free himself.
Kaden shouted angrily at his father, "Dad, why are you keeping me locked up?"
His father stepped forward, looking at him earnestly, "Son, I'm doing this for your own good."
"For my own good? Is locking me up like a prisoner for my own good? Give me a reason why I can't leave," Kaden demanded.
His father replied bluntly, "I already told you, recently there's been a threat from an enemy who wants to use you against me. You're my only son; I can't let anything happen to you. Until I've dealt with this threat, you need to stay home and not go anywhere."
"Dad, since when did you become so cowardly? We've faced situations like this before," Kaden retorted, truly puzzled by his father's excessive caution, which seemed almost deliberate.
"Dad, how about this: you can have people follow me and protect me, okay? I really need to go out," Kaden tried to negotiate.
"No," his father refused flatly.
He didn't want to keep Kaden locked up either, but someone had contacted him, instructing him to keep his son in line.
The man didn't say much, but it was enough to scare him.
That person was a notorious figure in the underworld, whose mere presence could cause terror among both the northern and southern factions.
Given the warning, if he didn't comply, not only would his son's life be at risk, but their entire organization could be wiped out.
He had no idea how his son had managed to offend such a powerful figure.
Kaden's father dared not speak of it, instead opting for strict security measures to keep his son safe.
Kaden couldn't understand his father's concern, seeing only unreasonable behavior and senselessness.
"Take the young master away," his father ordered sternly.
"Let me go. Let me go, all of you."
No matter how much Kaden struggled, it was in vain.
His father glanced at the window and then instructed a nearby subordinate, "Seal the window shut. No, seal all the windows."
Inside the room, Kaden heard the sounds of welding and went to the window, almost bursting with rage.
"You're ruthless, absolutely ruthless!"
Kaden gritted his teeth.
Elsewhere, news of Zuri waking up had made Aaron quite happy. However, seeing Zuri, he felt she was somehow different, especially her eyes, which now held a cold, unsettling look.
"Zuri, thank goodness you're awake. I was so worried," Aaron said, dropping his usual stern demeanor and showing concern.
Yesterday, he had inadvertently offended Leo, so he needed to make amends.
Since Leo valued Zuri, being kind to her was naturally the right move.
Zuri remained expressionless, not responding.
Adam stepped forward, positioning himself between Zuri and Aaron, effectively blocking Aaron from the bedside.
Adam looked at the girl in front of him, his gaze unconsciously drawn to her beautiful eyes.
Those eyes shouldn't hold such a look.
