Chapter 10 - is he really that horrible

*Lina's POV*

Even though none of this is making sense to me right now, I'm still enjoying it. A few hours ago, I was ready to go look for a job, and then Daniel popped in, and now I'm meeting my idol. How cool is that?

I didn't want her to see me as some stupid or useless girl. I took a slow, deep breath before raising my head and smiling back at her. "Hello, I'm Angelina Williams. I'm a big fan of yours," I said.

She ignored me and turned to face Daniel. "Mr. Widjaya, what brings you here?" she asked with a tone as sweet as honey.

Daniel's face was expressionless, and his tone was icy cold. "Give her the position of your assistant," he said. I trembled slightly; I had never heard Daniel speak like this before.

"B-but I already have an assistant," Linda said.

His aura suddenly turned cold, and a layer of unfathomable chill lurked in his eyes. "I don't care, fire her, and take her."

I couldn't help but shiver. He has always been sweet and caring towards me. This was the first time I saw him like... like this.

"I can't just f-fire her," Lady Linda insisted.

Daniel's eyes gradually turned cold, and his voice was also cold to the point that there was no warmth in it. "You dare to question me?"

"No... no... no, I'm sorry."

I sat dumbfounded at the side. This isn't what I want. I don't want to make someone lose their job all because of me. And I still don't know why the great lady Linda would stutter when talking to someone like Daniel.

Daniel faced me and I couldn't help but shift uncomfortably in my seat; his face, his eyes, were totally different, and he doesn't look like the caring Daniel I know.

"U can start working here hencefor....."

"No, no, I don't want the job again," I interrupted.

He raised his eyebrows. "Why?"

"I don't know how to be an assistant."

"She'll teach you"

"No no lemme just start from the scratch"

Daniel was silent for a few moments before saying, "Alright, you start from the HR department."

"Really?" I asked excitedly.

"Or you don't want that?" he asked.

"Huh... i-it's okay," I stuttered. When I said start from scratch, I really wasn't hoping to begin from the HR department. Wait till Bella hears this.

"Good," he said and stood up. As he passed by Lady Linda, he said something I couldn't hear, then he left.

Lady Linda's face immediately drooped. I don't know what Daniel said to her, but from the look on her face, it wasn't a good thing.

"What's the relationship between you and Mr. Widjaya?" she asked, eyeing me.

"Uhh, nothing," I lied. Maybe it really wasn't a lie, but you don't expect me to say, "Oh, he was my date," right?

"Mary, come in," she said. Just then, her assistant came in. "This is Lina," she pointed at me. "Take her to the HR department," she said and went back to her seat.

The assistant had the "you say what now" look on her face. Yeah, I know, right? The first time, and I already skyrocketed to the HR department.

"Don't just stand there, take her away," Linda yelled. And her eyes were full of... what's the word again... resentment. Yes, it was full of resentment.

I really don't know why, but it must be because she almost fired her assistant, and that was my fault.

I followed Mary to the HR department. As soon as we stepped foot in the HR department, everyone's gaze was focused on me. I felt really uncomfortable.

"This is Lina. She is a newcomer. Y'all show her around," Mary said arrogantly and left. She didn't even show me my desk or anything; she just...left.

Everyone kept whispering to each other, and I was left standing alone at the door. Just when I thought I would stand by the door all day, a girl walked up to me.

"Hey, I'm sofia," she introduced.

"I'm sure you know my name by now," I said.

"Yeah, sure, you're Lina... let me show you to your desk," she offered. Finally, I thought.

She led me to my desk and introduced me to a few people on the way. She was kind of cheerful and totally different from everyone else.

Thirty minutes later, I fully settled in. Sofia brought me a box and said, "Here are the things you would be needing," then placed the box on my table.

"Oh, thank you," I said and smiled.

"Don't thank me, we are colleagues," she said and sat at the desk next to mine

"Wait, do you sit there?" I asked.

"Looks like fate wants us to be together," she laughed.

I couldn't help but laugh as well.

The rest of my day went smoothly, all thanks to sofia. She is such a joy-giver and fun to be with.

When it was lunchtime, we chatted and ate lunch together at the company's cafeteria. "Everyone's been talking about you," she said and bit down on her burger.

"Huh, about me?" I asked, confused.

"Yeah, they're saying you came with the CEO."

"Oh, it's a lie, we just happened to walk in together," I lied.

"Girl, if you're gonna lie, then come up with a genuine one," she said.

"Why?"

"Everyone knows the CEO; he's cold-blooded. You can't breathe loudly when he is in the room. He doesn't show mercy whether you're a man or a woman. If you walk behind him without his permission, you might end up with broken legs. There was a time a man walked past him in a hurry, and his odor entered the CEO's nose. The man ended up bathing in a hot pot."

"U know what they call him..." She stopped talking, slowly turned her head towards me, and asked. My face was full of horror. I slowly bit down on my sandwich. "No, I don't."

She stared into space and answered absentmindedly in a low voice, "They call him the devil." Her voice trembled, and so did her body.

I blinked my eyes, and my tears fell like rain. I picked up my glass filled with orange juice and took a sip. "Is he really that horrible?" I asked as my tears kept pouring.

"If there's another word besides horrible, call him that," she said.

We both cried as we ate our food, and I realized we both have one thing in common: even if we are heartbroken, we would still eat.
