Chereads / Fourth Kingdom: Flying Dragons Among Us / Chapter 48 - A Big Surprise

Chapter 48 - A Big Surprise

A few hours had passed, and almost everyone was in the mess hall. Thilláila, sitting next to Kowalsk and Gareno on a bench far from the others, tried to avoid curious looks.

— Lieutenant Builder, are all the soldiers here? — asked Colonel Cleaner while looking around.

— Everyone, Colonel, except those on sentry duty.

Suddenly, the Colonel ordered:

— Soldiers, attention! And pay attention to what I am about to say. I was wrong!

Kowalsk, looking at Thilláila, commented:

— Judging by the looks on his subordinates' faces, I can say he knows how to grab attention in a speech.

The soldiers couldn't believe they were hearing such a statement from Colonel Cleaner.

— This man came to us to offer an opportunity against the dragons that have ravaged our people, fed on our flesh, and killed our hope. Unfortunately, I was blind and did not realize my wrongdoings until many, paying the price for my stubbornness, are no longer among us.

The soldiers listened with great attention but did not understand what Colonel Cleaner was really trying to say.

— There was someone among you who stood out for good service, or at least that's what I thought. Someone everyone knew as Sergeant Dugger. Obviously, everyone knew him here. But now I ask you all: where is Sergeant Dugger?

A murmur began to spread, with everyone talking at once.

— Silence, soldiers! I have not finished speaking yet. — announced Colonel Cleaner.

— If anyone knows the whereabouts of Sergeant Dugger, please tell me immediately, because I don't know. In fact, I have no idea. Unfortunately, one thing I am certain of is that he is a traitor!

— Colonel Cleaner! Are you sure about what you're saying? — asked Lieutenant Builder.

— I am not only sure, Lieutenant, but we also have evidence. Please bring the red book that was found in Sergeant Dugger's quarters.

Then, a soldier came with the red book inside a transparent plastic bag and handed it to Colonel Cleaner, who immediately leafed through one of its pages and began to read for everyone to hear:

"Today we managed to capture five more refugees; fortunately, two of them are women. Our allies in the black market and our fellow soldiers will be happy with this news. Unfortunately, we cannot leave soon, because we have to wait for the next attack of the dragons in the Last Refuge base. It's a pity that our scouts take so long to attract the attention of these dragons. I wish a regional dragon would come and knock down that base at once. Nevertheless, it will be like all the others. A lucrative opportunity that will make us earn much more than money."

'Does anyone know what this means?'

Colonel Cleaner asked, shouting.

Thilláila stood up and slowly walked towards Colonel Cleaner, accompanied by Drakissa, who appeared out of nowhere, leaving everyone on edge.

'Colonel Cleaner, if you allow me to say, there is someone here who knows exactly what is happening.'

'What do you mean, my young man?'

Colonel Cleaner asked, surprised that even after the trauma he had suffered, Thilláila was so willing to cooperate with him.

'My name is Thilláila, and one of the soldiers here in the mess hall is one of those who tried to hurt me. He is part of the group of soldiers of Sergeant Dugger.'

Hearing this, all the other soldiers began to look at each other. After all, who was the traitor here?

'Are you sure of what you are telling me, Thilláila?'

'Absolutely, Colonel Cleaner. Drakissa also knows who it is.'

And after a brief mental suggestion, the beast Drakissa slowly walked among the soldiers, who made way for her.

And when she reached a certain soldier, Drakissa began to smell him from head to toe. He just trembled with fear of being devoured by her.

Drakissa was a formidable creature, with the appearance of a wolf, but much more robust and much larger as well. His difference from the dreikis and their cubs was striking.

His extremely white fur contrasted in the middle of them, who had completely dark fur. Nevertheless, when necessary, his fur blended in with the shadows, and both became one.

We could say that she was as big as a white tiger, but in fact her size was superior. Her height on all fours was 1.50, but if she stood only on her hind legs, she easily surpassed 3 meters.

His teeth were also something that no one wanted to be close to appreciate, and his hot breath awakened the instant fear of the people.

Drakissa was agile enough to knock down more than five people in a single attack, and sometimes, looking at her, either admiring or petting her head, Kowalsk felt grateful that he didn't have to face her as he did with a leader of the dreikes pack.

Indeed, Drakissa was not something that could be faced with just hands, unless it was Gareno.

'Soldier, identify yourself and tell me what you know about Sergeant Dugger and about this matter of the red book.'

Colonel Cleaner ordered.

'Sir, I'm sorry! But I don't know anything! I don't know what that woman is talking about.'

The soldier answered, trembling even more, while Drakissa slowly approached him.

'Soldier, I will ask you one more time, because I am the one who is interested in the answer. So, if you don't tell me the truth, I will ask Kowalsk to act in a more severe way. And look, if the answer is not satisfactory, I believe that this beast will devour you little by little, are you listening?'

Colonel Cleaner would never let a subordinate of his be devoured by his own order, but who would have the courage to say that the Colonel was bluffing?

'I'm listening, sir, but I still don't know anything.'

Colonel Cleaner gave a nod to Thilláila, who looked at Kowalsk, who automatically looked at Drakissa, who already knew what to do
