Benjamin's lips curled into a slow, knowing smile, a spark of something dangerous flaring in his eyes.
"This little part that's so totally you," he murmured, waving the diary with a flick of his wrist. "I just chanced upon it by pure luck, lying around your rundown shack. You ought to be more mindful of where you stash your secrets, Tommy boy."
Tommy's breath quickened. His diary—the one place where his most private thoughts lived, untouched and unseen by anyone but him. How could he have been so careless?
He could feel his heart drumming in his chest, the color draining from his face.
Benjamin opened the diary to a random page, his eyes scanning over the words. "You scribbled a bunch of words in here," he continued, flipping through more pages. "All these daydreams… all these things you've only wished but never actually felt, right?"
