Tommy stood up abruptly, hesitating to that statement. Really now? Out of the city?!
He knew he couldn't abandon his life in the city, not even for the thrill of adventure with these new found brothers who reminded him of home.
School, responsibilities, and a sense of duty to get his rights anchored him to this place as well, but he couldn't reveal too much to these guys now, could he?
"I... I'm just gonna stick around," he stammered, attempting to sound nonchalant despite the turmoil brewing inside. "My man Benjamin, he's a good dude, he'll come pick me up."
The others exchanged skeptical glances at each other.
Reggie frowned deeply, his brow creased with worry. "You sure about that, Tommy? It ain't safe out here by yourself, you know the score. We can't just up and leave you."
Tommy nodded resolutely, desperate at the same time. "Yeah, I'm positive. He'll show up. Just...just be cool and watch yourself out there, y'all."
