"Ready to go?" Fletcher asked while knocking on her door.
Kenneth checked her reflection in the mirror, smoothing out the creases on her pants and tightening her ponytail. Satisfied with her appearance she walked out the door coming face to face with Fletcher.
She wore the same uniform as her but instead of the pants she opted for the skirt. Her long and muscular legs were covered by thigh high socks and her hair was tied in a low braid. The uniform suited her well.
"You look great!" She complimented Kenneth.
Kenneth gave her a small smile. "You too." She complimented back.
"Let's hurry then. We don't want to be late."
The two girls took the elevator that brought them to the first level. A cyborg who stood by the doors instructed them to make their way down the hall, turn left and enter the Kappa Building. This building was reserved for meetings, shows and competitions. They then saw a huge amphitheater with students making their way inside.
Doing as they were told, they made their way to the second row and sat down. The room was slowly filling up with students all in their uniforms making them look sharp. Kenneth noticed that although the Espers wore the same uniforms, there were slight differences mostly with the emblems embroidered on their collars. The Fighter Division had a yellow 'F' written in cursive while the Esper Division had a white 'E'. Besides that, they all looked the same.
With all the new recruits assembled in the room, a group of individuals strode confidently toward the podium, exuding an imposing air that piqued the students' curiosity. Among them was a woman in her mid-fifties, her hair slightly grey and her piercing blue eyes commanding attention as she took hold of the mic.
"Good afternoon, students. I'm Rheas, the Headmaster of Toleran Academy," she began, her voice authoritative and captivating.
"To my right is Chancellor Mikel and your instructors, as well as your fellow seniors. I will invite them to introduce themselves in a moment but first, allow me to enlighten you all of the purpose of our school."
Rheas paused, her warm smile inviting as her eyes moved around the crowd of students.
"Toleran Academy is dedicated to nurturing the diverse talents of young individuals across our nation. Our mission is to help students realize their full potential through exposure to new environments, skill development, and practical application. Here at Toleran Academy, we take pride in our commitment to excellence and innovative thinking. Throughout your time here, we aim to broaden your horizons, expand your minds, and foster a forward-thinking perspective."
Kenneth wasn't sure if the school's ideologies aligned with her own, but she relished the opportunity to explore new skills and experiences.
As she observed the Headmaster, she sensed an air of mystery about her, but decided not to dwell on it.
"In our school, independence is highly valued. Many activities and departments at Toleran are student-run," Rheas remarked as she gazed at the students intently.
I will now allow your seniors to introduce themselves as well as explain their roles in the academy. She then turned and passed the microphone to a girl who looked to be a few years older than them.
With vibrant green hair cascading down her back and striking golden eyes, the girl exuded poise and elegance.
She introduced herself as Alexandria Van Heerden, captain of the Harmonil faction within the Esper Division, alongside her vice-captain, who stood solemnly beside her. She nodded her head in acknowledgment, contrasting Alexandria's warmth with her serious demeanour. Alexandria explained their faction's role in maintaining peace and enforcing rules at the academy.
Next, a striking young man with long black hair and piercing amber eyes took the microphone. He projected an imposing presence, causing gasps making the inexperienced students tremble in their seats.
Despite his intimidating aura, Kenneth remained composed, observing him intently.
"My name is Lucien Canmore, captain of the Venture's-a faction within the Fighter Division," he declared, introducing his vice-captain, Alcione Reeves.
Lucien outlined their responsibilities, including school security and their missions outside the school. As Lucien returned the microphone, his intimidating presence eased, leaving a mix of fear and admiration among the students. Kenneth felt a surge of anticipation, hoping to face him in combat one day.
"Damn, that guy is seriously impressive," whispered Fletcher beside her.
Kenneth nodded in agreement, recalling the formidable individuals she had encountered. Lucien, however, stood apart—a level of strength and power she yearned to challenge someday.
