Chapter 109 - 9%

Lily glanced at Leopold and spoke bluntly. "Not a good match at all. How could brother be worthy of someone like Wang Niannian? It's like a flower stuck in cow dung."

"Lily!" Brooks called her name in a warning tone.

Leopold's face darkened, but he didn't say anything. He gave Lily a complicated look before standing up and addressing Brooks, "Dad, I need to get back to the meeting."

Brooks waved him off without stopping him. Once the office was left with just the father and daughter, Lily poured Brooks a cup of tea.

"Wang Niannian was my classmate and she's not in good health. Can't you find someone else to burden?"

"What do you mean by burden?" Brooks took the tea. "This is called a win-win situation. You don't understand business matters."

Lily snatched the teacup from his hand with a sly smile. "I don't understand, so I'm here to learn today. Give me my 9%. Also, since our family has been dabbling in the entertainment industry lately, any movies L&S invests in, let me handle the thematic posters and promotional videos."

Brooks was speechless. Damn his big mouth for mentioning business matters.

He knew she would bring up the 9% today. He didn't really intend to swindle her; after all, she was married to Edmond. It wasn't much, just a bit of her dowry. But every time he thought about being conned by his own daughter, he got angry, which is why he kept dragging out the formalities.

Half a year had passed, and the paperwork was ready. He just hadn't pushed it forward, intending to use the 9% as leverage for the Jingshou amusement park project. He didn't expect her to add another request.

This little rascal, always one step ahead.

"L&S has indeed invested in movies, but do you think your amateur skills are enough to handle it? If you mess up, the movie will lose money, and so will we."

He genuinely thought his youngest daughter had no real talents other than spending money, treating her studio as a hobby. To prevent her from making a mess, he suggested, "Your aunt is a film director. If you want resources in this field, ask her. She dotes on you and will surely help."

Lily poured herself a cup of tea. "It's because Aunt dotes on me that I can't burden her. She's struggled to get where she is, and I can't cause her trouble."

She almost ruined her aunt financially once due to her ignorance. She planned to wait until she made something of herself before approaching her aunt again.

Brooks was furious, "You don't want to burden your aunt, but you don't mind giving me trouble?"

Lily retorted confidently, "Of course not. My aunt dotes on me, so I think of her. You don't, so why should I think of you? I'm not crazy."

"What do you mean I don't care about you?"

Brooks felt he had been treating her well lately. "I've been indulging you, giving you money when you ask. I didn't blame you for tricking me into that bet. I'm giving you the 9% shares as promised. What more do you want?"

Lily replied, "You're only indulging me now because I married Edmond. You weren't like this before."

Brooks wanted to argue, "What do you mean? How did I treat you before?"

Lily refilled her cup. If he wanted to hear his crimes, she would oblige.

"The first year Zoya came, she liked my doll. You and Mrs. May forced me to give it to her, even though you knew it was my favorite."

"The second year, she fell off the swing herself. You and Mrs. May blamed me for being malicious."

"The third year, my piano teacher gave me four tickets to a musical. She said she wanted to go with you, Mrs. May, and Leopold. You agreed and left me at home. Why? Those were my tickets."

"The fourth year, on my birthday, she pretended to be possessed, saying my birthday was the same day as her father's death. You canceled my celebration. When I protested, you slapped me twice."

"The fifth year, she wanted my room. You made me swap with her. When I refused, you locked me in the storage room. It was her birthday, and you were busy celebrating, forgetting about me. If Grandma hadn't come home and noticed I was missing, I might have starved, died of thirst, or suffocated."

"The sixth year..."

An hour later, Lily left Brooks' office with five boxes in hand, a fruitful visit.

The secretary, who had been waiting outside, saw her coming out and was shocked. Brooks had asked her to hide anything valuable, leaving only two paintings and some rare tea. How did Lily end up with so much? She hurried over, "Let me help you."

Lily gestured towards the office with her chin, "No need. Your boss might have high blood pressure now. Take him some tea to calm down."

The secretary was bewildered. Blood pressure? Calm tea? Was he angry? Leopold, who had finished his meeting and was waiting at the elevator, turned and saw her carrying a lot of stuff. He was speechless.

"Dad's right. Every time you visit, you act like a robber."

Lily didn't press the elevator button, instead motioning with her chin for him to help. "This time I didn't. He gave these to me. I told him we're family, no need to be polite. He insisted."

She glanced at him, "Unlike Wang Niannian, who has bad luck marrying a scumbag like you."

Leopold was used to her sarcasm and didn't argue. He offered, "Are they heavy? Let me carry them."

Lily gave him an odd look but didn't refuse. She handed him the heavy boxes. Leopold pressed the elevator button, then took the boxes from her and escorted her downstairs.

Since it was an exclusive elevator, it was just the two of them. Lily, annoyed by his silence, urged him, "If you have something to say, spit it out."

Leopold finally brought up his and Wang Niannian's marriage, "Dad has been trying to arrange this marriage for a while. Wang's father used to avoid it because I'm divorced. But after you married Edmond, Dad approached him again, and he agreed. He probably wants to connect with Edmond through you."

Lily could sense his hidden agenda, "What are you trying to say?"

Leopold hesitated before speaking, "I've met Wang Niannian. Neither of us wants this marriage, but she can't defy her father, and I can't convince Dad. So..."

He paused and looked at Lily, "Can you help me?"

Lily wanted to roll her eyes, "Why should I? We don't get along."

Leopold mocked himself, "You know I'm terrible with relationships. Since you were classmates with Wang Niannian, and judging by your reaction upstairs, you don't want her to marry someone like me."

Lily praised him, "At least you're self-aware."

She smelled the smoke on him and guessed he had a plan. She was curious, "How do you want me to help?"

Leopold hesitated before saying, "After the Mid-Autumn Festival, probably on the 17th, the families will have dinner together. I need you to come and say you don't want Wang Niannian as your sister-in-law. With Edmond backing you, no one will blame you."

Lily was speechless. He wanted her to be the scapegoat to save his love life? What was he thinking?

When the elevator doors opened, Leopold walked out with the boxes. "Even Mom doesn't like Wang Niannian as a daughter-in-law. I'll talk to her, and she'll support you."

Lily, a step behind him, suddenly kicked him hard on the butt, shouting, "Off you go!"

Leopold stumbled but didn't fall. "What the...?"

A few L&S employees passing by were stunned. They just saw their boss get kicked by a woman!
