Chereads / BLEACH: The Dusk In Red / Chapter 28 - Blackstreet And King Angler

Chapter 28 - Blackstreet And King Angler

Bruno and finger looked down upon their works from that same building from before. Finger was still fishing for Linny, while Bruno could do nothing but watch him in boredom.

"How long are you going to take?," Bruno said as he yawned. "You're just fishing for some girl right?"

"Fishing is a sport of patience, without it one will never get their catch."

"So boring! How do you even fish with that piece of junk?"

He walked away from Bruno as he lighted a cigarette. He put in his mouth, and started to smoke while looking out over the city. As he did, Finger began to scold him as he stayed looking at the target.

"Don't you dare insult my fishing rod, my father gave this to me 20 years ago! It's a great treasure of mine so talk to it with the respect that it deserves! Were taking so long only because of your useless Fullbring anyway--"

"My Fullbring isn't useless! Blackstreet seals of everything in its dome except for light and oxygen! It's the perfect cage, which nothing can escape from! Maybe if your Fullbring wasn't so slow, then we would be done already!!"

"Whats the point of a cage if you can't even see what's going on inside?! At that point you might as well blind yourself! I'm basically fishing in murky water here! Besides, my fish line can extend infinitely. Eventually they will run out of space, and they'll have no choice but to get caught."

He continued to ramble on about the disadvantages of Bruno's Fullbring, until he stopped responding entirely. Then suddenly the black dome around the abandoned building lifted away until it was completely dispelled.

He turned around as he shouted, "Why are you lifting the dome so early?"

Upon seeing Bruno's unconscious body lying against the guard rail, he immediately reeled back in his fishing rod until he felt a strong grip wrap around his neck as well as a blade pointed at his eye.

"You!? You're one of those brats that got caught up in the cage!? How did you get out?"

"Are you stupid? Or do you just not know your own ability that well? Your barrier is dome shaped, so I just dug under its edge."

Before she could get a response, she immediately jumped away from him, and avoided the fishing hook which emerged from the floor. She readied her Zanpakutō expecting to engage in combat.

Finger rubbed his bleeding cheek and made a face with the anger of a thousand men behind it.

"You want your friends soul back? That won't be possible."

"Why not?"

He cackled to himself as he explained, "The souls which are absorbed into my fishing rod become the the string which makes it longer. Once I've absorbed someone then they will never return!"

While still keeping her composure, she sheathed her sword while still keeping a firm grip on it.

"Then there is no further reason to keep you breathing."

Sensing her killing instincts, Finger swung his fishing pole with all his strength, causing the majority of the string to unwind as it flew towards Yuki. She instantly disappeared leaving only a shadow of her former-self behind, only to reappear in front of him.

Finger tried to block it with his fishing pole, but Yuki drew her sword and slashed across through it and his torso instant. He watched as his blood stained her blade while he collapsed to the floor.

Before he passed out from blood loss, a sudden memory emerged within him.

He was on a wooden boat in the middle a great lake. The sun was setting, creating a beautiful view perfect for fishing. He was only a little boy, and he was there with his father, catching their daily prey.

His father dug through his things before pulling out a metallic purple fishing rod.

"Happy birthday!"

He slowly extended his hands out to grab it, with his eyes glowing with great hope. Yet for some reason he could never fully reach it.

Yuki watched as he tried to grab the sun with his weak left hand. He kept muttering to himself, "Father... Father..." as he still drowned in a pool of his own blood.

She walked over to the unconscious Bruno and then picked him up, and carried him and her shoulder with relative ease. Before jumping off the roof, she took one last look at the Finger.

"Should I finish him off? We only need one of them anyway."

The thought remained in her mind for a long time, but very soon it would disappear.

Once she finally left, Finger weakly dug his hands into his fishing coat. He pulled out what seemed like a mobile phone as he began to dial a number on it. Once he pressed the call button, his grip weakened as it fell out of his hands.

"Hello? Finger? You good buddy? Have you killed the girl yet? Let's hang out after this, I heard fish is packed with protein! Hello??"

~30 minutes later

Bruno awoke with his arms tied by a Kido spell and he back laid against that abandoned building. The light of the sun shined directly into his eyes as two shadow figures stood in front of him.

Yuki instantly swung a left hook at him which collided with his face, making him spit out blood.

"What the hell... was it you who?"

She threw another one knocking him out cold. In that same moment, a bucket of cold water fell on his head waking him back up.

"Don't you think that was a little two rough?", Kai asked.

"No wonder your so weak, you have sympathy for the enemy."

Kai wanted to argue back, but he had to admit that she was partially right. Bruno then spoke very weakly,

"Those outfits... you guys aren't Soul Reapers..? We're did you come fro-"

Before he could finish Yuki threw another left hook.

"I'm going to ask you a couple of questions. If you try to avoid answering them then I will kill you just like your friend. Understood?"

"You killed Finger!?"

Yuki then delivered a gut punch to him, which made Bruno cough up a mixture of saliva and blood.

"For my first question what happened to the Soul Reaper in this city."

"He was going to get in our way once he sensed our Spiritual Pressure. The captain and others took care of him for good."

Kai then stepped in to question him further.

"Others? How many people are you working with?"

"Apart from my friend whom you just killed, 3 others. We are a group of assassins called the robins hood."

"Assassins? Why would you want to kill a little girl?"

He laughed as he responded, "We make money from killing you dumbass. Why do you think?"

Yuki kicked him in the nuts, which made him scream in agony.

"We don't have time to make jokes with you. Someone must be paying you for this job right? Who is the contractor."

He laughed to himself.

"Sorry, but that's the one thing I can't tell you."

Yuki then grabbed the right side of his rib cage, and then squeezed it tightly. The bones in that area easily broke and shattered, prompting him to scream and shout. Kai was about vomit but he knew that he had to man up. His face turned into one of horror and disgust as he saw, that Yuki was still calm even with all the screaming.

"I'm still not going to tell you anything."

"Then die."

She stood up and instantly beheaded Bruno with a clean chop from her sword. His head fell to the floor, while she looked at it with no emotion in her eyes.

The head rolled over to Kai's foot as its face ended up staring at him. He began to breath heavily was he looked at it for what seemed like an eternity, getting lost in its dead eyes.

Yuki walked past him as she said,

"I forgot to ask him where his companions were. But as long as we have Linny, then they should come to us I suppose."

"How can you still... how can you still talk like that after taking a life? You killed his other friend right? What is wrong with you?"

For a brief moment Kai considered killing her. But insurmountable fear began to well up inside him, and it prevented him from doing so.

"Soul Reapers, guide dead souls to Soul Society. What kind of a Soul Reaper would you be if you weren't able to take a life yourself?"

What kind of reasoning is that? Kai thought. This logic would ponder in his mind, and he himself was unsure of what to make out of it. Is this what the grandmaster meant by changing his mindset? Surely this wasn't it right? But if there was one thing he was sure of, it was that this girl was not right in the head.
