Bastian sat Twyla down on his bed. She clutched his face and tried to memorise every detail. They only had a few minutes before they had to be back at the Crystal Castle preparing for war.
He took her hand and laid a soft kiss on her palm. Twyla tried to fight the tears that threatened to fall. This wasn't the time.
He pulled her into his arms and cradled her close to his strong chest. Twyla let herself be comforted. She didn't know when she would have this luxury again. If she would have this luxury again. No one could promise that they would make it through the war alive. Not even the Vampire King.
Twyla clenched her fist around his shirt and felt his muscles tense. He placed a soothing kiss on her forehead and whimpered.
They stayed like that for as long as they could, just being close. But the time came for them to leave the safety of Bastian's room and join their allies in the Crystal Castle.
