Raven rolled her eyes and walked away.
"Changing the length of your hair is not too hard if you have a bit of magic," Bastian teased. He took Twyla's hand and they followed Raven.
"How are we getting to the Starbright Forest?" Twyla asked. "Can't you just shadow us there?"
"Starlight and I can but we have to leave the wards first," Bastian explained.
"Wards?"
"Yes, there are different wards around the castle. They protect against different kinds of magic. The wards right up against the castle protect against transportation magic leaving or entering the castle. That's why you can move around the castle with magic but not leave it," Bastian described. "They also protect against dangers like fire or acid damage. It is helpful when there are elementals around, especially the kids."
"Right, that makes sense," Twyla agreed.
