"See! Let's see someone from Class B throw it that far!"
Half the class pretty much had their jaws on the floor considering how far Monoma had thrown the ball, and what was more interesting was that it seemed nearly identical as to how Yoarashi did it. The latter of which was utterly seething.
"What the hell... was that." murmurs Yoarashi.
"Apologies... but your quirk was so amazing I thought it'd be great for this! No sweat though, I'm sure yours went further though." declares Monoma.
Yoarashi stomps towards Monoma, his gaze hardened and focused in on him.
"You dare copy me? Who the hell do you think you are?" Yoarashi shouts as he goes to grab this copycat by the scruff of his neck but he's yanked backward by a binding cloth.
"Don't be bitter Yoarashi." Aizawa coldly says. Monoma looked a little anxious standing there watching all this but he let out a small chuckle seeing the brute stumble around thanks to his teacher.
"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery after all." Monoma smirks as Yoarashi's let out of the binding cloth, he walks towards the bucket full of baseballs, snatching one out of it and then thrusts it as far as he can with the wind at his back. He laughs triumphantly as the wind carries it far out of view and into the distance. Those in the class recognised his strength and thought it was cool; just a shame the person behind that strength happened to be a bit of a douche.
"Copy that. Thief." Yoarashi coldly says walking back to the group. He already had a score on the board, but he always liked to show off.
"Anyway... Shield? You're up." Aizawa says returning the group to some form of order.
Melissa gulps as she's passed a baseball. She holds it gently in her hands as she mentally braced herself for what was coming. She grits her teeth and threw her arm forward as hard as she can, it was a good throw. But in a class full of quirked students... It was very underwhelming.
"...fair enough." said Aizawa.
Melissa's face wrinkled up at that. She was the only quirkless one here, she could've brought all manner of gizmos with her for this. Her hero battle suit that she'd tried and tested for years would definitely give her the edge and make her near unbeatable in this kind of situation... but then it wouldn't change what she was, would it?
"Good throw Melissa!"
Well. At least she still had Kirishima, her hypeman. They high-five as she stands back in with the group; but she couldn't shake the feeling of dread in which she thought the rest of the day and all of the days following this would go on like this. Of course there would be areas where each of the others would also struggle and their quirks wouldn't improve their odds. But she worried she'd always be in this deficit, essentially prepping for everything on her own. The thing she'd worried about since the entrance trials. She couldn't help but remember the conversation she'd had with Uncle Toshi.
"You got in! I never doubted you my dear!" exclaimed her Uncle.
"Thanks Uncle Toshi..."
"You sound disheartened my dear? Smile! You're on the path I once was! The righteous path of a hero!" said All Might.
"But... I'm still quirkless. I can build all the machines and gadgets I want. Yet, I'll still be left behind. Because I'm not one of them." sadly utters Melissa.
All Might sighs as he hugs his god child. He couldn't help but feel the world was always a little darker when she wasn't smiling.
"You have your brain, your father's knack for inventing and your soul. With those three things you'll never be left behind Melissa."
She couldn't help but sniffle into her god father's embrace. To hear this from the strongest hero the world's ever seen was a lot. But, her own brain was awfully mean to her.
"But. Uncle Toshi, just say that I am left behind... What would I-"
"You won't be. You won't let yourself ever be left behind. I know you too well Young Shield."
Melissa giggles at the words of reassurance as she zones back in to the tests; both Mineta and Kiyotaka throwing their baseballs a shorter distance than she threw hers. Her confidence was renewed slightly, she didn't like this way of thinking, but it was comforting to her to know that physically at least she was on a similar playing field to those who had less boisterous quirks.
The fifty meter sprint was a good opportunity to put her back up, she was wearing her special sneakers after all, the ones that she'd designed herself that converted the kinetic energy from stamping down on the ground and displacing it so that she could stride further in her run, making her a lot faster. With this sorted, herself and Tsuyu lined up, at the bang they both took off, Tsuyu's hop were fast, really fast. But Melissa could run faster as she narrowly crosses the line first. She beams with pride for winning.
"Woo! Alright!" exclaimed Young Shield, grinning from ear to ear.
"You're fast." quietly said the frog. Melissa turns to her and keeps her warm expression on.
"Thanks! Well... really it's my special shoes that I invented! They make me faster." she says.
"Maybe you could invent some for me? I could do with larger hops." smiles Tsuyu.
"I'd be happy to Tsuyu!"
"Please, call me Tsu."
The rest of the trials came and went. Melissa's shoes proving invaluable considering that two of the other trials were a Long Jump and a Side Step. However she was evidently behind on some areas. Areas that she couldn't catch up on without her gizmo's.
"Alright, all of you gather round. Time for your results, let's get it over with." Aizawa says bluntly. Everyone looked tensely at the scoreboard. Melissa's eyes were partly covered by her hands as she couldn't bare to look. Her journey couldn't end so soon, could it?

Melissa couldn't help but sharply exhale a sigh of relief reading the scoreboard, she was surprised that she'd actually beaten three people. However for Mineta, he couldn't help but squirm seeing himself in last place.
"Sh-shit." he mumbled
"That's what ya get for tryna look up my skirt ya scumbag." Mina shouts.
"Unfortunately I was only kidding. That was just a deception to make you all try harder. But Mineta, any more stunds like that and we will have a problem. Understand?" sighs Aizawa.
"Y-yeah. Yeah sir." Mineta grumbles.
"Okay, that'll do it for today. You can pick up your books from the A Room on the way out. We'll regroup tomorrow." Aizawa says walking away from the group, leaving them to talk amongst themselves.
"Hey uh, Shoto? Congrats on finishing first!" Melissa said in an attempt to make a new friend.
"... thanks. Well done to you too." Shoto quietly uttered as he walks off before the conversation can continue. Melissa picking her battles here and deciding it was probably best to leave Shoto to have some time to himself as she heads back to the changing room.
"Todoroki. I'll surpass you. Be damn sure of that." Yoarashi grumbles under his breath as he straightens his cap out and stomps off.
"Hey, Katsuki. Wait up."
Katsuki turns around to see his blonde counterpart Mustard.
"Oh, h-hey Furushima."
"What happened? With a quirk like yours you should've been top 5 at least!" Mustard blurts out.
"I guess it's not that great..." grimaces Katsuki.
"Don't be so humble there. You're so lucky to have a quirk like that! Your powers' amazing Katsuki!"
A chill ran down Katsuki's spine hearing those words. It reminded him of a simpler time, a time he took for granted.
"W-what did you say?" Katsuki spits out as he looks towards Mustard. But for a split second as he does, he doesn't see his blonde counterpart. He just sees the small green boy who looked up to him like he was god. Katsuki grits his teeth as the split second passes and shuffles off faster. "Leave me alone."
"What?"
"You heard me dumbass!"
Katsuki stomps off. He couldn't bring himself to hear that kind of praise, he didn't deserve it. Plus he didn't want this seemingly kind hearted dude getting dragged down with him. He shuffled off quick enough that he didn't hear Furushima mutter something under his breath.
"You have a really cool quirk Aoyama. Is it some kind of laser?" Kirishima asks gently.
"Oui mon amis! C'est naval laser! It's quite the shining light is it not?" Aoyama flamboyantly responds, getting a grin out of Kirishima.
"Yeah man, it's awesome!"
"Hey dude, are you really French or? Like if it's a part of the hero persona then props to you man." Jirou chimes in.
"Oui et non. French lineage runs through my veins from a long time ago but now I'm more of a spectator to such a dazzling culture!" responds the twinkling dude. Kirishima and Jirou both shrug, they didn't really know an awful lot about France.
"I like it" validates Jirou.
"Yeah, it'll make you stand out for internships! adds Kirishima.
"Almost as much as my electricity?" asks Denki.
"Won't you just fry your brain again?"
"Yeah- no- shut up Jirou!" Denki responds.
Aoyama whilst this fun conversation goes on can't help but return to his own thoughts in this whole process. He couldn't get sucked into this, he had to do his job.
"Hey uh, how does your quirk work exactly Neito? It's pretty cool." inquires Kendo.
"If I touch the person I can copy their quirk; well most of them anyways." Monoma replies.
"Most of them? Like the nature of the quirk?"
"Yeah exactly! The example I like to use is that if I copied Fat-Gum, I wouldn't blow up immediately, I'd still have to eat a tonne. So it's not perfect but it gets me out of a tight spot." Monoma explains.
"Dude, do you know how many tactical applications your quirk has?"
"Literally all of them?"
"Hell yeah!"
Monoma and Kendo smile at one another as out the corner of his eye, he spies the B group heading out onto the training field. Noting in particular that one was eating some kind of cake and the other had a tail.
"Pfft; Group B. Hey, watch me shout at them." Monoma says
"Wait wha-"
"HEY GROUP B! OF COURSE YOU'RE OUT HERE SECOND! GROUP A WILL ALWAYS BE-"
Suddenly everything goes very dark for Monoma as he gets a swift slap from his new friend on the back of his neck, she picks up in her big old fist and starts to carry him off.
"Ignore him! He's got a bit of an ego it seems, you're doing great!" Kendo shouts at the two who happened to notice the shouting as she heads off.
The two who notice the shouting, or at least thought they heard something couldn't help but try and figure out what the hell had just happened.
"What did he say?" asked Sato.
"Sounded like something about being out here second I think?" answered Ojiro.
"Of course we're out here second, we had orientation." frowned Sato as he took another bite of his cake.
