Grace looked at David, whose spirits were starting to improve. Hearing him call her "Mom" made her feel a mix of emotions; after all, he was the son of her enemy. Could she truly set aside her psychological barriers to accept him? Although she had tacitly approved of the marriage between David and Jennifer, there was still a lingering sense of discomfort.
"Mom, I really don't want to be apart from you. You raised me all by yourself. We've always been there for each other. I don't understand why you were willing to let me go back then, but I can't bear to leave you now. The past is behind us; can we live well together from now on?"
