Chapter 11 - The Eve of Departure

Liang Xiaoyuan bought some medicine, while Shen Tong was buying tissues nearby.

"Hey! This pack is two pounds cheaper than the one you're holding! Thank me, if it weren't for me, you would have overpaid!" Liang Xiaoyuan triumphantly held up the cheaper pack of tissues.

Shen Tong shook her head. "You're so short-sighted! The pack I'm holding may be more expensive, but the quality is much better! Look, both packs have 100 sheets, but the cheaper one only lasts 100 uses, whereas the more expensive one can be used as two sheets, effectively giving you 200 uses for just two extra pounds! Do you get it now? You only see small, short-term gains!"

"You really are stingy!" Liang Xiaoyuan put down the cheaper tissues and muttered.

"What do you know? This is called comprehensive saving! Not spending money is making money!" Shen Tong scoffed at Liang Xiaoyuan. "Pay up! I need to bandage your pig head!"

Liang Xiaoyuan and Shen Tong sat on the steps next to the pharmacy. To passersby, they looked like a couple. Even Liang Xiaoyuan himself didn't realize how much he was enjoying this moment.

"Don't move! I need to disinfect the wound!" Shen Tong said, taking out the medicine Liang Xiaoyuan bought. "It might hurt a bit, so bear with it!"

Liang Xiaoyuan was lost in Shen Tong's gentle voice, watching her focus on the task. Her captivating eyes made his heart flutter.

"Why aren't you talking? Does it hurt that much?" Shen Tong noticed Liang Xiaoyuan staring blankly.

"I'm just waiting for you to apply the medicine. What should I say?" Liang Xiaoyuan snapped out of his daze.

"Good. Don't say anything. Just don't start whining when I put the medicine on!" Shen Tong retorted.

"Don't worry, I'm not the type to cry over a little injury! Go ahead and apply the medicine!" Liang Xiaoyuan said dismissively.

"Where are you taking me tonight?" Shen Tong asked while treating his wound.

Watching her care for him, Liang Xiaoyuan suddenly felt that getting injured was worth it. "Honestly, when you're not being annoying, you're quite likable!"

"Isn't that obvious? Who's likable when they're being annoying?" Shen Tong directly ruined the atmosphere that Liang Xiaoyuan had worked so hard to create. "You still haven't told me where you're taking me tonight!"

"Never mind. I'll just take you home," Liang Xiaoyuan sighed, feeling exasperated by her lack of romantic sense.

"Look at how well I've bandaged you! Now, tell me, where are you taking me? Satisfy my curiosity!" Shen Tong said, patting the bandage on his head.

Touching the bandage, Liang Xiaoyuan admired her handiwork. "I'll be returning to China soon, and I want to take you to my favorite place before I go. Do you want to come?"

"Will you pay me to accompany you?" Shen Tong shook her head without hesitation.

Acting disappointed, Liang Xiaoyuan replied, "Alright. If you don't want to, I won't force you. I'll drive you home now."

Seeing his disappointment, Shen Tong got up and walked to his car. "I was just kidding. Where is this place? I'll go with you!"

Shortly after, Liang Xiaoyuan took Shen Tong to a bar. He turned on the lights and said, "This is the bar I opened. Whenever I'm in a bad mood, I come here to sing."

"Are you in a bad mood today?" Shen Tong asked.

Liang Xiaoyuan smiled. "I haven't been in a good mood for a long time."

Pouting, Shen Tong said, "You rich people really don't know how to appreciate your blessings. You guys always act like you're so miserable even though you have everything. Your life is without worry, yet you still find ways to be melancholy!"

"You only see the superficial side! Do you really think money can solve everything?" Liang Xiaoyuan looked solemn. "There are so many things beyond our control..."

With that, Liang Xiaoyuan picked up a guitar from the corner, sat on the stage, and began to sing.

Watching him on stage, Shen Tong saw the faint sadness in his obsidian-like eyes. Perhaps this was the real Liang Xiaoyuan behind his brilliant exterior.

"Did you write this song? It's beautiful!" Shen Tong sincerely praised him.

Liang Xiaoyuan nodded. "Yes, I wrote both the lyrics and the music."

"How did you write such a sad song?" Shen Tong asked cautiously, fearing she might say the wrong thing.

After a moment of silence, Liang Xiaoyuan replied, "Because I've been through it."

Shen Tong nodded, not probing further. She knew the person Liang Xiaoyuan was thinking of when he said this was Xie Sangyan. What had happened between them to leave him so forlorn?

"Why did you bring me here?" Shen Tong still didn't understand why Liang Xiaoyuan had brought her to the bar.

"Because I feel relaxed around you. Some people approach me because of my background, while others distance themselves for the same reason. You're the only one who doesn't change because of who I am. Although you never try to please me, I feel the most at ease and happy with you," Liang Xiaoyuan said gently.

Shen Tong was taken aback by his words. "Maybe I'm just deliberately using this method to get close to you!"

"No." Liang Xiaoyuan said firmly.

"How can you be so sure?" Shen Tong asked, surprised.

Liang Xiaoyuan smiled. "Intuition!"

"Stop talking to me like this! I'm not a sentimental person!" Shen Tong said, feeling awkward.

"I'm not sentimental either!" Liang Xiaoyuan quickly changed the subject when he saw her discomfort. "I'm going back to China tomorrow. So, this is also a farewell."

Shen Tong felt a pang of sadness. "You're leaving tomorrow?"

Liang Xiaoyuan nodded, then grinned mischievously. "Yes, so before I go, I wanted to sing you a song to improve my image in your eyes a bit."

"I don't think you'll make it as an idol," Shen Tong joked.

After tidying up the bar, Liang Xiaoyuan motioned for Shen Tong to leave. "Let's go. Before I leave, I wanted to tell you that you're the only friend I've made in the UK."

"Liang Xiaoyuan, I'll remember you! Truly!" Shen Tong was moved by his words.

"I'll always remember you too!" Liang Xiaoyuan touched the bandage on his head. "I doubt anyone else would dare hit me like that."
