Chapter 7: That's Exactly What I Wanted

"So, how about it? I can offer you two modules. That's quite a generous offer!" the Human-Faced Rat said, slightly more alert.

"Well, it seems like I can't get any more useful information from you. In that case, you might as well die!" Lu Li spread his hands, and the shadows behind him gathered into a massive humanoid figure, charging towards the Human-Faced Rat.

"I didn't expect you to choose such an unwise course of action. Following my proposal would have been all benefits and no drawbacks. Humans truly are a wretched species," the Human-Faced Rat spat venomously, its black fur standing on end and shooting out like spears.

Moving swiftly, it bunched up its black fur to block the flying daggers from the shadow assassins. The shadow claws that intercepted it were swept aside by its worm-like tail, but Lu Li's shadow form was already closing in.

The enormous shadow giant threw a punch, its shadowy form swirling like liquid, its fist instantly enlarging. The Human-Faced Rat's black fur stood erect, elongating and thickening, turning the rat into a hedgehog.

The shadow giant's fist was punctured with holes, but the Human-Faced Rat was still sent flying, crashing into the school building's wall, leaving spiderweb-like cracks. Because it was daytime, Lu Li's shadow power was doubled, amounting to about four units of strength—an incredibly formidable force.

"Feel the wrath of the gods, foolish human!" The Human-Faced Rat spat blood, beginning its final desperate maneuver. It chanted evil and strange incantations, a peculiar power gathering in the air, causing the atmosphere to become unstable, threatening to unleash a massive storm.

"Great Black Wind God, with your mighty power, destroy all my enemies!" The Human-Faced Rat cried out, its voice hoarse with blood, as black substance formed in the air—a power capable of obliterating everything.

The Human-Faced Rat added its black fur into the Black Wind, believing that the mighty Black Wind would pierce the hearts of its enemies, destroying their lives. It held such faith.

The shadow giant moved quickly, rushing forward and exploding, shadowy tentacles piercing the Human-Faced Rat. It didn't die immediately, but with Wang Lesheng dead inside it, the Human-Faced Rat's body began to dissipate. Without a host, it would disappear completely in minutes, even without its injuries.

Seeing that the Black Wind hadn't stopped, Lu Li instantly unleashed his muscle restraints, charging forward to the shadow giant. The shadow giant reformed, wrapping around Lu Li, forming a massive shadow sphere. The shadow units in the vicinity were unsummoned, and all of Lu Li's shadow energy was focused on the shadow sphere. [TL: Shadow Sphere Shield would be so cool]

The Black Wind erupted, its destructive force weakened due to insufficient power and the reality of the situation, turning into a strong storm mixed with black material and the Human-Faced Rat's black fur, destroying everything in its path. The nearby teaching building was riddled with holes.

The shadow sphere was buffeted by the Black Wind, with black substances and fur hitting it but being wrapped in shadows, unable to penetrate further, bouncing around as the storm raged.

Fortunately, the Black Wind lasted only a few dozen seconds before losing its strength and dissipating. The shadow sphere fell to the ground, gradually fading away. Lu Li emerged, clutching his abdomen where a penetrating wound was evident. A black fur had pierced the shadow sphere, penetrating his stomach.

The black fur was fading, indicating that the Human-Faced Rat was about to die. Forcing his muscles to close the wound, Lu Li looked at the pockmarked teaching building and the destroyed school grounds, laughing to himself. The school leaders would have quite a headache over this.

Quickly moving to where the Human-Faced Rat had been, Lu Li saw that it had shattered into a phantom. Whether because it was a follower of the Black Wind God or because it was dissipating, the Black Wind hadn't affected it.

The phantom of the Human-Faced Rat was silently screaming, opening and closing its mouth but making no sound due to its dissipating state. Whether it was cursing or praying to its god, Lu Li couldn't tell.

Activating his brain's overclocking, he finely tuned his senses to everything before him, gathering the sparse shadow energy in his hand. Finally, as the Human-Faced Rat completely disintegrated, Lu Li felt something break in the void. Channeling his shadow energy into his hand, he grasped at the air, and two modules appeared in his hand. Another module fell to the ground where the Human-Faced Rat had died.

"Huh? So, killing a Mind Demon player can still drop modules?" Lu Li thought, picking up the module. He reached out with his senses to the distant shadow units.

Thanks to the teaching building blocking most of the Black Wind's effects, it had only caused a strong gust over there. Zhou Qian had used the wind to his advantage, escaping with his blood tentacles while the shadow units were hindered.

"Well, if he escaped, he escaped. The important thing now is to get out of here. With all this commotion, someone's probably already called the police," Lu Li thought, commanding the shadow units. The shadow claws were unsummoned, and a few shadow assassins surrounded him as he left the school.

The arriving police and school leaders were left distraught at the destruction wrought by the Black Wind. Bystanders began spinning wild tales, suggesting the school was built on an old graveyard and the disturbance was due to releasing pent-up resentment. [TL: Every school ever]

The police found the surveillance cameras had been physically damaged. Despite the strange circumstances, they could only treat it as a natural disaster. To quell the rumors, they brought in experts for a thorough and seemingly legitimate academic investigation. Meanwhile, the school leaders began planning how to request funding from higher authorities and how to allocate it. Thus, Lu Li's little game ended...
