Chapter 54 - Dave's Dream

**Dave's Dream**

The town of Hitchin is located north of London with a population of just over 30,000. It is a very traditional English town.

Going north along the country road at the entrance of the town, you can see a large supermarket chain called Sunsbury on the roadside. This is the largest and only large supermarket in this town, so the business is always particularly good.

At 8 in the morning, the supermarket doors opened, and the employees who had been prepared inside were dressed in neat uniforms, each standing in their own area, waiting for the guests.

The site manager of the supermarket is a middle-aged man in his forties, holding a roll of books and patrolling around the store.

In the area he passed by, the service staff greeted him with respectful eyes one by one because the pen in his hand determined their salary for the day.

The middle-aged person had a stern face, expressionless.

When he came to the frozen food area, he stopped suddenly.

"Joel!" the middle-aged man shouted.

A young man ran out next to him and looked around first. He suddenly found that there was one less person in the area he was in charge of. He hurriedly approached and whispered, "He went to the Sunday league yesterday and played the full game. He might be coming now."

The Sunday League is an amateur regional league held exclusively on Sundays and can be found all over England.

The middle-aged man nodded, "Did they lose or win?"

"Win, 5-0. He also knocked the opponent's striker out!" Joel said with a smile.

The middle-aged man nodded with joy when he heard it. "Did he wear a jersey with our supermarket logo?"

"Of course, I reminded him!"

The middle-aged man nodded, and ticked the pen on the roll of books. Joel looked relieved.

"Wait for him to come to work, and you give this to him!" Before leaving, the middle-aged man seemed to remember something. He drew a note from his pocket and wrote a string of phone numbers on it.

"Who's calling?" Joel asked.

"I don't know. I heard it's a football club. You can find Dave's. You just leave it to him." After that, the middle-aged man left without naming the club.

Joel took the note, carefully looked at the string of numbers, folded it up carefully, and put it in the pocket of his waterproof uniform.

About an hour later, a British young man ran in from the outside and sneaked around when he walked into the store. The female colleague at the checkout desk made a safe gesture towards him, and then he was relieved.

This young man was very tall, at least 1.90 meters. At the same time, he was physically sturdy, but he did not look bulky at all. The other people in the store had a good relationship with him, at least someone kept saying hello along the way.

"Dave, what's the matter with you? What time is it?" Joel emerged from the freezing room, holding cargo, and saw his companion changing shoes, immediately complaining.

"What? Did the manager scold you?" Dave asked with a smile.

Joel shook his head. "That's not true, but he just called."

When Dave heard it, he suddenly felt tense.

Seeing him like this, Joel was very pleased with his mischief, "But as soon as he heard that you wore the logo jersey in the store to play, he let you go."

"Hehe, that is, I should talk to him about sponsorship fees one of these days!" Dave put on his shoes and jumped up, his jumping ability quite good.

"Come on, dear brother Joel, this heavy work is for me, you stay on the sidelines!"

Having said that, Dave took over the frozen product in Joel's hand. Joel, who was still holding the heavy cargo and was out of breath, found it became very easy for Dave.

"You are really a scary monster!" Joel said with emotion.

As soon as Dave came to work, he was busy in the frozen food area. Joel just took care of the things that he hadn't sorted out for a long time and got it in his hands.

"Oh, by the way, Dave, the manager told me just now that someone came to see you yesterday." Joel suddenly remembered and drew the note from his pocket.

"Really? Why don't I know?" Dave asked, puzzled.

Joel shook the note in his hand. "You ran off early yesterday. He came over at 4 pm. At that time, you should have been ready to play on the field. Can you split yourself?"

Dave shrugged. "Then what did he say?"

"He said he represented a football club and just left a phone number, asking you to contact him if you were interested."

When he heard this, Dave was shocked. After a while, he grabbed the note from Joel's hand.

"Dave, could it be a London team?" Joel and Dave were obviously familiar. He knew that Dave's wish was to become a professional football player.

"Probably not. The teams there didn't look at us. Remember the team from London last Sunday that we met in the league? They won against us, but they deliberately played with us. I don't like the teams there!" Dave was indignant when he remembered it.

"That might be a team from somewhere else. You should call them back, at least. They found you here in person, so they should be somewhat sincere!" Joel advised.

Dave looked at the note for a while, finally put it back in his pocket, and without expressing his stance said, "I'll take care of it after work!"

In the Sainsbury Supermarket, Dave and Joel were responsible for the sale of frozen foods. The task was simple. These frozen things were generally heavy. It took strength to handle them.

Joel was a very good accountant, but his physical work was not very good. On the other hand, Dave was strong and found the work very easy. He always helped Joel, allowing the latter to concentrate on weighing at the front desk.

Supermarkets were not very busy in the morning. Generally, the first wave of peak hours didn't arrive until noon. All supermarket employees could only go to eat in batches after the peak period was over.

As usual, Joel went to dinner first, then came back to change Dave.

"Hey, Dave, remember to call!" Joel reminded Dave before leaving.

Dave nodded and walked out of the supermarket with his head down.

There was a phone booth near the supermarket entrance. Dave had both hands in his pockets. On the left was the note with the phone number on it, and on the right was a coin.

Hesitant, Dave slowed down, but eventually came to the phone booth.

Taking a deep breath, Dave took out the coin, shoved it into the phone, and pressed the phone number on the note.

"Hello, Levi speaking. Who is this?" A very magnetic male voice came from the phone.

"Hello, I ... I'm Dave Kitson," Dave just said and seemed to be afraid the other person wouldn't know who he was, so he added, "the one from Sainsbury's supermarket."

"Oh, hello, Dave!" Levi on the phone remembered immediately, "I didn't see you yesterday. They said you went to play football outside. I originally planned that if you didn't call me, I would come to see you again these days!"

"Thank you. I heard you are a scout at a football club?" Dave asked with a trembling voice, looking very excited.

"It should be. I represent New Manchester United. Have you heard of our team? It's a new team in Manchester!" Levi asked.

Dave thought about it, "Is that the new team of Manchester United fans?"

"Yes, we participated in the Northwest Division B League last year and won the double championship. This year, we were promoted to the National League by the FA. I would like to ask if you are interested in playing for our team."

Dave hesitated. Last year, Hitchin Town's amateur team invited him, but he refused because it was also a low-level team in the regional league. He thought it was better to continue to participate in his current team, as he now had a good job and could play with friends every Sunday.

But things were obviously different now, with a National League team, England's fifth league.

"Excuse me, is your team professional?" Dave asked again.

Levi smiled. "Last year we were semi-professional, but this year we will become a professional team. I think if you have any questions, maybe you can come to Manchester to see for yourself. The cost will be borne by our team, so you can have a more intuitive understanding of our team. If you agree, we can discuss the contract on the spot."

Dave was obviously convinced by Levi's words. After thinking about it, he agreed with Levi on a time and then hung up the phone.

After hanging up the phone, Dave still stood in the phone booth, staring at the note in his hand, and couldn't believe it for a long time. Even a professional club had found him.

"Am I dreaming?" Dave murmured to himself.

Levi, who was on the phone, hung up and showed a happy smile. Because of this phone call, he had secured one of the future stars of New Manchester United.

As for the next negotiations, Levi was confident he could keep Dave in Manchester because the ambition of New Manchester United would excite all players who wanted to develop in the football field.

After clearing up his mood, Levi turned and walked back to the Italian restaurant he had just walked out of.

Although he was still in London yesterday evening, he had now reached a small town outside Rome, Italy, and had found the person he was looking for.

"I'm sorry to have kept you waiting, Alberto!" Levi smiled and apologized to his guest.
