Chapter 1 - Merchant System

Nikos's body lay on the ground, he was already dead, at least on Earth. Through the branches of ancient trees, a golden sunlight filtered down, illuminating his form gracefully.

All of a sudden, Nikos awoke with a ragged breath.

The moment he opened his eyes, he knew two things: he wasn't dead, and this definitely wasn't his world. As his last memories seeped back through his mind, he recalled the direct view of the menacing jaws of the shark that had torn into his body.

Nikos looked around and found himself in the middle of a jungle, under the shade of an ancient tree. He touched his body, making sure everything was in place. It's all safe, there's no deformity. He let out a sigh of relief.

Then where is this? Is this heaven?

Or did I get transmigrate into another world, like in manga and anime or something? But I didn't meet any god or goddess that brought me here.

But I was dead for sure; the memory was too real to be a fake one. Damn shark. They said it wasn't so dangerous and didn't consider humans as a prey, yet it attacked me ferociously as if I were its food.

His peaceful holiday, which was supposed to be enjoyable, had turned into a nightmarish death. As Nikos took in his surroundings, he was in open area in the middle of the jungle, he slowed his ragged breathing, steadily trying to calm his mind. This definitely a different world.

Finally, after regaining his composure, a slight smile began to form on his lips. Now I see it. On the bright side, this means at least I'm free now from that annoying old man.

Since the surrounding area seemed safe, he sat against the tree to gather his thoughts. Usually, if someone gets reincarnated or transmigrates into another world, they get a cheat system.

"Status!" he called out.

Nikos waited for a moment, but nothing happened.

Remembering the manga and anime he had watched in the past, Maybe the other one. "System!" he called for the second time, and this time it worked.

In mere seconds, a golden system appeared with a shower of golden coins as the symbol, then it moved into the main system interface.

"Tch," Nikos muttered in annoyance. "Even in this world, I still need to deal with business. I guess everywhere you go, you always need money to have an easy life."

Nikos turned his attention back to the system. He looked around and tried to get used to it, checking out the 'Merchant System' tab.

"If I knew I would transmigrate into another world with this system, I would have taken my business lessons from the old man more seriously." he felt a twinge of regret but quickly shook his head.

Nikos continued checking the other tabs and clicked on the 'Class' tab. The interface immediately presented him with four class slots.

"My class is 'Merchant' and it's at max level. Is it because of my background?" Nikos had many questions swirling in his mind, but no one to ask to.

There's a 'Class Shop' too. Does that mean I can buy a class with the system currency? A big grin appeared on Nikos's face at the possibility of having many different magical classes.

Lastly, he checked the 'Inventory' tab.

With infinite storage, stocking up on goods for sale won't be a problem. This must be one of the benefits of having a max-level merchant class.

After getting a surface glance at the system, Nikos closed it and looked up at the sky. "I need to start move before it getting dark," he decide as he began to walk away.

A moment later, not far from his previous spot, he found a small hill that was high enough to give him a better view. Far off in the distance, a small town could be seen if one squinted hard enough. Nikos also noticed a small path leading towards that town.

Without hesitation, Nikos continued his walk, following the path towards the small town.

After an hour or two on the road, Nikos's pace turn slowed as a sharp and sweet metallic scent hung in the air. This is the smell of blood.

Far ahead, it wasn't very clear what was happening to Nikos, but the shape looked like a caravan.

He quickly hid in some bushes by the side of the road. He observed the area from a distance and slowly moved forward through the bushes, while keeping his senses sharp for any danger.

When he got close enough, it was clear that it was a chaotic scene with medium-sized caravans, the carts and wagons broken and stained with blood.

On the ground, many bodies lay lifeless with large wounds and some disfigured parts. Meanwhile, the caravan was torn apart, but the goods inside appeared untouched. It's definitely not the work of bandits; it must have been monsters.

Nikos circled around the area, it took quite some time for him to finish since he check the area in stealthy manner.

He then walked out to examine the caravans. Blood trails marked the ground like a big strokes of a brush on a canvas.

Since the bodies haven't decayed, it means the attack happened recently. I need to gather all the goods and leave quickly before the monster come back.

Nikos moved to the caravans, gathering all the goods and placing them in his inventory.

He didn't inspect each item; he just shoved everything into his inventory. In one of the caravan wagons, Nikos spent a few more minutes inside before finally come out.

Nikos changed out of his modern attire into humble clothes that a peasant used to wear: a common brown tunic made of affordable linen. Yet, this simple outfit couldn't hide his striking features.

Nikos's tall and lean muscles could be seen lightly bulging under his clothes, and his blueish indigo hair looked elegant paired with his blue eyes.

After changing, he walked toward the body of a man wearing an expensive silk robe, now stained with blood. He should be the master of this caravan.

Nikos knelt near the body, searching for any usable items, and found a magic inventory bag and a coin pouch on the body.

Having finished his search, Nikos stood up and bowed his head slightly. "Thank you for the goods. I'll make sure to make the most out of it." he mumbled, paying his respect to the caravan master, "In the future, if I ever meet the monsters, I'll make sure to give them the revenge they deserve."

Nikos turned away, holding a large pouch full of gold coins in his palm. Looking through the pouch, Nikos solidified his resolve, accepting his new reality. "From now on, this is my new home."

"And in this world, I want to live a comfortable life and have the freedom to do whatever I like. To go on adventures, fight monsters, and get rich," he paused, smirking to himself, "Well, maybe dominate the world on the side, just a little bit." with a carefree shrug, he walked away, no longer caring about his past life.
