"Well, number two is easy. It's just asking about the atomic theory." He shrugs, looking at me for an answer.
My brain froze and not one thought
assed through, "Oh, um, yeah. Isn't it
like, that theory, you know the one
about, uh-"
"A theory that Darwin proposed," He said in the kindest way.
"Oh, duh. Haha, yeah, you're good at
this" I said nervously. Oh no, why did |
say that?! Now I probably sound
desperate.
"Thanks. Ready for the next one?" He
offered.
I nod my head eagerly. He's so
charming, and it's starting to get
really hard for me to actually pay
attention to the work. I couldn't stop
starting at his lips moving. They look
so soft, gentle, and warm and his
hazel green eyes are mesmerizing!
I feel pretty stupid sitting next to him
and getting half- or most, okay all- the
questions wrong. Jace knows
Chemistry like it's a sixth sense! It came
So naturally and easy to him, unlike
me. To me, it sounded like a foreign
language. Surprisingly, we finished it
really quickly- well quicker than I
would have finished it even though
there were only ten problems.
But by the time we were done with homework. I hadn't bothered to continue with my other homework because Jace
was still talking to me! (Not that I had a problem with it, no, not one bit!) Kas jogged over to us half way through a story
Jace was telling me, I almost
forgot that we were at a football field.
"And then the whole kitchen caught on fire! All over the counter, the stove, the floor. I
swore to myself that that was going
to be the last time l cook." Jace
concluded, shaking his head.
I laughed so hard that my sides
started to hurt. Who in their right
mind would put a pot of soup on the gas for two hours without checking on it once?
That's a first I've ever heard. My laugh
was uncontrollable. "Oh my God,
that's hilarious! What did-
AAAHHHH!!"
I was suddenly lifted from the
bleachers and being spun around in
rapid circles. My hair was flying all
around my face, and I was up high off
the ground. "AAAHHH PUT ME
DOWN!" I screamed.I heard the
familiar laugh that I've been hearing
for the past eleven years cover my
epic screaming. "Kas, you bitch!" I screamed over his laugh. "This isn't funny, dumbass! Put me down! And you smell too!"
Now I couldn't help but laugh slightly as he
laughed even harder. Oh my god, I
think I'm going to be sick..
Too....dizzy.
Asher finally set me down on my two
feet, but it's useless because I totally
lost all balance, falling on my ass on
the hard, moist, gushy grass. If this is
payback for dropping that textbook
on his foot then I'm so going to get
him back. This is war buddy.
"Haha whos laughing now!" Kas
teased.
He took one step closer to only fall to
the ground next to me, probably
forgetting that he was spinning
around too. I laugh at his face
pointing, "Apparently me now!"
l corrected.
After both of us got our balances
back, and stopped seeing three of
everything upside down, Jace helps
me up, pulling me too close to his
chest. "Why is Jace hanging out
with you?" he asked quietly, directing
with his eyes.
I blushed, smiling wildly, and then
saw that he was still there watching.
"Oh! Jace." I said walking back to
him.
"Hey- Whoa don't get too close in
case you puke, He joked, making an
X with his fingers.
I laughed pushing his- warm but
rough- hands away. "I'm fine, silly. I
was just going to say thanks for
helping me with homework."'
"Anytime," he said, showing me his
100% perfect sexy smile.
"Hey, you ready to go?" Kas
interrupted, slinging his arm over my
shoulder and kissing my temple.
"I'll see you around, Ari" Jace
waved, walking away. If it isn't too
noticeable already, I could see he
looks uncomfortable with Kas around
me, practically flirting his ass off. The
kid will do anything to keep a guy
away from me.
"Bye! Yeah see ya- oh and thanks for
the help!" I waved anxiously. Didn't I
already say thanks?
I looked over to Kas with a scowl which could probably kill a horse.
How dare he ruin moment with my
Jace! He practically scared him
off! He smirked at Jace walking
away. Then, he looks at my face and
he drops his smirk as I caught him
guilty.
"What?" He asks innocently.
| shook my head, picking up all my
books and stuffing them into my bag.
"Ready to leave?" I asked sourly,
making a face. I couldn't believe he'd
do this. I'm sure he's well aware that |
have a crush on Jace. It's not like
hold back and it's not like Kas is just too
stupid to notice it.
"What did I do wrong this time? And
what do you mean by 'thanks for
help?"
He asks a bit annoyed,
crossing his arms.
'Nothing, Kas, because you never do anything wrong," I said sarcastically,
rolling my eyes.
"Good. I didn't think so. Now
what 'help' did he give you?" I swear,
sometimes I think he ignores my
sarcasm just to annoy me.
"He helped me with my chemistry
homework" I said as we walked to his
car.
"Why did he help? I usually help you
with homework!" He said, sounding
defensive.
I did notice that he looked a bit sad
he drove away from the school. He
would always claim that it was
his "duty" to help me in physics and chemistry. I think that it's always an excuse to stay out of his house with his younger
twin sisters. Though he loves them
deeply, Kas is too much of a male to
play with dolls and color.
I sighed deeply, feeling sorry, but not
too sorry. I'm really happy that I had a
moment with Jace. But I know that
most times, Kas is excited to help
me with science. Maybe it was
because it's the only subject I suck
and he didn't. "I'm sorry. Jacewas
there and he offered to help. I didn't
know this is such a big deal to you" I
explained to Kas.
"Forget it. I don't care, one less thing
for me to do' He mumbled to himself,
angrily.
He parked his car on the curb in front
of my house, letting the engine run. I
collected my stuff and opened the
door, turning back to look at him
before I got out of the car.
"You coming in?" I asked, with a pleading
smile. He always came in no matter
what time of the day it was, usually to
wipe out the food in my house
or "help" him do his homework.
"Nah," he said, anger
clouding his voice despite him trying to sound nonchalant.
"Someone's on their period," I muttered
softly, but only loud enough for him to
hear. I saw his lips hold back a smile
as he stared at the open road ahead.
"Come on... You know you want to
come in. I'll make your favorite..." I
persuaded, kissing his cheek as I got
out of the car. I knew now that he was
like sand in my hands.
This is one of the things I love about
Kas. No matter how angry he may
seem, he always forgives me quickly.
Even if he's pissed at the world, he
always seems to smile when I'm
around. Or whenever I
mention making his favorite dessert,
it's like its Christmas Day.
"Chocolate and peanut butter chip
fudge brownies?!" He snapped,
turning his head to me.
"Yep~" I sang as I
walked away. And in 5...4…3...2...1-
"I mean, I guess I can come in for a few
minutes" He said, cutting the engine,
hopping out of the car, coming up
beh
ind me and pushing me quicker to
the door.
I laugh, walking inside and throwing
my stuff down before rushing to the
kitchen to make Kas's brownies so
we can have them while we do our
homework. Correction:
while I do both of our assignments.
