Chapter 5 - The King's passing and the quest for a new ruler.

Years turned into decades, and the anticipation for the child's arrival never wavered. However, fate had other plans. King Arin II, who had dedicated his life to preparing his kingdom for the child's arrival, grew old and frail. His health began to decline, and his people feared the worst.

One fateful day, the king's condition took a turn for the worse. His cabinet members, Lord Ravenswood, Lady Nightshade, and Lord Stormwind, gathered around his bedside, their faces etched with concern.

"Your Majesty, we must discuss the future of the kingdom," Lord Ravenswood said, his voice laced with urgency.

The king's eyes fluttered open, his gaze weak but determined. "I know my time is near, my friends. But I have faith that the child will come. Do not give up hope."

Lady Nightshade's eyes moistened. "We will not, Your Majesty. But we must also consider the succession of the throne. You have no heirs, and the kingdom needs a ruler."

The king's gaze drifted to the ceiling, his mind racing with the weight of his decision. "I have chosen a successor, one who will honor my legacy and await the child's arrival. Lord Stormwind, I entrust you with the task of finding the next king."

Lord Stormwind's eyes widened in surprise. "Me, Your Majesty? Why not Lord Ravenswood or Lady Nightshade?"

The king's smile was faint but resolute. "You, Lord Stormwind, have the heart of a warrior and the wisdom of a leader. I have faith in you."

With those final words, King Arin II closed his eyes, his chest still. The whole kingdom including cabinet members mourned the loss of their beloved king, but they knew they had to act swiftly to ensure the kingdom's stability.

Lord Stormwind, with a heavy heart, set out on a journey to find the next ruler of Eridoria. He traveled far and wide, seeking a worthy successor, while Lady Nightshade and Lord Ravenswood remained in the kingdom, maintaining order and keeping the people's spirits high.

The search was long and arduous, but Lord Stormwind refused to give up. He met with various candidates, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, but none seemed quite right. The weight of the king's legacy and the prophecy of the child weighed heavily on his shoulders.

One day, while visiting a distant clan, Lord Stormwind stumbled upon a young man with an extraordinary aura. His name was Erian, and he possessed a unique combination of courage, wisdom, and compassion. Lord Stormwind's instincts told him that this was the one, the next king of Eridoria.

But, as he delved deeper into Erian's past, he discovered a shocking truth. Erian was not of royal blood, and his claim to the throne would be controversial. Lord Stormwind was torn between his duty to the kingdom and his belief in Erian's potential.

The fate of Eridoria hung in the balance, as Lord Stormwind struggled with the decision that would shape the kingdom's future. Would he choose the unconventional Erian, or would he opt for a more traditional candidate? The people of Eridoria waited with bated breath, their hopes and fears intertwined with the destiny of their beloved kingdom.

Lord Stormwind's eyes locked onto the young man, his mind racing with the possibilities. "You, my friend, are the one I've been searching for. Your family, they didn't survive the Gods' War, did they?"

The young man's eyes dropped, his voice barely audible. "No, they didn't. I was just a boy, hiding in the ruins of our home, watching as the gods' powers destroyed everything around me."

Lord Stormwind's expression turned solemn. "I'm so sorry, lad. I can only imagine the horrors you've faced. But, I must know, what's your name?"

The young man hesitated, his eyes darting around the market. "Erian, but the surname I...I don't know. I've forgotten. I've been on my own for so long, I've lost everything, including my name, I only remembered Erian because my clan leader fondly call me by that name, whether it's my real name or a nickname, that I know nothing about."

Lord Stormwind's gaze never wavered. "No matter, lad. Your name is not important right now. What's important is the fire in your eyes, the determination in your voice. I've been searching for a worthy successor to the throne, and I believe you may be the one."

The young man's eyes widened in disbelief. "Me? A king? You must be mistaken."

Lord Stormwind smiled. "I'm not mistaken, lad. I've been watching you for weeks, seeing the way you interact with people, the way you carry yourself with grace and humility. You have the heart of a true leader."

The young man shook his head, his eyes clouding with doubt. "I don't know, sir. I'm not sure I'm ready for this."

Lord Stormwind's expression turned persuasive. "Lad, I've seen the signs. The way the sunlight reflects off your hair, the shape of your eyes, the strength in your jawline. You have the markings of a true king. And I've seen the way you move, with the grace of a warrior and the compassion of a healer. You are the one I've been searching for."

The young man's eyes searched Lord Stormwind's face, seeking answers. "But, how can you be so sure? I'm just a nobody, a survivor of the war."

Lord Stormwind's smile grew wider. "That's exactly why you're the perfect candidate, lad. All the people of the land are survivors of the land except the children, you see, you're not tainted by the politics of the court, you're not bound by the traditional expectations of royalty. You're a blank slate, waiting to be molded into a great leader."

It took Lord Stormwind weeks to convince the young man to come with him to the palace. He had to use all his persuasive powers, all his knowledge of the ancient signs and markings, to convince him that he was the chosen one. Finally, after months of searching, Lord Stormwind had found the worthy successor to the throne.

As they journeyed to the palace, Lord Stormwind told the young man about the kingdom's history, the prophecy of the child, and King Arin's legacy. The young man listened intently, his mind reeling with the implications.

Upon their arrival, the royal cabinet received them with a mix of curiosity and skepticism. Lord Stormwind presented the young man, his eyes shining with conviction. "This is the one, my friends. This is the worthy successor to the throne."

Lady Nightshade's eyes narrowed, her voice laced with doubt. "Lord Stormwind, are you certain this is the right course of action? We know nothing about this young man."

Lord Stormwind stood tall, his conviction unwavering. "I am certain, Lady Nightshade. This young man has the markings of a true king. He has the heart of a warrior, the compassion of a healer, and the wisdom of a sage."

The cabinet members exchanged skeptical glances, but Lord Stormwind's belief in the young man remained unshaken. He knew that he had found the rightful king, and he would stop at nothing to ensure his rightful place on the throne.
