Dune and the others finished their meal, and Dune found himself wandering to the expansive terrace.
The moon hung low and large in the sky, casting a silvery glow over the city of Rendely. The sight was breathtaking, yet it only deepened his sense of alienation.
"Do they find this lifestyle enjoyable?" he wondered. "None of them are real… everyone trying their best to seem nice. It's so fake, it's disgusting. None of them are actually free or happy."
"Stupid ceremony," he muttered under his breath.
"I agree," came a voice from behind him. Dune turned to see Melisa standing there.
"Oh, what are you doing here, Melisa?" he asked.
"It's boring… I miss Fein. I don't have friends here, and my mom and dad are always busy. "
Dune sighed. "I think it's time to give you your gift. What do you think?"
Melisa's eyes sparkled with excitement. "What is it, Dune? A kitty?"
