"Aeris mentioned you haven't shifted into your mermaid form in a while," Avena said, approaching Anastasia.
When had she shared that? Anastasia racked her brain but didn't recall ever discussing her inability to shift with her sister. Maybe the words had slipped out subconsciously, she thought.
"Yes," Anastasia nodded. "It's been a struggle these past months."
"Well, I can help you shift with magic."
"You can?"
Avena nodded. "But you also need to use your mind to ease the process."
"Well then, what are we waiting for?"
"I am not familiar with this village, so I don't know where the nearest river is," Avena said.
"I know of one," Anastasia said. "Come with me."
They entered a carriage and rode outside the gates to the ocean. The thought of shifting for the first time in a year made Anastasia nervous. The only comfort was the chance to see Nerina. But what if shifting affects the baby?
