Active quest? How do I start one, and how do I complete it? My head is full of questions, but that can wait—I have a problem to solve first. I closed my status screen and turned to face her.

"Uh-umm, thank you for saving me," she said, speaking up and giving a slight bow.

"Thank your brother for seeking help. I simply did what was requested," I replied, my expression unchanged. I have to keep this short until I figure out these new system features to avoid any more surprises.

Her little brother had calmed down and returned to his usual behavior, wearing a smug expression, clearly proud of his actions.

Bitch, Wipe that smug look off your face. Do you even understand what you've done? Maybe I should've ignored you. Maybe this little kid is actually the Japanese Batman, and his sister getting harassed was his cannon event story.

Hahh, My mind's running wild. I shut my eyes briefly to gather my thoughts before turning back to her.

"That's not true at all. A boy our age, wearing the same uniform as you, saw me in trouble before you arrived. I asked him to call for help, but he just stood there for a while and then took off. My point is, not everyone helps others without a valid reason."

"I see," that dickless motherfucker. So he did see Akari Rei getting harassed, but he decided to ignore her this time. By choosing option B, he left her stranded, and I ended up getting involved instead.

"Anyway, I'm Akari Rei, and this is my little brother. My father owns a bookstore about two blocks from here," she said, tucking her hair behind her ear and smiling brightly.

"I see. Good for you."

.  .  .

Why did the scene suddenly become awkward? Is she waiting for me to introduce myself in return?

Bitch, the plot is already messed up as it is, and I still don't know who's going to kill me. But I do know when they'll act in the original plot, so I'd prefer if you didn't change things any further. It might mess up the timeline too.

In times like this, I can rely on the prideful persona I crafted for tough situations to help me navigate out of such a mess.

"If that's all, I'll be on my way," I said, turning around without waiting for a response.

"Oh, uh, thank you for your help, and have a safe trip home," both bowing once more.

_______

"Hey Souma, is there something on my face, or do I look weird?" Akari asked her brother once Eric was out of sight. Souma shook his head in response, prompting her to sigh with relief.

Although I'm very happy that he came to my rescue, maybe the compliment about being called a beauty is getting to my head, but he doesn't seem interested in me at all. It's almost like he found our conversation boring, Akari pondered silently.

Any other guy from our school would jump at the chance to chat with me, but he didn't even bother to introduce himself. And that otherworldly handsomeness, paired with his arrogant demeanor and commanding voice, strangely stirs something deep within me, igniting a heat in the pit below my stomach.

I'm certain we attend the same school, but it's my first time seeing him. Perhaps he's a transfer student. Maybe I can check out the other classes and at least find out his name.

I've never felt anything like love before, but this feels like fate—a love at first sight moment with my shining prince charming, meant just for me. And me ONLY

"Sis, you're smiling weirdly. Is something wrong?" Souma asked, looking concerned.

"Oh, was I? I didn't notice. I was just lost in happy thoughts," Akari replied.

"Really, like what?"

"Hmm, something about getting you a big brother," Akari replied, her smile innocent as she gazed into the distance.

*Achoo*

Ugh, someone's definitely talking behind my back.

Luckily, I caught the last bus just in time and got home without any more issues. Mom gave me an earful about not changing plans without notice, saying Dad was worried and even called the teachers to check if I stayed back.

Although I felt guilty, at the time I thought it would help me avoid interaction with the main cast, but that backfired. If I had known this would happen, I would've taken my chances with the first bus. But there's no point in regretting what's already been done.

Having just finished my bath, I am now sitting on my new, spacious, decorated bed. Not much happened today, except for my interaction with one of the heroines, which led to all this.

[ ANTAGONIST SYSTEM

ACTIVE QUEST: 1/5

AKARI REI: 28%

COMPLETED QUEST: 0/5

Tips: Use rewards carefully to increase chance of survival]

Does this mean the heroines are considered quests? And why is Akari at 28% after just one interaction? Is this a bug?

Also, what do you mean by using rewards carefully to increase the chance of survival, as if I'm going to fight a mythical beast?

[Unable to answer this question due to level restriction

System needs to be upgraded in order to access more features]

Then how do i do that?

[Unable to ans....

Shut up and close system, You're nothing like what I expected from an Isekai system—way more useless.

In the end, I learned nothing about my unknown killer or the meaning of the quest.I suppose I'll have to figure it out on my own, but first, I need some rest. I'm mentally exhausted, so as soon as I finish dinner, I'm heading straight to bed. That's enough research for today.
