Dharen looked at his friend's face carefully, curious about what he would even want to ask.
"So, are you and Renna a thing or are you close friends or what? I can not tell what is going on between you at all."
Dharen, nearly tripping at his friend's words, looked him dead in the eye, trying to see if there was some kind of joke that was hiding in the words of his friend or if he was really asking a serious question that he had.
Not seeing anything, he did not really know what to think, or why he had been asked this question at all. Just because he spent every evening with her, it did not mean that much, not really. At least that is what he thought, but he had missed something completely and that being that this what not Earth, in this world everything was different and things like what was happening between him and Renna was not normal at all.
"No, me and her are not things, I doubt we could ever be such a thing. It is not like-" Before he could finish speaking however they both were silenced by a loud yell.
"There he is! There is the Dragon-Kin, the one who disrespected me!" They both had heard the voice of what sounded like Percy, and looking behind themselves, they saw Percy with a group of older men, each who wore armour under white robes. In their hands were an assortment of weapons.
Next to Dharen, Jason muttered. "Oh Gods."
Dharen, not looking away from the group in the distance, asked him, "What is wrong?"
Jason who now was starting to move away from the group in the distance merely said, "The Inquisition of the Church of Light. I do not know how they got inside but you have to ru-"
He soon was cut off by a much older, colder voice.
"Dragon-Kin come here and I will allow you to repent your false Gods before you go and meet the one true saviour."
Dharen, looking away from Jason, had found that the people from the Inquisition were already getting closer to him. Their attention completely focused on him. Anyone in their path were simply chucked aside like rag dolls.
Seeing how one or two of their bodies ended up hitting the wall, he could not help but wince. That would hurt a lot, but at how they were coming for him. He started to realise that his ending if he stayed here would not be so gentle, if that could even be called gentle to start with.
Quickly, he turned around and caught Jason's eye. To his dismay his friend softly shook his head and darted off in a different direction leaving him alone.
Seeing this, he did not know how to feel. But that did not matter at all right now.
As an arrow narrowly whizzed past his head he finally started to move.
"How dare you run from the grace of our Lord! Come and offer your life in repent!"
He could hear the loud cursing and yelling of the inquisitors as he ran as quickly as he could, the yelling was soon accompanied by the clanking of metal as the inquisitors themselves ran to catch up to him, constantly yelling at him to stop and die.
Dharen had no intention of doing that as well, he was not some kind of religious fanatic and he most definitely was ot tired of living his life.
Darting in and out of buildings, he was forced to constantly avoid arrows as they rushed around him, each one getting closer and closer to hitting him in the back.
This last one though as it whooshed by, he watched in horror as it embedded itself completely into the chest of a girl as she exited her class, not knowing at all what was going on.
She did not even scream out as her body snapped back and hit the floor with a thud, then he was gone, unable to stop. He could not hope to be able to fight them, not without any kind of weapon. He would be more than hopeless against them.
Then three more arrows passed by his left side, thumping into the wall that was now in front of him hard. He had found himself at a junction, looking left then right he did not really know where to go next.
But hearing the sudden slicing of air behind him, was all it took for him to make up his mind as he leaped to the left, all but avoiding the arrows the impaled themselves into the place where he had been only moments before.
Looking down though, as he grimaced in pain, he found that he had not been so lucky this time, one of the arrows had grazed his leg, leaving a cut in its path.
He started to move again as the inquisitors took the corner with their weapons raised. Dharen was too close to them now, and in his horror he found that he could not move that quick anymore.
Looking down at his leg once more, he found the wound starting to turn a light purple colour.
"Venom huh." He muttered to himself, as he still kept on scrambling to try to get away. He hoped inside somewhere, that there would be someone trying to help him. This was still the academy, surely someone would help him and stop these people from trying to kill him.
"Dharen!" A loud scream echoed down the hallway, drawing everyone's eyes to its source.
Seeing Renna, sword in hand he could not have felt happier, at least until he heard an inquisitor say, "Another one. How beautiful, I wonder how she will cope later at night, as she's turned into a torch."
His blood ran cold as the image reached his mind.
Then he stood up fully and slowly turned to face the inquisitors. He was angry now, very angry. He would not see someone he cared about be hurt. That was different, he would not see it happen.
Then like what had happened in the mid semester exam, everything slowed around him. But he swore he would not black out again. He would protect her, Renna would not be harmed because she mattered, because he…Well he knew how he felt.
And with a blood curdling scream, he charged!
