Chapter 1 - Prologue

When Devon woke up, he found himself in a room full of high-tech equipment some of which looked like surgical machines he had seen in a hospital. however, given the sophistication of the equipment that he was seeing and the many men and women wearing hazmat suits manning different apparatus, it was clear that this was a lab of some kind. This situation was baffling because all he could remember was that he was leading a special ops team in the Arabia dessert. Their objective was to secure and take away some strange materials that had been found at the bottom of an oil well. The story he was told was that there when oil drilling equipment was siphoning oil at the bottom of the well, they found that there was a unique structure and after some tests it was discovered that there was a small dome under there. the strange thing was that there was a crystal floating in the middle of the room and a mass of white fluid. When Devon and his team arrived, they found the place heavily guarded. however, given their many years of experience. the whole operation was a walk in the park; there is nothing that could deter them from achieving their objective. However, this time their faced a situation that can only be described as the arcane. As their team got closer to their objective, the clouds in the skies started churning, while thunder and lightning reverberated across the skies. If there were gods in the skies, then this situation could be described as the gods were raging. Lighting started targeting their position as a windy tempest was hurled their way. Devon was for the first time frightened. He had always thought that all the tales he had heard of the supernatural were merely tales, yet the current situation did not have any other logical explanation. The soldiers guarding the tent where the casket containing the object were all dead. Within the tent there was a massive ruckus as something was fighting to get out of the casket. At the same time, a multicolored light swirled within the tent and as Devon got closer, the casket vibrations become more intense and then it could no longer withstand the force from within. The casket exploded and a multicolored crystal rushed towards Devon and disappeared into his head. Surprisingly, it did not cause any injury or even break a hair on his head. Devon though what he was seeing was an illusion and looked at his comrades to confirm that he was not hallucinating. Suddenly, another casket exploded; however, this time, the contents did not get thrown all over. Instead, there was only a single container that was tightly sealed, yet despite this, the fluid within was leaking a sieve. Devon got another jolt when he saw that the liquid did not fall on the ground, instead it floated in the air and then just like the crystal, it hurled itself at Devon with extreme speed. Just like the previous occurrence, the fluid disappeared the moment it touched Devon. At this time, Devon thought that he as dead for sure. There was no coming back from this situation as not matter how he looked at it; he did not have an answer for his superiors. While Devon was thinking what to do next, a shot rang out from behind and his chest exploded. With difficulty, Devon turned around only to see his lieutenant looking at him with disdain and proceeded to blow his gun. The other team members were looking on without saying anything or taking action. All Devon could think of before darkness engulfed his consciousness was, "are this still the same people I have fought and bled alongside for more than a decade?".

As Devon's vision got acclimated to the situation around him, he recalled the past events before he got shot. He knew from the fact that a shot was fired from the back and exploded his chest at the front, he must have died. Yet here he was in some sort of laboratory. What Devon did not know was that though his heart and innards were blown out, he did not die, but lost consciousness. Under normal circumstances he would be dead, yet for some strange reason, his brain function were protected by a strange cyan light and the failure of the heart to pump oxygenated blood to the brain did not have any effect on it. His killer and teammates did not know this and when they brought his supposed corpse to this facility, they thought he was dead and the only value he had was that he was a carrier of an object that the government had gone to extreme lengths to get.

What Devon and his would-be killers did not know was that the moment the multicolored crystal broke out of the casket, a unique and silent pressure was emitted and while there were no creatures on this planet that could detect it, there were others in vaster and darker places within and beyond the universe that were jolted awake. One of those beings that detected the crystal existed outside the universe, in one of the most feared and forbidden abyss in the chaos. The being usually slept most of the time and very few things could make it wake, yet this time, it was wide awake. One could say that the moment this being woke up and opened its eyes, it was a bit anxious and quickly located the source of that unique and unforgettable pressure. Since this was a creature that was hidden in a dark abyss, it was difficult to make out its shape or size, the only thing that showed its existence was the massive eyes that looked like twin suns in the sky. The moment that the crystal entered Devon's body, its signals and pressure were lost again, yet at this time, many hidden beings and creatures had located this planet. Those that had experience chasing this particular crystal did not make rush movements because unless they could pinpoint its exact location, any action would be futile. The creature in the abyss outside the universe knew this and had waited here for millions of years. Given its size and power, the universe was not threat to it, yet around it in the chaos, there were numerous multidimensional universes and knowing which one to attack was difficult without a clear signal. Moreover, the chaos laws would annihilate any being that went about destroying universes. Destroying one or two might not attract backlash, but when more than this were destroyed it would attract the chaos laws. What most beings outside the universe chose to do was to create avatars and send them into the universe or directly control the most powerful creatures within to do their bidding.

Though the signal was lost, it resurfaced once again when Devon woke up and started observing what was going on around him. The crystal somewhere in his head was actively trying to keep his alive, though by default he should be dead. Once the signal was discovered, the being in the abyss outside the universe detected it immediately and took action. It easily tore the universe membrane with little resistance and since it size and power could easily destroy the universe, it manifested a huge claw that tore the space-time within the universe. At this time, the world was going on about its business unaware of the impending doom. All of a sudden crack appeared outside the planet and a huge claw emerged from within. Clearly, its intention was to grab the entire planet and take it out. However, there were also other beings interested in the crystal and while the owner of this huge claw was outside the universe, another being lived within this universe and had been hiding here for millions of years, silently growing its power and acclimating to the rule of the universe. At this time, this was its backyard and could not allow someone from the outside to take something that in its view belonged to it. And so, from the center of the universe a huge palm covered in stars and cosmic winds manifested, slapping away the claw that was trying to pull the planet into the space-time crack. The effect of this action can only be imagined. The planet could not withstand such a powerful collision and was immediately annihilated. All the creatures within the planet did not know how they died, neither did they feel it. One moment there saw the skies split apart and then next it was total darkness for them. As for Devon, the moment the space-time crack appeared, the crystal vibrated emitting crimson color, a powerful force emerged from it sucked all his blood including the white fluid which had positioned itself in his heart. All of it including his soul was sucked within it and what else remained of his was pulverized in a second. As the claw in the space-time crack attempted to grab the planet, the crystal vibrated vigorously, and a small space-crack emerged in the lab. The crystal rushed and disappeared into it as it continued to break boundaries within the space until it reached the Dark Void. Here nothing existed, only darkness and silence abound; as they crystal floated in the nothingness, it become silent and changed its color to pitch black, slowly blending with the dark void. As for what happened after the crystal disappeared, well that entire universe no longer exists.
