As Alex and Mark walked briskly back to their car, Alex glanced at Mark."Poor kid" he said, shaking his head.
"Yeah," Mark agreed, unlocking the car. " Poor kid, would not wish this to anyone let alone a child. Let's hope he recovers from this trauma. We should send this to the office in order to put up that sketch for the public to see".
Alex slid into the passenger seat and pulled out the sketch of the suspect.
"You know, I'm not sure about releasing this sketch to the media."
Mark started the car and looked over at Alex. "Why's that? It will make things much easier."
"Think about it," Alex said, leaning back in his seat. "The sketch is based on the account of a kid with insomnia who was half-asleep in the middle of the night. I am not saying I don't trust him, however it is risky . There's a high chance it's not entirely accurate. If we put it out there and it's wrong, we could be chasing false leads, and the killer could get spooked and go underground. Or worse sent another message to us. In the meanwhile he continues his kills."
Mark nodded slowly, considering Alex's point. "You've got a point there ,we can't risk it. Dispite that, what else can we do to catch the killer?"
Alex stayed silent as Mark started driving the car. "We need to be careful with how we handle this. We can share the sketch with other law enforcement agencies and use it internally, but broadcasting it to the public might do more harm than good."
"Alright, let's head back to the station and start analyzing the blood samples and other evidence. We can't even review any security camera footage from around the crime scene. " Mark said.
Alex looked at him confused.
"Why can't we?"
"There are no security cameras in the area, that's why."
"You can't be serious." Said Alex while his gaze was stiffened in the horizon.
"I'm totally serious. The residents of the neighborhood do not have any security cameras because it is a very friendly neighborhood." Said Mark who glanced at Alex to see his reaction wjo wastaken aback by what he learnt,he stopped smiling then he yelled.
"FOR FUCKS SAKE. DAMN IT." He calmed himself enough to continue. "How we going to catch the killer now?"
Mark understood his frustration and felt sorry for his friend.
"Don't worry",Mark reassured him. "It was going to be difficult anyways, it's not like we would catch him at the spot with the camera footage. It's just going to be more challenging now."
Alex nodded. Then smiled at Mark reassuring his ok.
"Hope you're right you bastard".
Both started laughing lightening the mood they were in,as they drove back to the station, the city's early morning hustle and bustle started to pick up. Alex stared out the window, his mind replaying Tommy's account of the killer. There was something chilling about the way the boy described the encounter, and it left Alex with a sense of urgency. The weight of the case settled heavily on his shoulders, but he knew they had to stay focused and methodical to catch the murderer.
